Cancellation Request, [your account email]Send this template
Hi DoorDash team, I'm writing to cancel the subscription on my account, [your account email]. I'm giving notice ahead of my next renewal date and expect no further charges from that date. Under the FTC's Click-to-Cancel rule, cancellation must be available through a channel as simple as the one I signed up through. Please confirm by reply that the subscription has been cancelled and that no further charges will be taken. Best, [your name]
Wait for confirmation
Wait 24 hours. If there's no response, send a polite one-line follow-up referencing the original request.
DoorDash plans you can cancel
- DashPass Monthly$9.99/mo
Cancel anytime via Account → Manage DashPass → Cancel Membership. Must cancel 24h before renewal to avoid the next charge. Benefits continue to end of billing cycle.
- DashPass Annual$96.00/yr
Same cancel path. No pro-rata refund by default; you keep benefits for the remainder of the year already paid.
- DashPass Student$4.99/mo
Same cancel flow as standard DashPass.
What happens to what you’ve already paid
DoorDash treats DashPass fees as effectively non-refundable once a billing period starts, you keep benefits until the cycle ends but don't get a partial refund. The one written exception is cancelling within 48 hours of your first subscription period with no DashPass-eligible order placed, in which case a refund is discretionary, not guaranteed. A separate pro-rata refund clause exists only if you cancel because you disagree with a change to the subscription terms. In practice, refunds are decided case-by-case, so cite an accidental renewal or unused benefits and keep your confirmation email as proof.
“For both monthly and annual subscribers, if you cancel your DashPass subscription within the first 48 hours of your first subscription period and have not placed a DashPass-eligible order during that period, DoorDash may, in its sole discretion, refund your DashPass fee.”

Does DoorDash charge a cancellation fee?
DoorDash’s terms mention conditions worth checking before you cancel, see the plan notes and policy quote above for the specifics we found. In general: rolling monthly plans end at the period you’ve already paid for with nothing extra to pay, while minimum-term or contract plans can carry an early-exit charge until the term ends.
What doesn’t work for cancelling DoorDash
Based on 2 sources, Reddit, app reviews, and direct testing. Skip these and save yourself the loop.
- ✕ Expecting an automatic refund just because you cancelled mid-cycle, DoorDash's default is no partial/pro-rata refund; benefits simply continue to the end of the paid period. Refunds are a separate request granted at sole discretion.
- ✕ Cancelling via the app when DashPass is a Chase/Mastercard/partner benefit, Partner-linked memberships often hide the cancel button; you must cancel through the credit-card benefit portal or wait for the benefit period to expire.
- ✕ Cancelling in the app when billed through Apple/Google Play, If you subscribed via an App Store or Google Play in-app purchase, DoorDash can't cancel it, you must cancel in the store's subscription settings.
- ✕ Relying on the app UI alone, The cancel/End Subscription button sometimes fails to appear due to a glitch; logging in via a desktop browser at doordash.com often surfaces the option.
- ✕ Arguing a renewal charge with a first-line chat/phone rep, Reps frequently quote the 'final and non-refundable / sole discretion' policy and decline; users report boilerplate 'not eligible for compensation' replies.
- ✕ Assuming cancelling deletes your data, Cancelling a paid subscription stops billing but your account data stays with DoorDash unless you separately request account deletion.
Cancelled DoorDash but still being charged?
Three common reasons, in order of likelihood:
- The cancellation didn’t actually complete. If you never received a written confirmation from DoorDash, treat it as not cancelled. Email
mxpsupport@doordash.comreferencing your original request date and ask for written confirmation plus a refund of any charge taken since. - You cancelled in the wrong place. Subscriptions started through the App Store or Google Play bill through Apple or Google, cancelling on DoorDash’s site doesn’t touch them. Check Settings → Subscriptions on iPhone, or Play Store → Payments & subscriptions on Android.
- Billing lag. A charge that was already in flight when you cancelled can still land a few days later. One trailing charge can be normal; two is not.
If they keep charging after a confirmed cancellation, that’s chargeback territory: dispute the charge with your bank citing “subscription cancelled, merchant continued billing”. The yoink app also flags this automatically, it keeps watching your inbox after a confirmed cancellation and alerts you if DoorDash charges again.
How DoorDash will try to keep you
DoorDash may respond with a retention offer, a discount, a free month, or a downgrade to a cheaper tier. Don't engage with the counteroffer. Restate that you want a full cancellation and cite the consumer law again if they push back.
They’ll say: “Forced 'pause instead of cancel' offer during the cancel flow”
You say: DoorDash pushes a Pause Membership option to keep you enrolled. Pausing does not stop your obligation cleanly, if you want out, complete Cancel Membership and confirm on the final screen, then verify the status flips from 'Next Billing Date' to 'Expires On'.
They’ll say: “Mandatory cancellation-reason gate”
You say: You can't proceed until you pick a reason. Select any reason to move forward, it doesn't affect your right to cancel.
They’ll say: “Multi-step confirmation with a final 'End/Cancel DashPass' click”
You say: Cancellation isn't complete until the last confirmation tap. Miss it and billing continues. Wait for the email confirming DashPass is cancelled and keep it as proof.
They’ll say: “Refund refusals citing 'sole discretion'”
You say: If chat denies a refund on an accidental renewal, be persistent and factual: state you cancelled before renewal / placed no eligible orders and reference the 48-hour terms clause. If still refused, escalate in writing to informal.resolution@doordash.com, then dispute the charge with your bank or card issuer as a fallback.
They’ll say: “Retention credits offered in lieu of a real refund”
You say: Reps may offer DoorDash credits instead of money back, note you can't choose when credits get applied. If you want cash back to your card, decline the credit and explicitly request a refund to the original payment method.
Your rights when cancelling
The law where you live is the strongest hook, lead with it when you contact the company.
United States
- FTC Click-to-Cancel Rule (2024+)Cancel must be as easy as sign-up.
The Federal Trade Commission’s Click-to-Cancel rule requires DoorDash to make cancelling at least as simple as signing up, same channel, same number of clicks. If they buried the cancel button or forced a phone call, they’re in violation; report to reportfraud.ftc.gov.
- California ARL (auto-renewal law)Renewal must be cancellable online.
California Business & Professions Code §17602 forces any company billing California residents on auto-renewal to provide an online cancel mechanism. Lawsuits have been won on this; companies often refund quickly when it’s cited.
Worldwide
- Card-issuer chargebackYour bank can reverse the charge.
Visa, Mastercard, and Amex all run chargeback schemes, “goods/services not as described” or “subscription not cancelled” are valid reason codes everywhere they operate. Your bank handles the dispute; DoorDash has ~45 days to defend.
Rights in other regions (United Kingdom, European Union)
United Kingdom
- Consumer Contracts Regulations 201314-day cooling-off on new subscriptions.
You can terminate any continuous service contract within 14 days of starting it and recover any payment, no questions asked. Applies regardless of DoorDash’s own policy.
- Consumer Rights Act 2015Services must be as described.
If DoorDash’s service was misrepresented or didn’t deliver what was promised, you have a statutory right to remedy (repair, refund, or price reduction) regardless of their terms.
European Union
- Consumer Rights Directive 2011/83/EU14-day right of withdrawal across all EU states.
EU-wide statutory right to withdraw from any distance-sold contract within 14 days. Mirrored into local law in every member state. DoorDash must honour it regardless of where they’re headquartered.
Delete your DoorDash account (not just cancel)
Cancelling stops the billing; deleting removes your account and personal data. Do them in that order, deleting an account with an active subscription can leave the billing running with no way to log in and stop it.
If there’s no delete option in DoorDash’s account settings, email mxpsupport@doordash.com with the subject Account deletion request, [your account email] and ask for your account and personal data to be erased under state privacy laws such as the CCPA. They’re typically required to act on it, most companies complete erasure within about 30 days, and you should ask for written confirmation when it’s done.
Common questions about cancelling DoorDash
Open the DoorDash app or **doordash.com**, tap your **Account** icon → **Manage DashPass** → **Cancel Membership**, pick a reason, then confirm on the final screen. It takes about two minutes. To avoid the next charge, cancel **at least 24 hours before** your renewal date. You'll get a confirmation email, save it. If the cancel button is missing, you likely subscribed via Apple/Google Play or a credit-card partner and must cancel there instead.
Money-back questions (windows, pro-rata, chargebacks) are covered in the DoorDash refund guide. Need a human for something else entirely? The DoorDash contact guide lists every channel that actually answers.
