Cancellation Request — [your account email]Send this template
Hi Pathé team, I'm writing to request the immediate cancellation of my subscription tied to this account, effective today. Under applicable consumer-protection law (UK Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, EU Directive 2011/83/EU, or the FTC's Click-to-Cancel rule depending on your jurisdiction), I'm entitled to terminate this continuous service contract through the same channel it was formed in — please confirm by reply that no further charges will be made. If your policy permits, I'd also appreciate a pro-rata refund for any unused portion of the current billing period. Best, [your name]

Pathé’s refund policy
Pathé lets you cancel CinéPass at any time from the month after signup, directly inside your Compte Pathé. New subscribers get a 14-day withdrawal (rétractation) right and can back out without giving a reason. If you paid the whole year upfront, the service abonnés can refund unused months prorata temporis from your resiliation date. Any bookings for showings after your end date will be automatically cancelled.
“Si vous ne pouvez pas résilier votre abonnement en vous rendant dans votre Compte Pathé, nous vous invitons à nous transmettre depuis votre Compte Pathé, rubrique Mon compte > Message > Poser une question, le formulaire de résiliation.”

What doesn’t work for cancelling Pathé
Based on 4 sources — Reddit, app reviews, and direct testing. Skip these and save yourself the loop.
- ✕ Cancelling during the first month after signup via the self-service resiliation button — Pathé's own help article states you can only résilier 'à partir du mois suivant votre souscription' — the option isn't available in month one.
- ✕ Cancelling while your account is currently suspended — Pathé states 'La résiliation de l'abonnement n'est pas possible pendant une période de suspension' — you must reactivate first.
- ✕ Emailing generic Pathé mailboxes like service-commercial@pathe.fr — That address is for Pathé Business/B2B enquiries, not consumer CinéPass cancellations — you'll be redirected to the online form.
- ✕ Sending back your physical CinéPass card — Unnecessary — Pathé deactivates the card remotely once resiliation is processed.
- ✕ Suspending in the final month of your subscription hoping it counts as cancelling — Pathé blocks suspension in the last month of your contract; it will not substitute for a resiliation request.
How Pathé will try to keep you
Pathé may respond with a retention offer — a discount, a free month, or a downgrade to a cheaper tier. Don't engage with the counteroffer. Restate that you want a full cancellation and cite the consumer law again if they push back.
They’ll say: “Offer to suspend your subscription (up to 3 times per rolling 12 months, 30 days each) instead of cancelling”
You say: Please process a full résiliation, not a suspension. I understand suspension is limited to 30 days and reactivates automatically — that's not what I want. Under my Compte Pathé I am requesting termination effective the end of the current billing month.
They’ll say: “Pointing to the initial 6- or 12-month engagement period on legacy Le Pass Solo/Duo cards to refuse mid-term cancellation”
You say: Current CinéPass formulas are sold 'sans engagement' with monthly resiliation from the month following signup. If you consider my card still under a legacy engagement, please send the CGV clause you're relying on; otherwise process my resiliation under the current terms.
They’ll say: “Ignoring the online form and asking you to send a lettre recommandée to Montceau-les-Mines”
You say: The Pathé help centre lists the Compte Pathé online form (Thème 'Abonnement CinéPass', Sous-thème 'Résiliation') as the primary route. Please confirm my resiliation via that channel — a recommandé is not a legal requirement for a sans-engagement contract.
They’ll say: “Delaying past the 15th of the month so your cancellation only takes effect at the end of the next month”
You say: My request was submitted on [date] via the official form. Under Pathé's own policy, requests received before the 15th take effect at the end of the current month — please apply that timeline and refund any charge taken after.
Your rights when cancelling
Consumer law varies by where you live. The strongest hook for your country is the one to lead with when you contact the company — pick the one that applies and quote it in your email.
United States
- FTC Click-to-Cancel Rule (2024+)Cancel must be as easy as sign-up.
The Federal Trade Commission’s Click-to-Cancel rule requires Pathé to make cancelling at least as simple as signing up — same channel, same number of clicks. If they buried the cancel button or forced a phone call, they’re in violation; report to reportfraud.ftc.gov.
- California ARL (auto-renewal law)Renewal must be cancellable online.
California Business & Professions Code §17602 forces any company billing California residents on auto-renewal to provide an online cancel mechanism. Lawsuits have been won on this; companies often refund quickly when it’s cited.
- Restore Online Shoppers’ Confidence Act (ROSCA)Negative-option billing must be clearly disclosed.
Federal law (15 U.S.C. §8401) requires Pathé to clearly disclose any negative-option / auto-renewal terms before charging. Buried terms = potential federal violation. Report to the FTC alongside any FTC complaint.
United Kingdom
- Consumer Contracts Regulations 201314-day cooling-off on new subscriptions.
You can terminate any continuous service contract within 14 days of starting it and recover any payment, no questions asked. Applies regardless of Pathé’s own policy.
- Consumer Rights Act 2015Services must be as described.
If Pathé’s service was misrepresented or didn’t deliver what was promised, you have a statutory right to remedy (repair, refund, or price reduction) regardless of their terms.
European Union
- Consumer Rights Directive 2011/83/EU14-day right of withdrawal across all EU states.
EU-wide statutory right to withdraw from any distance-sold contract within 14 days. Mirrored into local law in every member state. Pathé must honour it regardless of where they’re headquartered.
- Digital Content Directive (EU) 2019/770Refund rights for digital content failures.
Specific to digital subscriptions — gives you the right to a price reduction or contract termination when Pathé’s digital service is not as advertised, with no time limit beyond the contract period.
Worldwide
- Card-issuer chargebackYour bank can reverse the charge.
Visa, Mastercard, and Amex all run chargeback schemes — “goods/services not as described” or “subscription not cancelled” are valid reason codes everywhere they operate. Your bank handles the dispute; Pathé has ~45 days to defend.
Common questions about cancelling Pathé
