Cancellation Request — [your account email]Send this template
Hi Claude by Anthropic team, I'm writing to request the immediate cancellation of my subscription tied to this account, effective today. Under applicable consumer-protection law (UK Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, EU Directive 2011/83/EU, or the FTC's Click-to-Cancel rule depending on your jurisdiction), I'm entitled to terminate this continuous service contract through the same channel it was formed in — please confirm by reply that no further charges will be made. If your policy permits, I'd also appreciate a pro-rata refund for any unused portion of the current billing period. Best, [your name]

Claude by Anthropic’s refund policy
Anthropic treats Claude subscription payments as non-refundable by default — they generally won't prorate a partial month. The exception is EU/UK users, who may receive a refund within 14 days of purchase under regional consumer law. To request, log in, click your initials (lower-left), choose 'Get help' → 'Send us a message' → 'Claude Refund Request'. Subscriptions billed through Apple or Google must be refunded by Apple or Google, not Anthropic.
“Important: Except as expressly provided in our Consumer Terms of Service or where required by law, all payments are non-refundable.”

What doesn’t work for cancelling Claude by Anthropic
Based on 2 sources — Reddit, app reviews, and direct testing. Skip these and save yourself the loop.
- ✕ Deleting the Claude app from your phone — Uninstalling does not stop billing; the subscription continues to charge until you cancel through Apple or Google.
- ✕ Cancelling on claude.ai when you subscribed via iOS or Android — Anthropic's website won't show App Store / Play Store subscriptions — you have to cancel through the original billing platform.
- ✕ Deleting your account before cancelling — Anthropic requires you to cancel your Pro/Max subscription and wait until the period ends before account deletion is allowed.
- ✕ Asking Anthropic to refund an App Store charge — Anthropic doesn't process Apple IAP payments; refund requests must go to Apple Support.
- ✕ Expecting an automatic prorated refund mid-cycle — Anthropic's policy is generally no prorated refunds for partial billing periods outside the EU/UK 14-day window.
How Claude by Anthropic will try to keep you
Claude by Anthropic may respond with a retention offer — a discount, a free month, or a downgrade to a cheaper tier. Don't engage with the counteroffer. Restate that you want a full cancellation and cite the consumer law again if they push back.
They’ll say: “In-flow 'are you sure?' confirmation screen at cancellation”
You say: Confirm the cancellation and watch for the on-screen confirmation plus the email receipt — without those, the cancellation didn't complete.
They’ll say: “Feedback survey asking why you're leaving”
You say: Skip or give a one-line reason — feedback is optional and isn't required to complete cancellation.
They’ll say: “Promotional credits / discounts (e.g. Pro at 50% off for 3 months, free usage credits when new models launch)”
You say: If you still want to leave, decline — these offers are time-limited and the price snaps back. If you'd actually use Claude at the discount, accept and set a calendar reminder for when it expires.
They’ll say: “'You'll lose your chat history' fear”
You say: Untrue — Anthropic confirms conversation history, artifacts and custom instructions stay intact when you downgrade to Free.
They’ll say: “Refund request routed through Fin (AI chatbot) before a human”
You say: Pick 'Claude Refund Request' explicitly, state the reason (billing error, duplicate charge, EU/UK 14-day right), and ask to escalate to a human specialist if Fin can't resolve.
