- Phone: Call +1-877-971-7669 and say “cancel my service”. Expect a retention pitch, decline it twice and hold firm.
- Online (fastest): Direct cancel flow: account.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com
- Email: PlayStation doesn’t process cancellations by email. Still worth sending one: it dates your cancellation request in writing, which matters for disputes and refunds.
Timing matters: Turning off auto-renew keeps benefits until the current billing period ends; do it before your renewal date to avoid the next charge. Refunds are only possible within 14 days of the initial purchase, not on auto-renewal charges.
The email that backs it up
PlayStation won’t action a cancellation from an email alone, use the fastest channel above for the cancellation itself. This email still earns its place: it puts your cancellation date in writing (your evidence if they keep billing) and it’s where the refund request happens.

Cancellation Request, [your account email]Send this template
Hi PlayStation team, I'm writing to cancel the subscription on my account, [your account email]. Please treat this as formal notice of cancellation, effective from the end of the current billing period. Under the FTC's Click-to-Cancel rule, cancellation must be available through a channel as simple as the one I signed up through. Please confirm by reply that the subscription has been cancelled and that no further charges will be taken. If your policy allows it, I'd also appreciate a pro-rata refund for the unused portion of the current period. Best, [your name]
Wait for confirmation
Wait 24 hours. If there's no response, send a polite one-line follow-up referencing the original request.
PlayStation plans you can cancel
- PlayStation Plus Essential$10.99/mo
Cancelling turns off auto-renew; access continues until the current billing period ends, then online multiplayer, cloud storage and monthly games lock.
- PlayStation Plus Extra$16.99/mo
Cancelling turns off auto-renew; the 400+ game catalog becomes inaccessible when the billing period ends.
- PlayStation Plus Premium$19.99/mo
Cancelling turns off auto-renew; classics catalog, cloud streaming and game trials end when the billing period expires.
PlayStation’s refund policy
PlayStation refunds a subscription only if you request it within 14 days of the initial sign-up, and only for that first payment, never for a recurring auto-renewal charge. If you've started using benefits (online play, monthly games, cloud storage) Sony reduces the refund pro-rata for what you've used. If a free trial was involved, the 14-day clock starts at the trial start, so a 7-day trial leaves only 7 days after your first charge. Refunds are paid within 10 days, normally to your original payment method or otherwise to your wallet.
“La demande de remboursement a été effectuée dans les 14 jours suivant l'inscription. La demande de remboursement concerne le paiement initial et non des frais récurrents.”

Does PlayStation charge a cancellation fee?
We found no cancellation fee in PlayStation’s published terms. On a rolling plan you simply pay to the end of the current billing period and nothing after. If you’re inside a fixed minimum term, check your signup email for the end date, cancelling early is where fees usually hide.
What doesn’t work for cancelling PlayStation
Based on 4 sources, Reddit, app reviews, and direct testing. Skip these and save yourself the loop.
- ✕ Emailing customer support to cancel, There is no cancellation email path. Sony retired its old support email address in favour of live chat and phone; cancellation is self-service (turn off auto-renew on web or console).
- ✕ Expecting a refund after an auto-renewal charge, Policy only refunds the initial purchase within 14 days, not recurring charges. Reddit/ResetEra users report chat and supervisors refusing refunds on auto-renewals, granting only occasional 'one-time exception' courtesy refunds.
- ✕ Requesting a refund after downloading or playing content, For games/DLC the refund is void once content is downloaded or streamed; for subscriptions, usage triggers a pro-rata deduction.
- ✕ Posting in the PlayStation community forum to reach support, The community forum is user-to-user only; PlayStation customer support does not officially read or respond to forum posts.
Cancelled PlayStation but still being charged?
Three common reasons, in order of likelihood:
- The cancellation didn’t actually complete. If you never received a written confirmation from PlayStation, treat it as not cancelled. Email
help@uk.playstation.comreferencing your original request date and ask for written confirmation plus a refund of any charge taken since. - You cancelled in the wrong place. Subscriptions started through the App Store or Google Play bill through Apple or Google, cancelling on PlayStation’s site doesn’t touch them. Check Settings → Subscriptions on iPhone, or Play Store → Payments & subscriptions on Android.
- Billing lag. A charge that was already in flight when you cancelled can still land a few days later. One trailing charge can be normal; two is not.
If they keep charging after a confirmed cancellation, that’s chargeback territory: dispute the charge with your bank citing “subscription cancelled, merchant continued billing”. The yoink app also flags this automatically, it keeps watching your inbox after a confirmed cancellation and alerts you if PlayStation charges again.
How PlayStation will try to keep you
PlayStation may respond with a retention offer, a discount, a free month, or a downgrade to a cheaper tier. Don't engage with the counteroffer. Restate that you want a full cancellation and cite the consumer law again if they push back.
They’ll say: “First-line chat/phone agent refuses the refund citing the 14-day, initial-purchase-only policy.”
You say: State the request in writing and ask them to escalate to a supervisor. Multiple users report the first agent says 'no' but a supervisor grants a one-time exception refund, cite that you cancelled immediately after the auto-renewal hit and did not use the service.
They’ll say: “Agent says auto-renewal charges are non-refundable, full stop.”
You say: Point to consumer-law rights that override the terms, and note the charge was an unwanted auto-renewal you cancelled the same day. If chat/phone stall, escalate to your card issuer or, in the UK/EU, to the relevant consumer body, reputational escalation frequently unsticks these.
They’ll say: “Offer to downgrade you to a cheaper tier instead of refunding.”
You say: Be aware a downgrade only applies at the NEXT renewal, not the current charge, so it does not resolve a refund on money already taken. Decline if your goal is money back now.
They’ll say: “Cost objection, 'you'll lose your catalog and monthly games'.”
You say: Cancelling only turns off auto-renew; you keep access until the period ends and claimed monthly games return if you ever resubscribe. Purchased games and discounted buys stay yours regardless.
Your rights when cancelling
The law where you live is the strongest hook, lead with it when you contact the company.
United States
- FTC Click-to-Cancel Rule (2024+)Cancel must be as easy as sign-up.
The Federal Trade Commission’s Click-to-Cancel rule requires PlayStation to make cancelling at least as simple as signing up, same channel, same number of clicks. If they buried the cancel button or forced a phone call, they’re in violation; report to reportfraud.ftc.gov.
- California ARL (auto-renewal law)Renewal must be cancellable online.
California Business & Professions Code §17602 forces any company billing California residents on auto-renewal to provide an online cancel mechanism. Lawsuits have been won on this; companies often refund quickly when it’s cited.
Worldwide
- Card-issuer chargebackYour bank can reverse the charge.
Visa, Mastercard, and Amex all run chargeback schemes, “goods/services not as described” or “subscription not cancelled” are valid reason codes everywhere they operate. Your bank handles the dispute; PlayStation has ~45 days to defend.
Rights in other regions (United Kingdom, European Union)
United Kingdom
- Consumer Contracts Regulations 201314-day cooling-off on new subscriptions.
You can terminate any continuous service contract within 14 days of starting it and recover any payment, no questions asked. Applies regardless of PlayStation’s own policy.
- Consumer Rights Act 2015Services must be as described.
If PlayStation’s service was misrepresented or didn’t deliver what was promised, you have a statutory right to remedy (repair, refund, or price reduction) regardless of their terms.
European Union
- Consumer Rights Directive 2011/83/EU14-day right of withdrawal across all EU states.
EU-wide statutory right to withdraw from any distance-sold contract within 14 days. Mirrored into local law in every member state. PlayStation must honour it regardless of where they’re headquartered.
Delete your PlayStation account (not just cancel)
Cancelling stops the billing; deleting removes your account and personal data. Do them in that order, deleting an account with an active subscription can leave the billing running with no way to log in and stop it.
If there’s no delete option in PlayStation’s account settings, email help@uk.playstation.com with the subject Account deletion request, [your account email] and ask for your account and personal data to be erased under state privacy laws such as the CCPA. They’re typically required to act on it, most companies complete erasure within about 30 days, and you should ask for written confirmation when it’s done.
Common questions about cancelling PlayStation
You keep everything you *bought* and any PS Plus discounted purchases, packs and avatars. What you lose are the **monthly games you claimed for free**, they become inaccessible when your billing period ends, but they stay in your library and reactivate if you resubscribe. You also lose online multiplayer and cloud storage access. Note cloud saves are generally retained for about six months after cancelling, so back up important save files if you don't plan to resubscribe soon.
Money-back questions (windows, pro-rata, chargebacks) are covered in the PlayStation refund guide. Need a human for something else entirely? The PlayStation contact guide lists every channel that actually answers.
