The fastest way

Wise has no subscription to cancel. To close your account, empty every balance and wait for pending transfers and card payments to finish. Then go to Settings → Close account on the web or in the app. To cancel a pending transfer, go to Home → Cancel transfer. If you're stuck, email complaints@wise.com with the subject 'Account closure, [your account email]'. Wise aims to reply within 1 working day.

Or let yoink do it for you.

Every way to cancel Wise

Timing matters: There's no billing cycle. You can only close the account once every balance is at zero and no transfers or card payments are pending. You can only cancel a transfer before it's marked complete. Unpaid transfers are cancelled automatically after 2 weeks. If Wise closes your account, you usually have 90 days from its first email to move your money out. To stop a scheduled US payment by phone, call at least 3 business days before it's due.

Cancelling a Wise order by email

Wise won’t action a cancellation from an email alone, use the fastest channel above for the cancellation itself. This email still earns its place: it puts your cancellation date in writing (your evidence if they keep billing) and it’s where the refund request happens.

  1. Email the verified address

Wise plans you can cancel

What happens to what you’ve already paid

Wise charges per transaction, not by subscription, so there are no recurring charges to refund. Money transfers: you can cancel a transfer yourself while it's set up, on its way to Wise, or being processed. You get the full amount back, except on Swift transfers. Once a transfer is marked complete it is final, and Wise won't recall it. The recipient has to ask their bank to reject it. Account closures started by Wise: you usually have 90 days from Wise's first email to move your money out. If the account is already deactivated, submit a refund request on the appeal page. Refunds take 3 to 10 working days for card payments, 2 to 3 for bank or wire payments, and up to 90 working days for ACH or bank debit payments.

“Generally no, there’s no fee for cancelling and refunding a transfer. We’ll refund the full amount you paid us in most cases, except for Swift transfers.”

Does Wise charge a cancellation fee?

Wise’s terms mention conditions worth checking before you cancel, see the plan notes and policy quote above for the specifics we found. In general: rolling monthly plans end at the period you’ve already paid for with nothing extra to pay, while minimum-term or contract plans can carry an early-exit charge until the term ends.

What doesn’t work for cancelling Wise

Based on 8 sources, Reddit, app reviews, and direct testing. Skip these and save yourself the loop.

Cancelled Wise but still being charged?

Three common reasons, in order of likelihood:

If they keep charging after a confirmed cancellation, that’s chargeback territory: dispute the charge with your bank citing “subscription cancelled, merchant continued billing”. The yoink app also flags this automatically, it keeps watching your inbox after a confirmed cancellation and alerts you if Wise charges again.

How Wise will try to keep you

Wise may respond with a retention offer, a discount, a free month, or a downgrade to a cheaper tier. Don't engage with the counteroffer. Restate that you want a full cancellation and cite the consumer law again if they push back.

Your rights when cancelling

The law where you live is the strongest hook, lead with it when you contact the company.

Worldwide

  • Card-issuer chargeback
Your bank can reverse the charge.

Visa, Mastercard, and Amex all run chargeback schemes, “goods/services not as described” or “subscription not cancelled” are valid reason codes everywhere they operate. Your bank handles the dispute; Wise has ~45 days to defend.

Rights in other regions (United Kingdom)

United Kingdom

  • Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013
    14-day cooling-off on new subscriptions.

You can terminate any continuous service contract within 14 days of starting it and recover any payment, no questions asked. Applies regardless of Wise’s own policy.

  • Consumer Rights Act 2015
    Services must be as described.

If Wise’s service was misrepresented or didn’t deliver what was promised, you have a statutory right to remedy (repair, refund, or price reduction) regardless of their terms.

Delete your Wise account (not just cancel)

Cancelling stops the billing; deleting removes your account and personal data. Do them in that order, deleting an account with an active subscription can leave the billing running with no way to log in and stop it.

If there’s no delete option in Wise’s account settings, email reply@support.wise.com with the subject Account deletion request, [your account email] and ask for your account and personal data to be erased under state privacy laws such as the CCPA. They’re typically required to act on it, most companies complete erasure within about 30 days, and you should ask for written confirmation when it’s done.

Common questions about cancelling Wise

You close a personal Wise account yourself on the website or in the app. First, **empty every balance**: from Home, open each currency, choose Send and send the full amount to an outside bank account. Then **wait for pending transfers and card payments to finish**, or cancel them. Finally, click your name or initials → **Settings** → **Close account** and follow the on-screen steps. The option won't work while money or pending payments remain. Download any statements you need beforehand, because you lose access to them after closing.

Money-back questions (windows, pro-rata, chargebacks) are covered in the Wise refund guide. Need a human for something else entirely? The Wise contact guide lists every channel that actually answers.
