The fastest way
Rocket Mortgage has no online cancel button. Call your banker or (800) 4-ROCKET (+1 800-476-2538), then confirm in writing to help@rocketmortgage.com with the subject 'Withdraw loan application #[loan number], cancel appraisal order'. To rescind a refinance, send written notice within 3 business days of closing. Rocket doesn't publish how long confirmation takes.
Or let yoink do it for you.

- Phone (fastest): Call +1 800-476-2538 and say “cancel my service”. Expect a retention pitch, decline it twice and hold firm.
- Post: To withdraw an application, call your banker or (800) 4-ROCKET, then follow up in writing to help@rocketmortgage.com as a paper trail. Rescinding a refinance or home equity loan after closing must be done IN WRITING using the Notice of Right to Cancel in your closing package, delivered or postmarked by midnight of the 3rd business day. Send it trackably.. Send it tracked so you can prove delivery.
- Email: Rocket Mortgage doesn’t process cancellations by email. Still worth sending one: it dates your cancellation request in writing, which matters for disputes and refunds.
Timing matters: Cancel before the appraisal is ordered or performed, otherwise expect to lose that fee (reports cite $500, $700 including a transfer charge). The rescission window is 3 business days after signing, Saturdays count, primary residences only, and never for purchase loans.
The email that backs it up
Rocket Mortgage won’t action a cancellation from an email alone, use the fastest channel above for the cancellation itself. This email still earns its place: it puts your cancellation date in writing (your evidence if they keep billing) and it’s where the refund request happens.

Cancellation Request, [your account email]Send this template
Hi Rocket Mortgage team, I'm writing to cancel the subscription on my account, [your account email]. Please treat this as formal notice of cancellation, effective from the end of the current billing period. Under the FTC's Click-to-Cancel rule, cancellation must be available through a channel as simple as the one I signed up through. Please confirm by reply that the subscription has been cancelled and that no further charges will be taken. Best, [your name]

What happens to what you’ve already paid
Rocket Mortgage sells loans, not a subscription, so there is no general refund window. REFINANCES and HOME EQUITY LOANS on a primary residence can be rescinded in writing within 3 business days of closing, and the fees you paid come back. PURCHASE LOANS have no rescission right after closing. If you withdraw an APPLICATION before closing, the appraisal fee is usually kept once the appraisal is done, though unperformed appraisals should be refunded. SERVICING charges (escrow overages, duplicate payments, PMI) are a separate matter and are refunded through servicing at (800) 4-ROCKET.
“Remember, Federal law provides a 3-business-day right of rescission grace period after closing, giving you time to cancel the refinance if needed.”

Does Rocket Mortgage charge a cancellation fee?
We found no cancellation fee in Rocket Mortgage’s published terms. On a rolling plan you simply pay to the end of the current billing period and nothing after. If you’re inside a fixed minimum term, check your signup email for the end date, cancelling early is where fees usually hide.
What doesn’t work for cancelling Rocket Mortgage
Based on 6 sources, Reddit, app reviews, and direct testing. Skip these and save yourself the loop.
- ✕ Asking for the appraisal fee back after the appraisal has been completed, Borrowers who withdrew after the appraisal report being told the fee is non-refundable, because the service was already performed.
- ✕ Telling your banker verbally to cancel and assuming it's done, One reviewer asked to cancel a refinance, but the appraiser came anyway and Rocket then charged $700 to transfer the appraisal. Without a written record, you can't prove when you cancelled.
- ✕ Cancelling or editing the application on the website, Borrowers report the online dashboard won't let them cancel or edit an in-process application. You have to reach a person.
- ✕ Trying to reach a person through the automated phone menu, Several complaints describe an AI phone system that loops endlessly. Callers tried multiple Rocket numbers and never got a live agent.
- ✕ Using the 3-day right of rescission on a home purchase loan, Federal rescission only covers refinances, home equity loans and HELOCs on a primary residence. It does not cover purchase loans, second homes or investment properties.
Cancelled Rocket Mortgage but still being charged?
Three common reasons, in order of likelihood:
- The cancellation didn’t actually complete. If you never received a written confirmation from Rocket Mortgage, treat it as not cancelled. Email
help@rocketmortgage.comreferencing your original request date and ask for written confirmation plus a refund of any charge taken since. - You cancelled in the wrong place. Subscriptions started through the App Store or Google Play bill through Apple or Google, cancelling on Rocket Mortgage’s site doesn’t touch them. Check Settings → Subscriptions on iPhone, or Play Store → Payments & subscriptions on Android.
- Billing lag. A charge that was already in flight when you cancelled can still land a few days later. One trailing charge can be normal; two is not.
If they keep charging after a confirmed cancellation, that’s chargeback territory: dispute the charge with your bank citing “subscription cancelled, merchant continued billing”. The yoink app also flags this automatically, it keeps watching your inbox after a confirmed cancellation and alerts you if Rocket Mortgage charges again.
How Rocket Mortgage will try to keep you
Rocket Mortgage may respond with a retention offer, a discount, a free month, or a downgrade to a cheaper tier. Don't engage with the counteroffer. Restate that you want a full cancellation and cite the consumer law again if they push back.
They’ll say: “Your banker keeps the file moving (orders the appraisal or title work) after you say you want to stop.”
You say: Put the withdrawal in writing to your banker and to help@rocketmortgage.com. Include the date and time you first asked to cancel, and say you do not authorise any further third-party services or charges. Ask for written confirmation that the appraisal order is cancelled.
They’ll say: “Saying the appraisal or upfront fee is non-refundable.”
You say: Ask for an itemised list of fees paid and the appraisal completion date. If no appraisal was done, ask for a full refund. Under federal TRID rules, a lender can't charge fees other than a credit report fee before you receive the Loan Estimate and say you intend to proceed.
They’ll say: “Charging a large fee (reported at $700) to transfer the appraisal to another lender.”
You say: You're entitled to a copy of any appraisal done on your application, even if the loan doesn't close. Ask for the report in writing. If the appraisal was done after you asked to cancel, ask for the fee and any transfer charge to be waived.
They’ll say: “An AI phone menu that loops instead of reaching a human.”
You say: Call Client Relations at 1-800-863-4332, or the existing-client line 1-800-603-1955 (reported path: press 2, then 7, then 4, then stay on the line). Ask for a case reference number on every call.
They’ll say: “Complaints stall until they're made public.”
You say: Rocket's Client Relations and social media advocates answer public reviews and give out direct inboxes. A short factual public review often gets a named contact. As a parallel step, a complaint to the CFPB or your state mortgage regulator gets a formal reply; Rocket is reported to answer about 99.5% of CFPB complaints on time.
They’ll say: “Autopay can't be turned off online after a servicing transfer.”
You say: Send written notice revoking autopay authorisation to the current servicer, with your loan number. Under the Electronic Fund Transfer Act, they must stop future drafts once you withdraw consent. Also tell your bank to stop the debit.
Your rights when cancelling
The law where you live is the strongest hook, lead with it when you contact the company.
Worldwide
- Card-issuer chargebackYour bank can reverse the charge.
Visa, Mastercard, and Amex all run chargeback schemes, “goods/services not as described” or “subscription not cancelled” are valid reason codes everywhere they operate. Your bank handles the dispute; Rocket Mortgage has ~45 days to defend.
Delete your Rocket Mortgage account (not just cancel)
Cancelling stops the billing; deleting removes your account and personal data. Do them in that order, deleting an account with an active subscription can leave the billing running with no way to log in and stop it.
If there’s no delete option in Rocket Mortgage’s account settings, email help@rocketmortgage.com with the subject Account deletion request, [your account email] and ask for your account and personal data to be erased under state privacy laws such as the CCPA. They’re typically required to act on it, most companies complete erasure within about 30 days, and you should ask for written confirmation when it’s done.
Common questions about cancelling Rocket Mortgage
There's no cancel button in the Rocket dashboard. Call your banker directly, or **(800) 4-ROCKET** (Mon, Fri 8:30am, 9pm ET, Sat 9am, 4pm ET) if the loan is in process, or **(888) 452-8179** for new loans. Then email **help@rocketmortgage.com** and your banker with your loan number and a clear line: *'I withdraw my application effective [date]. Do not order or perform any further services.'* Ask them to confirm in writing that the appraisal and title orders are cancelled. A mortgage application isn't a binding contract, so you can walk away at any point before closing.
Money-back questions (windows, pro-rata, chargebacks) are covered in the Rocket Mortgage refund guide. Need a human for something else entirely? The Rocket Mortgage contact guide lists every channel that actually answers.
