Eight Sleep’s refund policy
Eight Sleep gives you 30 calendar days from the carrier's delivery scan to email support@eightsleep.com and start a return. Returns ship free on a prepaid label, and they refund both the Pod hardware and the Autopilot membership in 5 to 10 business days after approval. Outside that window the 12-month Autopilot commitment generally has to be paid out, though escalation has worked for some users. Mattress foam isn't taken back, they arrange donation or disposal.
“Contact our support team at support@eightsleep.com within 30 calendar days of your delivery date. Provide your order number and reason for return. Our team will provide return shipping instructions and a prepaid return label. Once approved, refunds are typically processed within 5-10 business days.”

Does Eight Sleep charge a cancellation fee?
We found no cancellation fee in Eight Sleep’s published terms. On a rolling plan you simply pay to the end of the current billing period and nothing after. If you’re inside a fixed minimum term, check your signup email for the end date, cancelling early is where fees usually hide.
What doesn’t work for cancelling Eight Sleep
Based on 4 sources, Reddit, app reviews, and direct testing. Skip these and save yourself the loop.
- ✕ Cancelling Autopilot in-app during the first 12 months while keeping the Pod, All Pods come with a mandatory 12-month Autopilot subscription commitment; in-app cancel only schedules termination after that period.
- ✕ Returning a used Pod Cover for a refund, Opened/used Pod Covers are excluded from the standard return path for sanitary reasons; you may only be offered an exchange.
- ✕ Returning the foam mattress portion of a Pod Mattress bundle, Eight Sleep does not take back mattresses, they will arrange donation, recycling, or disposal instead, refunding the value.
- ✕ Requesting a return after the 30-day window, Returns requested after the 30 calendar-day window are not accepted per the published return policy.
- ✕ Calling a support phone line to cancel quickly, Eight Sleep routes cancellations and returns through email (support@eightsleep.com); third-party trackers report phone support is effectively unavailable.
Cancelled Eight Sleep but still being charged?
Three common reasons, in order of likelihood:
- The cancellation didn’t actually complete. If you never received a written confirmation from Eight Sleep, treat it as not cancelled. Email
support@eightsleep.comreferencing your original request date and ask for written confirmation plus a refund of any charge taken since. - You cancelled in the wrong place. Subscriptions started through the App Store or Google Play bill through Apple or Google, cancelling on Eight Sleep’s site doesn’t touch them. Check Settings → Subscriptions on iPhone, or Play Store → Payments & subscriptions on Android.
- Billing lag. A charge that was already in flight when you cancelled can still land a few days later. One trailing charge can be normal; two is not.
If they keep charging after a confirmed cancellation, that’s chargeback territory: dispute the charge with your bank citing “subscription cancelled, merchant continued billing”. The yoink app also flags this automatically, it keeps watching your inbox after a confirmed cancellation and alerts you if Eight Sleep charges again.
How Eight Sleep will try to keep you
Eight Sleep may respond with a retention offer, a discount, a free month, or a downgrade to a cheaper tier. Don't engage with the counteroffer. Restate that you want a full cancellation and cite the consumer law again if they push back.
They’ll say: “Citing the mandatory 12-month Autopilot commitment to refuse a mid-term cancellation”
You say: Acknowledge the commitment, but point out the published 30-night trial promises a 'full refund' on both Pod and membership purchases if the return is initiated within 30 days of the carrier-confirmed delivery date, request that the membership be cancelled and prorated under that policy.
They’ll say: “Offering a price adjustment or discount instead of a refund when a sale launches after purchase”
You say: Their own sale terms say price adjustments are honoured for products still within the 30-day trial, accept the adjustment only if you intend to keep the Pod, otherwise insist on a full refund and re-purchase at the sale price.
They’ll say: “Steering you toward an exchange or partial return rather than a refund”
You say: Partial returns are explicitly allowed for bundle components (Base, Blanket) within the 30-day window, refuse the exchange and ask them to process individual components for refund under the published partial-return clause.
They’ll say: “Delaying refund of the Autopilot subscription after a hardware return”
You say: Users have reported the subscription is not auto-refunded with hardware returns and escalation is needed, reply with the order number and quote the homepage line that the trial refunds 'both your Pod and membership purchases'.
They’ll say: “Pointing to slow 5 to 10 business-day refund timing to discourage chargebacks”
You say: Mark the 10-business-day deadline in your calendar; if it lapses, your card issuer's Section 75 (UK) or chargeback rights remain open and a brief notice to support usually unsticks the payment.
Your rights when cancelling
The law where you live is the strongest hook, lead with it when you contact the company.
United States
- FTC Click-to-Cancel Rule (2024+)Cancel must be as easy as sign-up.
The Federal Trade Commission’s Click-to-Cancel rule requires Eight Sleep to make cancelling at least as simple as signing up, same channel, same number of clicks. If they buried the cancel button or forced a phone call, they’re in violation; report to reportfraud.ftc.gov.
- California ARL (auto-renewal law)Renewal must be cancellable online.
California Business & Professions Code §17602 forces any company billing California residents on auto-renewal to provide an online cancel mechanism. Lawsuits have been won on this; companies often refund quickly when it’s cited.
Worldwide
- Card-issuer chargebackYour bank can reverse the charge.
Visa, Mastercard, and Amex all run chargeback schemes, “goods/services not as described” or “subscription not cancelled” are valid reason codes everywhere they operate. Your bank handles the dispute; Eight Sleep has ~45 days to defend.
Rights in other regions (United Kingdom, European Union)
United Kingdom
- Consumer Contracts Regulations 201314-day cooling-off on new subscriptions.
You can terminate any continuous service contract within 14 days of starting it and recover any payment, no questions asked. Applies regardless of Eight Sleep’s own policy.
- Consumer Rights Act 2015Services must be as described.
If Eight Sleep’s service was misrepresented or didn’t deliver what was promised, you have a statutory right to remedy (repair, refund, or price reduction) regardless of their terms.
European Union
- Consumer Rights Directive 2011/83/EU14-day right of withdrawal across all EU states.
EU-wide statutory right to withdraw from any distance-sold contract within 14 days. Mirrored into local law in every member state. Eight Sleep must honour it regardless of where they’re headquartered.
Delete your Eight Sleep account (not just cancel)
Cancelling stops the billing; deleting removes your account and personal data. Do them in that order, deleting an account with an active subscription can leave the billing running with no way to log in and stop it.
If there’s no delete option in Eight Sleep’s account settings, email support@eightsleep.com with the subject Account deletion request, [your account email] and ask for your account and personal data to be erased under state privacy laws such as the CCPA. They’re typically required to act on it, most companies complete erasure within about 30 days, and you should ask for written confirmation when it’s done.
Common questions about cancelling Eight Sleep
Cancellation runs through the Eight Sleep app, open your profile and manage the Autopilot plan, or by emailing **support@eightsleep.com** with your order number. Every new Pod carries a **12-month Autopilot commitment**, so an in-app cancel only takes effect after that period ends. If you're still inside the 30-night home trial, return the Pod and both hardware and membership are refunded.
Money-back questions (windows, pro-rata, chargebacks) are covered in the Eight Sleep refund guide. Need a human for something else entirely? The Eight Sleep contact guide lists every channel that actually answers.
