Please confirm by reply that the subscription has been cancelled and that no further charges will be taken. Best, [your name]

Cancel via app Settings > AI Assist, or via Apple/Google subscription settings if purchased there.
- Auto-Assist (V3+ legacy)€2.49/mo

tado°’s refund policy
tado° gives you a statutory 14-day right to withdraw on hardware bought from tado.com, plus a discretionary 30-day money-back guarantee if the devices are returned full, undamaged and in original packaging. Refunds are processed within 14 days of tado° receiving the goods. App-store subscription payments (Apple/Google) cannot be refunded by tado° directly, you must request those refunds via the App Store or Play Store. Cancelling AI Assist or Auto-Assist stops future billing but doesn't refund the current period.
“If you withdraw from this contract, we will refund any payments we have received from you, without delay and at the latest within 14 days from the date on which the notification regarding your withdrawal from this contract has been received by us.”

Does tado° charge a cancellation fee?
tado°’s terms mention conditions worth checking before you cancel, see the plan notes and policy quote above for the specifics we found. In general: rolling monthly plans end at the period you’ve already paid for with nothing extra to pay, while minimum-term or contract plans can carry an early-exit charge until the term ends. If you signed up online within the last 14 days, the EU Consumer Rights Directive gives you a cooling-off right to walk away, fee-free, for most digital subscriptions.
What doesn’t work for cancelling tado°
Based on 4 sources, Reddit, app reviews, and direct testing. Skip these and save yourself the loop.
- ✕ Asking tado° support to refund an in-app subscription bought via Apple or Google, Terms state payments made via the Apple AppStore or Google Play Store cannot be withdrawn or refunded via tado°; users must claim through the relevant store.
- ✕ Asking for a hardware refund because tado° introduced a paywall/subscription, There is no official refund policy for existing customers who purchased tado° systems before the subscription was introduced; support has only offered returns when still inside the retailer's return window.
- ✕ Returning hardware bought from a retailer (Amazon, Currys, B&Q) directly to tado°, Only items bought from the tado° webshop fall under tado°'s return policy, retailer purchases must be returned under that retailer's policy.
- ✕ Returning damaged or incomplete devices for a full refund, tado° reserves the right to refuse the refund or reduce the repayment amount if the returned device is damaged or incomplete.
- ✕ Claiming under the Energy Savings Guarantee without 6 months of connected use, ESG requires the device to have been connected and in use for at least 6 months (2 months for AC Control) and purchased less than 12 months ago via the tado° webshop or a retail partner.
Cancelled tado° but still being charged?
Three common reasons, in order of likelihood:
- The cancellation didn’t actually complete. If you never received a written confirmation from tado°, treat it as not cancelled. Email
support@tado.comreferencing your original request date and ask for written confirmation plus a refund of any charge taken since. - You cancelled in the wrong place. Subscriptions started through the App Store or Google Play bill through Apple or Google, cancelling on tado°’s site doesn’t touch them. Check Settings → Subscriptions on iPhone, or Play Store → Payments & subscriptions on Android.
- Billing lag. A charge that was already in flight when you cancelled can still land a few days later. One trailing charge can be normal; two is not.
If they keep charging after a confirmed cancellation, that’s chargeback territory: dispute the charge with your bank citing “subscription cancelled, merchant continued billing”. The yoink app also flags this automatically, it keeps watching your inbox after a confirmed cancellation and alerts you if tado° charges again.
How tado° will try to keep you
tado° may respond with a retention offer, a discount, a free month, or a downgrade to a cheaper tier. Don't engage with the counteroffer. Restate that you want a full cancellation and cite the consumer law again if they push back.
They’ll say: “Offering to make a previously paywalled feature (e.g. Room Link, geofencing) free or pointing to third-party platforms as a workaround”
You say: Thanks, but I'm not asking for feature access, I'm exercising my statutory right of withdrawal/refund on the hardware order placed on [date]. Please process the return label and refund per your Terms section 7.
They’ll say: “Claiming the AI Assist / Auto-Assist subscription is 'optional' so no refund is owed on hardware”
You say: The optionality of AI Assist isn't the issue, the device I bought no longer delivers the smart functionality it was sold with. Under UK CRA 2015 / EU CRD I'm requesting a return and refund. Please confirm in writing within 14 days.
They’ll say: “Telling app-store subscribers tado° 'cannot' refund them”
You say: Understood that the payment is via Apple/Google. Please confirm in writing that you have cancelled the subscription on your side so I can submit a matching refund request to the App Store / Play Store.
They’ll say: “Saying the subscription test was 'just marketing research' and no charge was taken”
You say: I was locked out of the app I paid hardware for, which is a material change to the service. I'd like a return label under your discretionary 30-day money-back guarantee, or alternatively a written commitment that core features remain free.
Your rights when cancelling
The law where you live is the strongest hook, lead with it when you contact the company.
European Union
- Consumer Rights Directive 2011/83/EU14-day right of withdrawal across all EU states.
EU-wide statutory right to withdraw from any distance-sold contract within 14 days. Mirrored into local law in every member state. tado° must honour it regardless of where they’re headquartered.
Worldwide
- Card-issuer chargebackYour bank can reverse the charge.
Visa, Mastercard, and Amex all run chargeback schemes, “goods/services not as described” or “subscription not cancelled” are valid reason codes everywhere they operate. Your bank handles the dispute; tado° has ~45 days to defend.
Rights in other regions (United States, United Kingdom)
United States
- FTC Click-to-Cancel Rule (2024+)Cancel must be as easy as sign-up.
The Federal Trade Commission’s Click-to-Cancel rule requires tado° to make cancelling at least as simple as signing up, same channel, same number of clicks. If they buried the cancel button or forced a phone call, they’re in violation; report to reportfraud.ftc.gov.
- California ARL (auto-renewal law)Renewal must be cancellable online.
California Business & Professions Code §17602 forces any company billing California residents on auto-renewal to provide an online cancel mechanism. Lawsuits have been won on this; companies often refund quickly when it’s cited.
United Kingdom
- Consumer Contracts Regulations 201314-day cooling-off on new subscriptions.
You can terminate any continuous service contract within 14 days of starting it and recover any payment, no questions asked. Applies regardless of tado°’s own policy.
- Consumer Rights Act 2015Services must be as described.
If tado°’s service was misrepresented or didn’t deliver what was promised, you have a statutory right to remedy (repair, refund, or price reduction) regardless of their terms.
Delete your tado° account (not just cancel)
Cancelling stops the billing; deleting removes your account and personal data. Do them in that order, deleting an account with an active subscription can leave the billing running with no way to log in and stop it.
If there’s no delete option in tado°’s account settings, email support@tado.com with the subject Account deletion request, [your account email] and ask for your account and personal data to be erased under GDPR Article 17, the right to erasure. They’re typically required to act on it, most companies complete erasure within about 30 days, and you should ask for written confirmation when it’s done.
Common questions about cancelling tado°
Open the tado° app → **Settings → AI Assist** (for tado° X devices) or **Settings → Auto-Assist** (for V3+ and older devices) and tap cancel. If you originally subscribed through the **Apple App Store** or **Google Play Store**, you must cancel via that store's subscription settings, tado° cannot cancel it for you. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you keep AI features until then.
Money-back questions (windows, pro-rata, chargebacks) are covered in the tado° refund guide. Need a human for something else entirely? The tado° contact guide lists every channel that actually answers.
