Timing matters: Cancelling stops renewal at the end of the current term. Refunds need a termination request within 14 days (monthly/quarterly) or 30 days (annual/biannual) of buying or renewing. Monthly plans renew with no reminder. Annual plans get an email about 30 days before renewal. App Store plans must be cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends.

Cancellation Request, [your account email]Send this template
Hi TotalCleaner team, I'm writing to cancel the subscription on my account, [your account email]. Please treat this as formal notice of cancellation, effective from the end of the current billing period. Under the FTC's Click-to-Cancel rule, cancellation must be available through a channel as simple as the one I signed up through. Please confirm by reply that the subscription has been cancelled and that no further charges will be taken. Best, [your name]

What happens to what you’ve already paid
For Total Cleaner subscriptions bought directly from the website, turning off auto-renewal never triggers a refund. You have to ask for immediate termination plus a refund. Annual and biannual plans: ask within 30 days of buying or renewing. Monthly and quarterly plans: ask within 14 days. Each add-on (such as Unlimited Devices or Identity Protection) needs its own termination and refund request within 14 days of activation or renewal. Refunds are full, not pro-rata, and access ends immediately. App Store and Google Play purchases are refunded by Apple or Google, not by Total Cleaner.
“If you wish to receive a refund, you must request that your subscription be terminated immediately, meaning your access to the Services will cease upon request.”

Does TotalCleaner charge a cancellation fee?
We found no cancellation fee in TotalCleaner’s published terms. On a rolling plan you simply pay to the end of the current billing period and nothing after. If you’re inside a fixed minimum term, check your signup email for the end date, cancelling early is where fees usually hide.
What doesn’t work for cancelling TotalCleaner
Based on 6 sources, Reddit, app reviews, and direct testing. Skip these and save yourself the loop.
- ✕ Turning off auto-renewal in the portal and expecting a refund, The brand's own terms and FAQ say cancelling only stops future billing. Your access continues and no refund is issued unless you separately ask for termination and a refund.
- ✕ Looking for the subscription in Google Play, Total Cleaner's support says subscriptions bought directly from them are not held through Google Play, so they won't appear there. Cancel at dashboard.totalcleaner.com instead.
- ✕ Relying on a bank refund or chargeback to end the subscription, Total Cleaner's support says a bank refund reverses the payment but does not close the subscription. It stays open and can bill again until you cancel it.
- ✕ Unsubscribing from marketing emails, The unsubscribe page says this does not affect the status of your paid Total Cleaner account.
- ✕ Cancelling one Total Security product (e.g. TotalAV) and assuming everything stops, Plans bought under the same email may show up under one login, but each subscription and add-on has to be cancelled separately.
- ✕ Logging in with a different email than the one you bought with, Users report their login isn't recognised. Support says this usually means the subscription is registered to another address, so check the welcome email for the right one.
Cancelled TotalCleaner but still being charged?
Three common reasons, in order of likelihood:
- The cancellation didn’t actually complete. If you never received a written confirmation from TotalCleaner, treat it as not cancelled. Email
cancel@totalcleaner.comreferencing your original request date and ask for written confirmation plus a refund of any charge taken since. - You cancelled in the wrong place. Subscriptions started through the App Store or Google Play bill through Apple or Google, cancelling on TotalCleaner’s site doesn’t touch them. Check Settings → Subscriptions on iPhone, or Play Store → Payments & subscriptions on Android.
- Billing lag. A charge that was already in flight when you cancelled can still land a few days later. One trailing charge can be normal; two is not.
If they keep charging after a confirmed cancellation, that’s chargeback territory: dispute the charge with your bank citing “subscription cancelled, merchant continued billing”. The yoink app also flags this automatically, it keeps watching your inbox after a confirmed cancellation and alerts you if TotalCleaner charges again.
How TotalCleaner will try to keep you
TotalCleaner may respond with a retention offer, a discount, a free month, or a downgrade to a cheaper tier. Don't engage with the counteroffer. Restate that you want a full cancellation and cite the consumer law again if they push back.
They’ll say: “A $1.99/£1.99 intro offer that renews at the full rate (users report £11.99 a month) without a clear warning”
You say: The intro price only covered my first term. I'm asking for immediate termination and a full refund of the renewal charge. I'm within the 14-day money-back window for monthly plans in your own Terms.
They’ll say: “Treating 'cancel' as auto-renew off only, so the user keeps access and gets no refund”
You say: Please don't just turn off auto-renewal. I'm asking for my subscription to be terminated immediately and refunded in full under Section 7 of your Terms.
They’ll say: “A security code sent to the registered email before any billing change can be made”
You say: I'm writing from the email address registered on the account. If you need a verification code, send it here. I won't accept delays caused by the verification step.
They’ll say: “Add-ons and extra products upsold during sign-up and billed separately”
You say: Please terminate and refund every add-on on my account (including Unlimited Devices, Identity Protection and any other extras), not just the main plan. Each one is within its 14-day window.
They’ll say: “Sending complainants to a web form (help.totalcleaner.com/trustpilot or the contact form) instead of replying by email”
You say: I'm also putting this request in writing by email for my records. Please confirm the termination and refund by reply to this email.
They’ll say: “No renewal reminder for monthly plans (their terms say monthly subscribers get no notice)”
You say: I got no renewal reminder before this charge. Please refund it under your money-back guarantee.
They’ll say: “Discounted renewal offers to keep subscribers (their promotional pricing page suggests contacting the team about discounts)”
You say: I'm not interested in a discount or a different plan. Please go ahead with termination and a full refund.
Your rights when cancelling
The law where you live is the strongest hook, lead with it when you contact the company.
United States
- FTC Click-to-Cancel Rule (2024+)Cancel must be as easy as sign-up.
The Federal Trade Commission’s Click-to-Cancel rule requires TotalCleaner to make cancelling at least as simple as signing up, same channel, same number of clicks. If they buried the cancel button or forced a phone call, they’re in violation; report to reportfraud.ftc.gov.
- California ARL (auto-renewal law)Renewal must be cancellable online.
California Business & Professions Code §17602 forces any company billing California residents on auto-renewal to provide an online cancel mechanism. Lawsuits have been won on this; companies often refund quickly when it’s cited.
Worldwide
- Card-issuer chargebackYour bank can reverse the charge.
Visa, Mastercard, and Amex all run chargeback schemes, “goods/services not as described” or “subscription not cancelled” are valid reason codes everywhere they operate. Your bank handles the dispute; TotalCleaner has ~45 days to defend.
Rights in other regions (United Kingdom, European Union)
United Kingdom
- Consumer Contracts Regulations 201314-day cooling-off on new subscriptions.
You can terminate any continuous service contract within 14 days of starting it and recover any payment, no questions asked. Applies regardless of TotalCleaner’s own policy.
- Consumer Rights Act 2015Services must be as described.
If TotalCleaner’s service was misrepresented or didn’t deliver what was promised, you have a statutory right to remedy (repair, refund, or price reduction) regardless of their terms.
European Union
- Consumer Rights Directive 2011/83/EU14-day right of withdrawal across all EU states.
EU-wide statutory right to withdraw from any distance-sold contract within 14 days. Mirrored into local law in every member state. TotalCleaner must honour it regardless of where they’re headquartered.
Delete your TotalCleaner account (not just cancel)
Cancelling stops the billing; deleting removes your account and personal data. Do them in that order, deleting an account with an active subscription can leave the billing running with no way to log in and stop it.
If there’s no delete option in TotalCleaner’s account settings, email cancel@totalcleaner.com with the subject Account deletion request, [your account email] and ask for your account and personal data to be erased under state privacy laws such as the CCPA. They’re typically required to act on it, most companies complete erasure within about 30 days, and you should ask for written confirmation when it’s done.
Common questions about cancelling TotalCleaner
If you bought on the website, log in at **dashboard.totalcleaner.com**, open **My Subscriptions** and click **Cancel Subscription** next to each plan. Total Cleaner emails a verification code to your registered address before it makes the change, and sends a confirmation email when the cancellation goes through. If you subscribed through the **App Store**, cancel in iPhone Settings > your name > Subscriptions. For **Google Play**, use Play Store > Payments & subscriptions. You can also call the US line on **+1 833-386-3587**. Remember that this only stops renewal; it does not get you a refund.
Money-back questions (windows, pro-rata, chargebacks) are covered in the TotalCleaner refund guide. Need a human for something else entirely? The TotalCleaner contact guide lists every channel that actually answers.
