- Phone: Call +1 800 275 2273 and say “cancel my service”. Expect a retention pitch, decline it twice and hold firm.
- Email: Apple Music doesn’t process cancellations by email. Still worth sending one: it dates your cancellation request in writing, which matters for disputes and refunds.
Timing matters: Cancel at least 24 hours before a trial or renewal date. Cancelling a free trial early usually ends access immediately, and the trial can't be restarted. Paid plans keep access until the end of the billing period. July 2026 prices apply from your next billing date. Google Play-billed subscriptions have to be cancelled in Google Play or the Android app.
The email that backs it up
Apple Music won’t action a cancellation from an email alone, use the fastest channel above for the cancellation itself. This email still earns its place: it puts your cancellation date in writing (your evidence if they keep billing) and it’s where the refund request happens.

Cancellation Request, [your account email]Send this template
Hi Apple Music team, I'm writing to cancel the subscription on my account, [your account email]. Please treat this as formal notice of cancellation, effective from the end of the current billing period. Under the FTC's Click-to-Cancel rule, cancellation must be available through a channel as simple as the one I signed up through. Please confirm by reply that the subscription has been cancelled and that no further charges will be taken. Best, [your name]

Wait 24 hours. If there's no response, send a polite one-line follow-up referencing the original request.
Apple Music plans you can cancel
- Individual$11.99/mo
Since July 17, 2026, the price is $11.99 a month (it was $10.99). Existing subscribers pay the new price from their next billing date. If you cancel a paid plan, you keep access until the end of the current billing period.
- Family$19.99/mo
The plan covers up to 6 people through Family Sharing, and it went up from $16.99 in July 2026. Only the person who owns the subscription can cancel it. Family members can't cancel it for them.
- Student$6.99/mo
Only verified university students can get this plan, and it includes Apple TV. It went up from $5.99 in July 2026. You cancel it the same way as the Individual plan.
- Apple One Individual (bundle incl. Apple Music)$19.95/mo
If you get Apple Music through Apple One, cancel Apple One, or switch to a cheaper bundle, under Subscriptions. When Apple One starts billing you, Apple automatically cancels any separate Apple Music subscription. Check that both don't show up under Subscriptions.
- Apple One Family (bundle incl. Apple Music)$27.95/mo
This went up from $25.95 in July 2026. To stop it, cancel Apple One under Subscriptions.
- Apple One Premier (bundle incl. Apple Music)$39.95/mo
This went up from $37.95 in July 2026. To stop it, cancel Apple One under Subscriptions.
What happens to what you’ve already paid
Apple Music subscription charges, whether Individual, Family, Student or through Apple One, are refunded only on request at reportaproblem.apple.com. Choose 'I'd like to' → 'Request a refund', then pick the charge. Apple sends an update within 24 to 48 hours. Approved refunds go back to your original payment method. Cards can take up to 30 days to show it, and mobile-carrier billing up to 60 days. In the UK and EU, Apple's terms let you withdraw from the first subscription charge within 14 days without giving a reason. Renewals aren't covered, and outside the UK and EU every refund is at Apple's discretion. Cancelling doesn't give you a partial refund. It stops the next renewal, and paid access continues until the period ends. Songs and albums you bought from the iTunes Store go through the same refund tool but are a different kind of purchase. If Google Play bills you, Google Play's refund rules apply instead of Apple's.
“Right of withdrawal: If you choose to cancel your order, you may do so within fourteen (14) days of when you received your receipt, without giving any reason. Subscription services can only be cancelled following the initial subscription.”

Does Apple Music charge a cancellation fee?
We found no cancellation fee in Apple Music’s published terms. On a rolling plan you simply pay to the end of the current billing period and nothing after. If you’re inside a fixed minimum term, check your signup email for the end date, cancelling early is where fees usually hide.
What doesn’t work for cancelling Apple Music
Based on 5 sources, Reddit, app reviews, and direct testing. Skip these and save yourself the loop.
- ✕ Emailing Apple customer support to cancel, Apple has no customer-service email address. Support is phone, chat or an online form. Apple Music cancels only in your account settings, Settings on your device, or Google Play.
- ✕ Cancelling the free trial right away so you don't forget later, Apple's own trials end the moment you cancel. You lose the rest of the trial and can't get it back. Third-party apps, by contrast, let you keep the trial until its end date.
- ✕ Asking Apple to cancel or refund Apple Music billed through Google Play, If Google Play bills you, you can only cancel in the Apple Music Android app or at play.google.com. The refund goes through Google, not reportaproblem.apple.com.
- ✕ Using the UK/EU 14-day right of withdrawal on a renewal charge, Apple's terms say you can only withdraw from the first subscription charge, not from each automatic renewal.
- ✕ Cancelling a subscription that a family member pays for, You can't cancel a family member's subscription. The person whose Apple Account is on the receipt has to do it.
- ✕ Cancelling on the wrong Apple Account, If you can't see the subscription, it may be billed to another Apple Account. Search your email for 'receipt from Apple' to find out which one, then sign in to that account to cancel.
Cancelled Apple Music but still being charged?
Three common reasons, in order of likelihood:
- The cancellation didn’t actually complete. If you never received a written confirmation from Apple Music, treat it as not cancelled. Email
support@apple.comreferencing your original request date and ask for written confirmation plus a refund of any charge taken since. - You cancelled in the wrong place. Subscriptions started through the App Store or Google Play bill through Apple or Google, cancelling on Apple Music’s site doesn’t touch them. Check Settings → Subscriptions on iPhone, or Play Store → Payments & subscriptions on Android.
- Billing lag. A charge that was already in flight when you cancelled can still land a few days later. One trailing charge can be normal; two is not.
If they keep charging after a confirmed cancellation, that’s chargeback territory: dispute the charge with your bank citing “subscription cancelled, merchant continued billing”. The yoink app also flags this automatically, it keeps watching your inbox after a confirmed cancellation and alerts you if Apple Music charges again.
How Apple Music will try to keep you
Apple Music may respond with a retention offer, a discount, a free month, or a downgrade to a cheaper tier. Don't engage with the counteroffer. Restate that you want a full cancellation and cite the consumer law again if they push back.
They’ll say: “Apple Music trials end the moment you cancel, which pushes people to wait until the last day and then forget”
You say: Look up the renewal date under Subscriptions and set a reminder for 2 days before it. Apple says to cancel at least 24 hours before a trial ends. If a renewal has already gone through, ask for a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com straight away.
They’ll say: “The Manage Subscription page offers other plans next to the Cancel button”
You say: If you want to leave, scroll past the plan options and tap Cancel Subscription. When you see an 'Expires on [date]' message in red, the cancellation worked.
They’ll say: “Chat agents turn down refund requests”
You say: Make the request in writing. Use reportaproblem.apple.com first. For a first charge in the UK or EU, also send a withdrawal notice to rightofwithdrawal@apple.com with your Order ID. If you're still stuck, write to Apple's Executive Escalations team.
They’ll say: “Existing subscribers move to the July 2026 price on their next billing date”
You say: Check your renewal price under Subscriptions before the next billing date. If you don't want to pay the higher price, cancel at least a day before renewal.
Your rights when cancelling
The law where you live is the strongest hook, lead with it when you contact the company.
United States
- FTC Click-to-Cancel Rule (2024+)Cancel must be as easy as sign-up.
The Federal Trade Commission’s Click-to-Cancel rule requires Apple Music to make cancelling at least as simple as signing up, same channel, same number of clicks. If they buried the cancel button or forced a phone call, they’re in violation; report to reportfraud.ftc.gov.
- California ARL (auto-renewal law)Renewal must be cancellable online.
California Business & Professions Code §17602 forces any company billing California residents on auto-renewal to provide an online cancel mechanism. Lawsuits have been won on this; companies often refund quickly when it’s cited.
Worldwide
- Card-issuer chargebackYour bank can reverse the charge.
Visa, Mastercard, and Amex all run chargeback schemes, “goods/services not as described” or “subscription not cancelled” are valid reason codes everywhere they operate. Your bank handles the dispute; Apple Music has ~45 days to defend.
Rights in other regions (United Kingdom, European Union)
United Kingdom
- Consumer Contracts Regulations 201314-day cooling-off on new subscriptions.
You can terminate any continuous service contract within 14 days of starting it and recover any payment, no questions asked. Applies regardless of Apple Music’s own policy.
- Consumer Rights Act 2015Services must be as described.
If Apple Music’s service was misrepresented or didn’t deliver what was promised, you have a statutory right to remedy (repair, refund, or price reduction) regardless of their terms.
European Union
- Consumer Rights Directive 2011/83/EU14-day right of withdrawal across all EU states.
EU-wide statutory right to withdraw from any distance-sold contract within 14 days. Mirrored into local law in every member state. Apple Music must honour it regardless of where they’re headquartered.
Delete your Apple Music account (not just cancel)
Cancelling stops the billing; deleting removes your account and personal data. Do them in that order, deleting an account with an active subscription can leave the billing running with no way to log in and stop it.
If there’s no delete option in Apple Music’s account settings, email support@apple.com with the subject Account deletion request, [your account email] and ask for your account and personal data to be erased under state privacy laws such as the CCPA. They’re typically required to act on it, most companies complete erasure within about 30 days, and you should ask for written confirmation when it’s done.
