Cancellation Request, [your account email]Send this template
Hi Shipt team, I'm writing to cancel the subscription on my account, [your account email]. I'm giving notice ahead of my next renewal date and expect no further charges from that date. Under the FTC's Click-to-Cancel rule, cancellation must be available through a channel as simple as the one I signed up through. Please confirm by reply that the subscription has been cancelled and that no further charges will be taken. If your policy allows it, I'd also appreciate a pro-rata refund for the unused portion of the current period. Best, [your name]

Wait 24 hours. If there's no response, send a polite one-line follow-up referencing the original request.
Shipt plans you can cancel
- Monthly Membership$10.99/mo
Cancel before the next monthly billing date; billing recurs exactly one month after the sign-up date.
- Yearly Membership$99.00/yr
Must be cancelled before the renewal year begins to stop the next $99 charge.
- Student Membership$4.99/mo
Discount runs up to four years or graduation, then auto-renews at $10.99/month unless cancelled.
What happens to what you’ve already paid
Two different charge types get two different rules. MEMBERSHIP FEES: annual members can get a full refund of the $99 if they cancel inside the first month of the term; after that Shipt only refunds for 'extenuating circumstances' at its own discretion, and monthly ($10.99) or student ($4.99) fees are stated as non-refundable, anyone who has previously been a Shipt member is excluded from membership refunds entirely. ORDER/ITEM CHARGES (missing, wrong or damaged groceries): reported per-order in the app within 7 days, with support replying by email in 24 to 48 hours; Target-placed orders get up to 90 days. PRORATION only appears in one documented path, transferring a Shipt membership to Target Circle 360, where you choose a prorated refund or prorated Shipt credit; if you don't choose, Shipt auto-issues credit 30 days later and that credit expires after 90 days.
“if you have an annual membership, you shall be eligible for a full refund of your membership fee if you cancel during the first month of an annual membership”

Does Shipt charge a cancellation fee?
Shipt’s terms mention conditions worth checking before you cancel, see the plan notes and policy quote above for the specifics we found. In general: rolling monthly plans end at the period you’ve already paid for with nothing extra to pay, while minimum-term or contract plans can carry an early-exit charge until the term ends.
What doesn’t work for cancelling Shipt
Based on 3 sources, Reddit, app reviews, and direct testing. Skip these and save yourself the loop.
- ✕ Asking for a refund of a monthly ($10.99) or student ($4.99) membership fee, The terms of service explicitly exclude monthly memberships from membership fee refunds, agents cite this to refuse.
- ✕ Cancelling an annual membership months in and expecting money back, Refund eligibility ends after the first month of the annual term unless Shipt grants 'extenuating circumstances' at its sole discretion.
- ✕ Re-joining, then asking for a fee refund as a returning member, Terms: previous Shipt members are not eligible for a membership fee refund, and the 14-day trial is new-customers-only.
- ✕ Deleting the app or removing your saved card instead of cancelling, Membership remains in effect until it is cancelled; a failed payment simply lets it expire, leaving the account and disputes messy.
- ✕ Emailing support and waiting silently for a fast cancellation, Email is the slowest Shipt channel (roughly 24-hour replies), so it works as a paper trail but not as a same-day stop-the-billing route.
- ✕ Reporting missing/wrong/damaged items more than 7 days after delivery, Shipt applies a 7-day limitation on reporting order issues (90 days only for orders placed through Target).
- ✕ Letting the Target Circle 360 transfer choice lapse and expecting cash, No selection means Shipt auto-issues a prorated Shipt credit 30 days later, and that credit expires after 90 days.
- ✕ Calling Target Guest Services about a Shipt-billed membership, Target routes you back to Shipt unless you signed up through Target; complaint records show calls transferred and dropped between the two.
Cancelled Shipt but still being charged?
Three common reasons, in order of likelihood:
- The cancellation didn’t actually complete. If you never received a written confirmation from Shipt, treat it as not cancelled. Email
payments@shipt.comreferencing your original request date and ask for written confirmation plus a refund of any charge taken since. - You cancelled in the wrong place. Subscriptions started through the App Store or Google Play bill through Apple or Google, cancelling on Shipt’s site doesn’t touch them. Check Settings → Subscriptions on iPhone, or Play Store → Payments & subscriptions on Android.
- Billing lag. A charge that was already in flight when you cancelled can still land a few days later. One trailing charge can be normal; two is not.
If they keep charging after a confirmed cancellation, that’s chargeback territory: dispute the charge with your bank citing “subscription cancelled, merchant continued billing”. The yoink app also flags this automatically, it keeps watching your inbox after a confirmed cancellation and alerts you if Shipt charges again.
How Shipt will try to keep you
Shipt may respond with a retention offer, a discount, a free month, or a downgrade to a cheaper tier. Don't engage with the counteroffer. Restate that you want a full cancellation and cite the consumer law again if they push back.
They’ll say: “Free-month extension when you phone to cancel a trial (users report being offered two extra free months on the Target-sourced trial).”
You say: Decline in writing: 'I don't want an extension or credit, please cancel the membership today and email confirmation to this address.' An extension restarts the auto-renew clock.
They’ll say: “Steering you to a prorated Shipt credit instead of cash (the default outcome on Circle 360 transfers, and credits expire after 90 days).”
You say: State: 'I decline store credit and elect the prorated refund to my original payment method.' Note that credit expiring in 90 days is not equivalent value.
They’ll say: “Downgrade pitch to the $4.99/month Student Membership or a discounted annual renewal instead of cancelling.”
You say: 'I'm not looking to change plans, cancel the membership entirely. If you can only downgrade, cancel first and I'll re-enrol later if I choose.'
They’ll say: “Long phone queues on the general support line (reports of ~2-hour waits) that push people to give up mid-cancellation.”
You say: Use the dedicated cancellation line (205) 259-7798 within 6am, 8pm CT, and send the email to support@shipt.com in parallel so your cancellation is date-stamped even if the call fails.
They’ll say: “Discretion framing, 'refunds are solely within the discretion of Shipt', used to close refund requests without review.”
You say: Reply once, factually: unused period, zero orders since the charge, request escalation to a supervisor, and note that a card chargeback is the next step if refused.
They’ll say: “Refund acceptance is written as a full release of claims relating to the incident.”
You say: Ask for the refund amount in writing before accepting, and don't accept a partial goodwill credit if you're still owed the full membership fee.
Your rights when cancelling
The law where you live is the strongest hook, lead with it when you contact the company.
United States
- FTC Click-to-Cancel Rule (2024+)Cancel must be as easy as sign-up.
The Federal Trade Commission’s Click-to-Cancel rule requires Shipt to make cancelling at least as simple as signing up, same channel, same number of clicks. If they buried the cancel button or forced a phone call, they’re in violation; report to reportfraud.ftc.gov.
- California ARL (auto-renewal law)Renewal must be cancellable online.
California Business & Professions Code §17602 forces any company billing California residents on auto-renewal to provide an online cancel mechanism. Lawsuits have been won on this; companies often refund quickly when it’s cited.
Worldwide
- Card-issuer chargebackYour bank can reverse the charge.
Visa, Mastercard, and Amex all run chargeback schemes, “goods/services not as described” or “subscription not cancelled” are valid reason codes everywhere they operate. Your bank handles the dispute; Shipt has ~45 days to defend.
Delete your Shipt account (not just cancel)
Cancelling stops the billing; deleting removes your account and personal data. Do them in that order, deleting an account with an active subscription can leave the billing running with no way to log in and stop it.
If there’s no delete option in Shipt’s account settings, email payments@shipt.com with the subject Account deletion request, [your account email] and ask for your account and personal data to be erased under state privacy laws such as the CCPA. They’re typically required to act on it, most companies complete erasure within about 30 days, and you should ask for written confirmation when it’s done.
Common questions about cancelling Shipt
Log in at **shipt.com/login** or open the Shipt app, tap **Account → Shipt Membership Profile**, scroll to **How to cancel my membership** and confirm **Yes, cancel membership**. A confirmation email goes to your account address once it completes. Prefer a human? Shipt runs a dedicated cancellation line, **(205) 259-7798**, 6am, 8pm CT. The terms also allow cancellation by email to **support@shipt.com** if you include your full name, phone number and account email, the slowest route, but the best paper trail if you're also asking for money back.
Money-back questions (windows, pro-rata, chargebacks) are covered in the Shipt refund guide. Need a human for something else entirely? The Shipt contact guide lists every channel that actually answers.
