What happens to what you’ve already paid

Three different rules apply depending on what you were charged for. Epic Games Store game and app purchases (PC/Mac) are refundable within 14 days if you have under 2 hours of runtime and the item is marked 'refundable' or 'self-refundable', self-refundable ones you can process yourself under Account → Transactions; mobile store purchases only get a 2-hour window. Fortnite Crew subscription charges are different: Epic's help centre says Crew subscriptions cannot be refunded, so cancelling stops the next renewal but does not refund the month you're in and there is no pro-rata. Fortnite Item Shop purchases made with V-Bucks are separate again, use Cancel Purchase within 24 hours if you haven't equipped the item, or spend one of your three Return Tickets on anything bought in the last 30 days; Passes, Pass levels, Llamas and gifted items are excluded. Anything bought through PlayStation, Xbox or Nintendo has to be refunded by that platform, not Epic.

Does Epic Games charge a cancellation fee?

We found no cancellation fee in Epic Games’s published terms. On a rolling plan you simply pay to the end of the current billing period and nothing after. If you’re inside a fixed minimum term, check your signup email for the end date, cancelling early is where fees usually hide.

What doesn’t work for cancelling Epic Games

• ✕ Emailing a support address to cancel or demand a refund, Epic does not publish a direct customer-service email address, all email contact runs through its ticketing system, so mail to directory-listed addresses like help@epicgames.com usually only generates a 'open a support request here' deflection (the same reply Epic posts on BBB complaints).
• ✕ Phoning Epic Games support, Epic does not operate a published consumer support phone line; numbers circulating online route to corporate reception or are scams. Live chat/ticket from the help centre is the only real route.
• ✕ Filing a bank chargeback after a refund is denied, Epic states support cannot reverse or assist with outcomes resulting from a chargeback, and Fortnite's chargeback policy blocks the account from making purchases across Epic products for up to one year after two or more chargebacks.
• ✕ Asking Epic to refund the Crew month you've already paid for, Cancelling turns off future renewals and does not refund the current period; the help centre states Crew subscriptions cannot be refunded.

Cancelled Epic Games but still being charged?

Three common reasons, in order of likelihood:

• The cancellation didn’t actually complete. If you never received a written confirmation from Epic Games, treat it as not cancelled. Email help@epicgames.com referencing your original request date and ask for written confirmation plus a refund of any charge taken since.
• You cancelled in the wrong place. Subscriptions started through the App Store or Google Play bill through Apple or Google, cancelling on Epic Games’s site doesn’t touch them. Check Settings → Subscriptions on iPhone, or Play Store → Payments & subscriptions on Android.
• Billing lag. A charge that was already in flight when you cancelled can still land a few days later. One trailing charge can be normal; two is not.

If they keep charging after a confirmed cancellation, that’s chargeback territory: dispute the charge with your bank citing “subscription cancelled, merchant continued billing”. How Epic Games will try to keep you

Epic Games may respond with a retention offer, a discount, a free month, or a downgrade to a cheaper tier. Don't engage with the counteroffer. Restate that you want a full cancellation and cite the consumer law again if they push back.

• They’ll say: “Loss-framing in the cancel flow: you're reminded you'll lose Battle Pass, OG Pass, LEGO Pass and Music Pass access, plus any unclaimed rewards, the moment the subscription lapses.”

  You say: Crew Pack cosmetics you've already claimed stay in your locker permanently, only pass access ends. If you want the season's pass rewards, claim them before your renewal date, then cancel; many players subscribe one month per season for exactly this reason.

• They’ll say: “Timing trap: cancelling mid-cycle gives no refund and no pro-rata, so the interface nudges you to 'wait until later', and later becomes another $11.99 renewal.”

  You say: Cancel the day you decide, not the day before renewal. Access continues to the end of the paid period anyway, so there is zero downside to cancelling immediately and no partial refund to forfeit.

• They’ll say: “Support deflection: billing and account tickets get answered with 'we cannot find a recent support contact, please open a support request here', pushing you back to the web form (Epic's standard BBB reply pattern).”

  You say: Open the ticket from the account that was charged, put the transaction ID and charge date in the subject line ('Unauthorised charge [date], $[amount], transaction ID'), and ask in-chat for escalation to a billing supervisor rather than re-explaining in a new ticket.

• They’ll say: “Chargeback deterrence: policy warns that two or more chargebacks block purchasing across Epic products for up to a year, which discourages people from using their card protections at all.”

  You say: Exhaust Epic's own refund request first and keep the denial in writing, that written denial is what your bank or card issuer needs. Epic has also confirmed it restored accounts banned under its older chargeback policy, so a purchasing block is not automatically permanent.

• They’ll say: “Value shrink without a price cut: the monthly V-Bucks grant fell from 1,000 to 800 in 2026 while the $11.99 price stayed the same, announced by email rather than in the cancel flow.”

  You say: If you subscribed on the old terms, say so explicitly in your ticket: you were billed for a package whose advertised benefit was reduced mid-subscription and you want the renewal refunded rather than merely cancelled.

The law where you live is the strongest hook, lead with it when you contact the company.

Delete your Epic Games account (not just cancel)

Cancelling stops the billing; deleting removes your account and personal data. Do them in that order, deleting an account with an active subscription can leave the billing running with no way to log in and stop it.

If there’s no delete option in Epic Games’s account settings, email help@epicgames.com with the subject Account deletion request, [your account email] and ask for your account and personal data to be erased under state privacy laws such as the CCPA. They’re typically required to act on it, most companies complete erasure within about 30 days, and you should ask for written confirmation when it’s done.
