YouVersion plans you can cancel
- Bible App (Free)$0.00/mo
Nothing to cancel, the app is free with no in-app purchases. You can delete the free account in-app (You/Profile > Settings > Edit Profile > Delete Account), which is permanent.
- Recurring Gift / Scheduled Giving (donor-chosen amount)
Self-serve: give.bible.com > Sign In > profile photo > Manage Giving > select the scheduled payment > Cancel Scheduled Gift > Delete. In-app (iOS/Android): You tab > More (≡) > Giving > Scheduled Giving > Cancel Scheduled Gift > Delete.
Does YouVersion charge a cancellation fee?
We found no cancellation fee in YouVersion’s published terms. On a rolling plan you simply pay to the end of the current billing period and nothing after. If you’re inside a fixed minimum term, check your signup email for the end date, cancelling early is where fees usually hide.
What doesn’t work for cancelling YouVersion
Based on 6 sources, Reddit, app reviews, and direct testing. Skip these and save yourself the loop.
- ✕ Hunting for a 'YouVersion' subscription in your Apple or Google Play subscriptions list, The genuine Life.Church Bible App is free with no in-app purchases, so nothing appears there. Recurring YouVersion charges run through Stripe/PayPal giving, not the app stores.
- ✕ Emailing YouVersion to cancel a weekly/yearly 'Bible' app subscription, Lookalike apps (e.g. an App Store listing titled 'You Version Bible App' with Premium Weekly $5.99 / Premium Yearly $29.99 under a different developer) are not YouVersion; only Apple or Google can cancel and refund them.
- ✕ Deleting the saved payment method to stop a recurring gift, The help centre states that for scheduled gifts you must add a replacement payment method before you can delete the current one, so deleting a card is blocked and is not a cancellation route.
- ✕ Deleting your YouVersion account to stop the money, Account deletion is permanent and wipes Prayers, Plan records, Badges, Notes, Highlights and friend activity, while the giving schedule is a separate payment record, cancel the scheduled gift first.
- ✕ Uninstalling the app, Removing the app ends nothing financial: scheduled gifts keep processing on their chosen date, and an app-store subscription to a lookalike app keeps renewing.
- ✕ Calling a YouVersion support line, YouVersion publishes no direct customer-service phone number; third-party directories list a Life.Church corporate switchboard with a low reported resolution rate rather than a cancellations desk.
Cancelled YouVersion but still being charged?
Three common reasons, in order of likelihood:
- The cancellation didn’t actually complete. If you never received a written confirmation from YouVersion, treat it as not cancelled. Email
giving@youversion.comreferencing your original request date and ask for written confirmation plus a refund of any charge taken since. - You cancelled in the wrong place. Subscriptions started through the App Store or Google Play bill through Apple or Google, cancelling on YouVersion’s site doesn’t touch them. Check Settings → Subscriptions on iPhone, or Play Store → Payments & subscriptions on Android.
- Billing lag. A charge that was already in flight when you cancelled can still land a few days later. One trailing charge can be normal; two is not.
If they keep charging after a confirmed cancellation, that’s chargeback territory: dispute the charge with your bank citing “subscription cancelled, merchant continued billing”. The yoink app also flags this automatically, it keeps watching your inbox after a confirmed cancellation and alerts you if YouVersion charges again.
How YouVersion will try to keep you
YouVersion may respond with a retention offer, a discount, a free month, or a downgrade to a cheaper tier. Don't engage with the counteroffer. Restate that you want a full cancellation and cite the consumer law again if they push back.
They’ll say: “Ministry-framed guilt on the exit screens, the delete-account article opens with 'We're sorry to see you go' and hopes you'll 'continue to seek God every day'.”
You say: You can leave the sentiment unanswered. Reply with one line: 'Please cancel scheduled gift ID/date X and confirm in writing.' You are cancelling a payment instruction, not making a spiritual decision.
They’ll say: “Giving FAQs redirect the conversation to tithing and mission impact ('Should I give to YouVersion instead of tithing to my church?', 'what your contribution is used for') instead of processing the stop.”
You say: Acknowledge the mission in one sentence, then restate the instruction: cancel all future scheduled gifts effective immediately, and confirm the date of the last payment that will be taken.
They’ll say: “Your card stays on file, the Giving FAQ states YouVersion saves your payment information 'to make it easier for you to give in the future', stored with Stripe and PayPal.”
You say: Ask explicitly: 'Delete my stored payment method and revoke the Stripe/PayPal mandate for my account.' If they will not, revoke the recurring authorisation at your bank or in PayPal yourself.
They’ll say: “Support answers by pointing you to a self-serve help article; third-party complaint directories show a low full-resolution rate and no live cancellation desk.”
You say: Send the facts once, account email, last four digits, charge date, amount, statement descriptor (often shows Life.Church), and ask for a named owner plus a written cancellation confirmation within 5 business days, cc giving@youversion.com and help@youversion.com.
Your rights when cancelling
The law where you live is the strongest hook, lead with it when you contact the company.
United States
- FTC Click-to-Cancel Rule (2024+)Cancel must be as easy as sign-up.
The Federal Trade Commission’s Click-to-Cancel rule requires YouVersion to make cancelling at least as simple as signing up, same channel, same number of clicks. If they buried the cancel button or forced a phone call, they’re in violation; report to reportfraud.ftc.gov.
- California ARL (auto-renewal law)Renewal must be cancellable online.
California Business & Professions Code §17602 forces any company billing California residents on auto-renewal to provide an online cancel mechanism. Lawsuits have been won on this; companies often refund quickly when it’s cited.
Worldwide
- Card-issuer chargebackYour bank can reverse the charge.
Visa, Mastercard, and Amex all run chargeback schemes, “goods/services not as described” or “subscription not cancelled” are valid reason codes everywhere they operate. Your bank handles the dispute; YouVersion has ~45 days to defend.
Rights in other regions (United Kingdom, European Union)
United Kingdom
- Consumer Contracts Regulations 201314-day cooling-off on new subscriptions.
You can terminate any continuous service contract within 14 days of starting it and recover any payment, no questions asked. Applies regardless of YouVersion’s own policy.
- Consumer Rights Act 2015Services must be as described.
If YouVersion’s service was misrepresented or didn’t deliver what was promised, you have a statutory right to remedy (repair, refund, or price reduction) regardless of their terms.
European Union
- Consumer Rights Directive 2011/83/EU14-day right of withdrawal across all EU states.
EU-wide statutory right to withdraw from any distance-sold contract within 14 days. Mirrored into local law in every member state. YouVersion must honour it regardless of where they’re headquartered.
Delete your YouVersion account (not just cancel)
Cancelling stops the billing; deleting removes your account and personal data. Do them in that order, deleting an account with an active subscription can leave the billing running with no way to log in and stop it.
If there’s no delete option in YouVersion’s account settings, email giving@youversion.com with the subject Account deletion request, [your account email] and ask for your account and personal data to be erased under state privacy laws such as the CCPA. They’re typically required to act on it, most companies complete erasure within about 30 days, and you should ask for written confirmation when it’s done.
Common questions about cancelling YouVersion
Yes. The Bible App from YouVersion (Life.Church) is **100% free with no ads and no in-app purchases**, every translation, reading plan, audio Bible and offline download is included at no cost, on iOS, Android, web, Apple TV and watch. There is no premium tier and no 'YouVersion+'. The only payments connected to YouVersion are **voluntary donations** you choose to set up at give.bible.com or inside the app. So if your statement shows a recurring Bible-app charge, it is either a gift you scheduled or a different app entirely.
Money-back questions (windows, pro-rata, chargebacks) are covered in the YouVersion refund guide. Need a human for something else entirely? The YouVersion contact guide lists every channel that actually answers.
