Screwfix’s refund policy
Screwfix operates a 30-day money back guarantee that is more generous than the 14-day legal minimum for distance sales. To cancel, notify Screwfix within 30 days of delivery or collection and return the goods promptly, unused and in saleable condition with all parts and packaging. Faulty goods can be rejected for a full refund within 30 days, with rights continuing beyond that period. Some items, cut/mixed/made-to-measure goods, opened boilers, macerators and water pumps, are excluded.
“8.1 You may cancel your order and return the items purchased to us by giving us notice of cancellation within 30 days of the date of delivery to you or your collection from a trade counter (as applicable).”

Does Screwfix charge a cancellation fee?
We found no cancellation fee in Screwfix’s published terms. On a rolling plan you simply pay to the end of the current billing period and nothing after. If you’re inside a fixed minimum term, check your signup email for the end date, cancelling early is where fees usually hide. If you signed up online within the last 14 days, the Consumer Contracts Regulations give you a cooling-off right to walk away, fee-free, for most digital subscriptions.
What doesn’t work for cancelling Screwfix
Based on 6 sources, Reddit, app reviews, and direct testing. Skip these and save yourself the loop.
- ✕ Cancelling a paid recurring subscription, Screwfix is a retailer with no paid membership; there is no recurring plan to cancel, only individual orders and returns.
- ✕ Returning used tools under the change-of-mind guarantee, Non-faulty items must be unused and in saleable condition; customers report the guarantee won't cover a tool once it has been used (only faulty-goods rules apply then).
- ✕ Returning made-to-order or excluded items, Cut, mixed or made-to-measure goods, opened boilers, macerators and water pumps are excluded from the 30-day return policy.
- ✕ In-store return of supplier-direct items, Products delivered directly by an approved supplier can't be returned to a store; you must call to arrange a supplier collection and some collections may incur a charge.
Cancelled Screwfix but still being charged?
Three common reasons, in order of likelihood:
- The cancellation didn’t actually complete. If you never received a written confirmation from Screwfix, treat it as not cancelled. Email
online@screwfix.comreferencing your original request date and ask for written confirmation plus a refund of any charge taken since. - You cancelled in the wrong place. Subscriptions started through the App Store or Google Play bill through Apple or Google, cancelling on Screwfix’s site doesn’t touch them. Check Settings → Subscriptions on iPhone, or Play Store → Payments & subscriptions on Android.
- Billing lag. A charge that was already in flight when you cancelled can still land a few days later. One trailing charge can be normal; two is not.
If they keep charging after a confirmed cancellation, that’s chargeback territory: dispute the charge with your bank citing “subscription cancelled, merchant continued billing”. The yoink app also flags this automatically, it keeps watching your inbox after a confirmed cancellation and alerts you if Screwfix charges again.
How Screwfix will try to keep you
Screwfix may respond with a retention offer, a discount, a free month, or a downgrade to a cheaper tier. Don't engage with the counteroffer. Restate that you want a full cancellation and cite the consumer law again if they push back.
They’ll say: “Store staff refusing to acknowledge a fault or exchange, telling you an item isn't stocked”
You say: Politely insist the item is faulty or not as described and ask them to check the website stock in front of you. If they still refuse, email sos@screwfix.com for the attention of the Customer Resolution Team with your order number and visit date, Screwfix routinely escalates store disputes there.
They’ll say: “First-line customer service being slow or unresponsive on a refund”
You say: If your issue isn't resolved in the first instance, ask for a review, it is escalated to the Customer Resolutions Team, who respond within up to 28 working days. Keep your order reference and all prior correspondence attached.
They’ll say: “Being told a used tool can't be returned”
You say: Distinguish change-of-mind from faulty. If the tool is genuinely not fit for purpose, you retain your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act regardless of the 'unused' condition, ask staff to assess it under faulty-goods rules, not the 30-day guarantee.
They’ll say: “Click & Collect order you no longer want”
You say: Simply don't collect it, after 21 days the order is cancelled automatically and the value is credited or refunded. Or phone 03330 112 112 to cancel and request the refund directly.
Your rights when cancelling
The law where you live is the strongest hook, lead with it when you contact the company.
United Kingdom
- Consumer Contracts Regulations 201314-day cooling-off on new subscriptions.
You can terminate any continuous service contract within 14 days of starting it and recover any payment, no questions asked. Applies regardless of Screwfix’s own policy.
- Consumer Rights Act 2015Services must be as described.
If Screwfix’s service was misrepresented or didn’t deliver what was promised, you have a statutory right to remedy (repair, refund, or price reduction) regardless of their terms.
Worldwide
- Card-issuer chargebackYour bank can reverse the charge.
Visa, Mastercard, and Amex all run chargeback schemes, “goods/services not as described” or “subscription not cancelled” are valid reason codes everywhere they operate. Your bank handles the dispute; Screwfix has ~45 days to defend.
Rights in other regions (European Union)
European Union
- Consumer Rights Directive 2011/83/EU14-day right of withdrawal across all EU states.
EU-wide statutory right to withdraw from any distance-sold contract within 14 days. Mirrored into local law in every member state. Screwfix must honour it regardless of where they’re headquartered.
Delete your Screwfix account (not just cancel)
Cancelling stops the billing; deleting removes your account and personal data. Do them in that order, deleting an account with an active subscription can leave the billing running with no way to log in and stop it.
If there’s no delete option in Screwfix’s account settings, email online@screwfix.com with the subject Account deletion request, [your account email] and ask for your account and personal data to be erased under UK GDPR (Article 17, the right to erasure). They’re typically required to act on it, most companies complete erasure within about 30 days, and you should ask for written confirmation when it’s done.
