- Online (fastest): Direct cancel flow: my.macpaw.com
- Email: CleanMyMac doesn’t process cancellations by email. Still worth sending one: it dates your cancellation request in writing, which matters for disputes and refunds.
Timing matters: Cancel before the trial's 7th day or the annual renewal date, cancellation stops future billing but does not refund a charge already taken, and renewal charges are non-refundable.
The email that backs it up
CleanMyMac won’t action a cancellation from an email alone, use the fastest channel above for the cancellation itself. This email still earns its place: it puts your cancellation date in writing (your evidence if they keep billing) and it’s where the refund request happens.

Cancellation Request, [your account email]Send this template
Hi CleanMyMac team, I'm writing to cancel the subscription on my account, [your account email]. Please treat this as formal notice of cancellation, effective from the end of the current billing period. Under the FTC's Click-to-Cancel rule, cancellation must be available through a channel as simple as the one I signed up through. Please confirm by reply that the subscription has been cancelled and that no further charges will be taken. Best, [your name]
Wait for confirmation
Wait 24 hours. If there's no response, send a polite one-line follow-up referencing the original request.

CleanMyMac’s refund policy
MacPaw offers a 30-day money-back guarantee on most direct purchases, but monthly (or shorter) plans bought on or after 23 November 2024 only get 14 days. Refunds apply only to the initial purchase, automatic renewals are explicitly not refundable, which is the #1 complaint users hit. To claim, submit a support ticket and pick 'Request a refund', or email support@macpaw.com. If you bought via the Apple App Store or another reseller, MacPaw can't refund you, you must ask Apple/the reseller directly.
“For customers who subscribed to our products with billing intervals of one month or less on or after 23 November 2024, refund requests must be submitted within 14 days of the initial purchase. For all other customers, refund requests must be submitted within 30 days of the initial purchase.”

Does CleanMyMac charge a cancellation fee?
We found no cancellation fee in CleanMyMac’s published terms. On a rolling plan you simply pay to the end of the current billing period and nothing after. If you’re inside a fixed minimum term, check your signup email for the end date, cancelling early is where fees usually hide.
What doesn’t work for cancelling CleanMyMac
Based on 5 sources, Reddit, app reviews, and direct testing. Skip these and save yourself the loop.
- ✕ Uninstalling or deleting the CleanMyMac app to stop billing, Removing the app does not cancel the subscription; auto-renewal keeps charging until you cancel in your MacPaw Account, Subscription Manager, or Apple ID.
- ✕ Cancelling from inside the CleanMyMac app, There is no in-app cancel button; cancellation must be done via my.macpaw.com, the Subscription Manager, or Apple ID Subscriptions.
- ✕ Asking MacPaw to refund an App Store purchase, Apple-processed payments are governed by Apple's policy; MacPaw states it is unable to issue refunds for these, you must contact Apple Support.
- ✕ Requesting a refund after an automatic renewal, Refunds are only available for the initial subscription purchase; renewal payments are excluded, and users report renewal refunds being difficult to get.
- ✕ Calling the number on the homepage to cancel, The +1 877-562-2729 line is for retrieving/resetting your license, not a dedicated cancellation channel, cancel online instead.
Cancelled CleanMyMac but still being charged?
Three common reasons, in order of likelihood:
- The cancellation didn’t actually complete. If you never received a written confirmation from CleanMyMac, treat it as not cancelled. Email
support@macpaw.comreferencing your original request date and ask for written confirmation plus a refund of any charge taken since. - You cancelled in the wrong place. Subscriptions started through the App Store or Google Play bill through Apple or Google, cancelling on CleanMyMac’s site doesn’t touch them. Check Settings → Subscriptions on iPhone, or Play Store → Payments & subscriptions on Android.
- Billing lag. A charge that was already in flight when you cancelled can still land a few days later. One trailing charge can be normal; two is not.
If they keep charging after a confirmed cancellation, that’s chargeback territory: dispute the charge with your bank citing “subscription cancelled, merchant continued billing”. The yoink app also flags this automatically, it keeps watching your inbox after a confirmed cancellation and alerts you if CleanMyMac charges again.
How CleanMyMac will try to keep you
CleanMyMac may respond with a retention offer, a discount, a free month, or a downgrade to a cheaper tier. Don't engage with the counteroffer. Restate that you want a full cancellation and cite the consumer law again if they push back.
They’ll say: “The online cancel flow presents upgrade/upsell options and a discount offer to keep you before you reach the confirm screen.”
You say: Ignore the upgrade prompts and the 'stay for a discount' offer. Click straight through Cancel Subscription and keep confirming until you see the confirmation/Inactive status.
They’ll say: “The Cancel Subscription button is buried, some users only found it by opening the invoice/billing details under their subscription.”
You say: If you can't see the cancel button on the main account page, open your subscription's invoice or the Billing Details section in the Subscription Manager, the 'Cancel Subscription' link lives there.
They’ll say: “Support offers a renewal discount when you contact them about the charge instead of processing a refund.”
You say: If you actually want out, decline the retention discount and clearly restate that you're requesting cancellation and a refund of the initial purchase within the refund window.
They’ll say: “Email-only support with multi-day reply times can push you past the refund window.”
You say: Email support@macpaw.com immediately and put the request date in writing, your refund eligibility is judged from when you submitted the request, not when they reply. If they stall, escalate and cite your original timestamped email.
Your rights when cancelling
The law where you live is the strongest hook, lead with it when you contact the company.
United States
- FTC Click-to-Cancel Rule (2024+)Cancel must be as easy as sign-up.
The Federal Trade Commission’s Click-to-Cancel rule requires CleanMyMac to make cancelling at least as simple as signing up, same channel, same number of clicks. If they buried the cancel button or forced a phone call, they’re in violation; report to reportfraud.ftc.gov.
- California ARL (auto-renewal law)Renewal must be cancellable online.
California Business & Professions Code §17602 forces any company billing California residents on auto-renewal to provide an online cancel mechanism. Lawsuits have been won on this; companies often refund quickly when it’s cited.
Worldwide
- Card-issuer chargebackYour bank can reverse the charge.
Visa, Mastercard, and Amex all run chargeback schemes, “goods/services not as described” or “subscription not cancelled” are valid reason codes everywhere they operate. Your bank handles the dispute; CleanMyMac has ~45 days to defend.
Rights in other regions (United Kingdom, European Union)
United Kingdom
- Consumer Contracts Regulations 201314-day cooling-off on new subscriptions.
You can terminate any continuous service contract within 14 days of starting it and recover any payment, no questions asked. Applies regardless of CleanMyMac’s own policy.
- Consumer Rights Act 2015Services must be as described.
If CleanMyMac’s service was misrepresented or didn’t deliver what was promised, you have a statutory right to remedy (repair, refund, or price reduction) regardless of their terms.
European Union
- Consumer Rights Directive 2011/83/EU14-day right of withdrawal across all EU states.
EU-wide statutory right to withdraw from any distance-sold contract within 14 days. Mirrored into local law in every member state. CleanMyMac must honour it regardless of where they’re headquartered.
Delete your CleanMyMac account (not just cancel)
Cancelling stops the billing; deleting removes your account and personal data. Do them in that order, deleting an account with an active subscription can leave the billing running with no way to log in and stop it.
If there’s no delete option in CleanMyMac’s account settings, email support@macpaw.com with the subject Account deletion request, [your account email] and ask for your account and personal data to be erased under state privacy laws such as the CCPA. They’re typically required to act on it, most companies complete erasure within about 30 days, and you should ask for written confirmation when it’s done.
