The fastest way
To cancel bytemail, open the Mac app and go to Settings › Licence › Manage Subscription, or cancel on link.com, which handles billing through Stripe. Response time isn't published.
Or let yoink do it for you.

Bytemail won’t action a cancellation from an email alone, use the fastest channel above for the cancellation itself. This email still earns its place: it puts your cancellation date in writing (your evidence if they keep billing) and it’s where the refund request happens.

Cancellation Request, [your account email]Send this template
Hi Bytemail team, I'm writing to cancel the subscription on my account, [your account email]. Please treat this as formal notice of cancellation, effective from the end of the current billing period. Under the FTC's Click-to-Cancel rule, cancellation must be available through a channel as simple as the one I signed up through. Please confirm by reply that the subscription has been cancelled and that no further charges will be taken. Best, [your name]
Wait for confirmation
Wait 24 hours. If there's no response, send a polite one-line follow-up referencing the original request.
Bytemail plans you can cancel
- Monthly$3.99/mo
Starts with a 7-day free trial, one per person. Your card is taken when the trial starts and charged when it ends. The plan renews every month until you cancel in the app (Settings › Licence › Manage Subscription) or on link.com. The app keeps working until the end of the month you've paid for. Sales tax or VAT may be added on top.
- Yearly$39.90/yr
Starts with a 7-day free trial, then bills yearly. Renews every year until you cancel in the app or on link.com. Cancelling stops the next renewal, and the app keeps working until the end of the paid year. Sales tax or VAT may be added on top.
- Lifetime
One-time payment of US$99 for 5 devices (Mac, plus iPhone once it's released). There's no renewal, so nothing to cancel. The homepage says the lifetime licence is only sold until November 1, and only monthly or yearly plans after that. 'Lifetime' means for as long as bytemail is offered and maintained.
What happens to what you’ve already paid
bytemail sells only the app licence: a $3.99 monthly or $39.90 yearly subscription, or a $99 one-time lifetime licence. There are no other one-off charges. Refunds for all three are handled by email to hello@bytemailapp.com, sent from the address you bought with. The terms don't publish a fixed number of days, and a refunded licence key stops working. Cancelling a subscription only stops the next renewal: the app keeps working until the end of the period you've paid for, and the terms don't offer an automatic partial refund. Stripe (through Link) is the merchant of record and its name is the one on your statement, so legal withdrawal rights and card chargebacks go through that relationship.
“Refunds. If something isn't right, write to hello@bytemailapp.com from the address you bought with. A refunded purchase's licence key stops working. Any statutory right of withdrawal you have as a consumer applies in addition.”

Does Bytemail charge a cancellation fee?
We found no cancellation fee in Bytemail’s published terms. On a rolling plan you simply pay to the end of the current billing period and nothing after. If you’re inside a fixed minimum term, check your signup email for the end date, cancelling early is where fees usually hide.
What doesn’t work for cancelling Bytemail
Based on 6 sources, Reddit, app reviews, and direct testing. Skip these and save yourself the loop.
- ✕ Deleting the bytemail app or removing your mail accounts, The terms say a subscription renews automatically every month or year until you cancel. Deleting the app ends your use of it but doesn't stop billing. You have to cancel under Settings › Licence › Manage Subscription or on link.com.
- ✕ Looking for the subscription in Apple's App Store subscriptions, The Mac app is a direct download, and payments go through Stripe/Link rather than Apple. So a bytemail subscription won't appear in Apple ID subscriptions and can't be cancelled there.
- ✕ Searching your bank or card statement for 'bytemail', The terms say Stripe, through Link, is the merchant of record and its name appears on your statement. The charge may not mention bytemail, so people miss renewals.
- ✕ Calling a support phone line, bytemail doesn't publish a phone number. It's run by one developer, and the only contact channels listed are the email hello@bytemailapp.com and Discord.
- ✕ Expecting a partial refund just because you cancelled mid-cycle, The terms say the app keeps working until the end of the paid period after you cancel. They don't promise money back for the unused time. Any refund has to be requested by email.
Cancelled Bytemail but still being charged?
Three common reasons, in order of likelihood:
- The cancellation didn’t actually complete. If you never received a written confirmation from Bytemail, treat it as not cancelled. Email
hello@bytemailapp.comreferencing your original request date and ask for written confirmation plus a refund of any charge taken since. - You cancelled in the wrong place. Subscriptions started through the App Store or Google Play bill through Apple or Google, cancelling on Bytemail’s site doesn’t touch them. Check Settings → Subscriptions on iPhone, or Play Store → Payments & subscriptions on Android.
- Billing lag. A charge that was already in flight when you cancelled can still land a few days later. One trailing charge can be normal; two is not.
If they keep charging after a confirmed cancellation, that’s chargeback territory: dispute the charge with your bank citing “subscription cancelled, merchant continued billing”. The yoink app also flags this automatically, it keeps watching your inbox after a confirmed cancellation and alerts you if Bytemail charges again.
How Bytemail will try to keep you
Bytemail may respond with a retention offer, a discount, a free month, or a downgrade to a cheaper tier. Don't engage with the counteroffer. Restate that you want a full cancellation and cite the consumer law again if they push back.
They’ll say: “Urgency upsell to the lifetime licence: the homepage pushes 'Last chance to buy lifetime', with a countdown to November 1 and sold-out launch tiers.”
You say: If you want to stop paying, cancel the subscription first. A countdown isn't a reason to spend $99 on an app you're leaving. If you really do want lifetime, buy it separately and still cancel the monthly or yearly plan, because nothing says one replaces the other automatically.
They’ll say: “Card taken at trial start: the 7-day free trial takes your payment method upfront and charges automatically when it ends unless you cancel first.”
You say: Set a reminder for day 6, or cancel right after starting the trial under Settings › Licence › Manage Subscription. You keep the full trial either way.
They’ll say: “Merchant-of-record billing: Stripe/Link's name appears on statements instead of bytemail, so renewals are easy to overlook.”
You say: Look for 'Link' or 'Stripe' charges of $3.99 or $39.90 (plus tax). You can manage or cancel the subscription on link.com, or email hello@bytemailapp.com with the receipt Stripe sent you.
Your rights when cancelling
The law where you live is the strongest hook, lead with it when you contact the company.
United States
- FTC Click-to-Cancel Rule (2024+)Cancel must be as easy as sign-up.
The Federal Trade Commission’s Click-to-Cancel rule requires Bytemail to make cancelling at least as simple as signing up, same channel, same number of clicks. If they buried the cancel button or forced a phone call, they’re in violation; report to reportfraud.ftc.gov.
- California ARL (auto-renewal law)Renewal must be cancellable online.
California Business & Professions Code §17602 forces any company billing California residents on auto-renewal to provide an online cancel mechanism. Lawsuits have been won on this; companies often refund quickly when it’s cited.
Worldwide
- Card-issuer chargebackYour bank can reverse the charge.
Visa, Mastercard, and Amex all run chargeback schemes, “goods/services not as described” or “subscription not cancelled” are valid reason codes everywhere they operate. Your bank handles the dispute; Bytemail has ~45 days to defend.
Rights in other regions (United Kingdom, European Union)
United Kingdom
- Consumer Contracts Regulations 201314-day cooling-off on new subscriptions.
You can terminate any continuous service contract within 14 days of starting it and recover any payment, no questions asked. Applies regardless of Bytemail’s own policy.
- Consumer Rights Act 2015Services must be as described.
If Bytemail’s service was misrepresented or didn’t deliver what was promised, you have a statutory right to remedy (repair, refund, or price reduction) regardless of their terms.
European Union
- Consumer Rights Directive 2011/83/EU14-day right of withdrawal across all EU states.
EU-wide statutory right to withdraw from any distance-sold contract within 14 days. Mirrored into local law in every member state. Bytemail must honour it regardless of where they’re headquartered.
Delete your Bytemail account (not just cancel)
Cancelling stops the billing; deleting removes your account and personal data. Do them in that order, deleting an account with an active subscription can leave the billing running with no way to log in and stop it.
If there’s no delete option in Bytemail’s account settings, email hello@bytemailapp.com with the subject Account deletion request, [your account email] and ask for your account and personal data to be erased under state privacy laws such as the CCPA. They’re typically required to act on it, most companies complete erasure within about 30 days, and you should ask for written confirmation when it’s done.
Common questions about cancelling Bytemail
There are two official ways to cancel: 1. **In the app:** Settings › Licence › **Manage Subscription**. 2. **On link.com:** Stripe's Link service handles billing and lets you manage the subscription there. After you cancel, bytemail keeps working until the end of the month or year you've already paid for. No more renewals are charged. Deleting the app does **not** cancel billing. If you can't get either route to work, email **hello@bytemailapp.com** from the address you bought with and ask for the subscription to be cancelled. Keep the reply as proof.
Money-back questions (windows, pro-rata, chargebacks) are covered in the Bytemail refund guide. Need a human for something else entirely? The Bytemail contact guide lists every channel that actually answers.
