Cancellation Request, [your account email]Send this template
Hi Retell AI team, I'm writing to cancel the subscription on my account, [your account email]. Please treat this as formal notice of cancellation, effective from the end of the current billing period. Under the FTC's Click-to-Cancel rule, cancellation must be available through a channel as simple as the one I signed up through. Please confirm by reply that the subscription has been cancelled and that no further charges will be taken. If your policy allows it, I'd also appreciate a pro-rata refund for the unused portion of the current period. Best, [your name]
Wait for confirmation
Wait 24 hours. If there's no response, send a polite one-line follow-up referencing the original request.
Retell AI plans you can cancel
- Pay as you go
No fixed monthly fee, $0.07, $0.31 per voice minute plus $0.002+/msg for chat. There is no subscription to cancel, but monthly line items (phone numbers, extra knowledge bases, extra concurrency) keep billing until you release them or delete the workspace.
- Enterprise Plan
Custom pricing under an MSA/DPA; Retell's docs tell enterprise and custom-plan customers to contact support to confirm no recurring charges remain rather than self-serve.
- Retell Phone Number (monthly line item)$2.00/mo
Billed monthly until released. Remove it from the Phone Numbers page in the dashboard or call the Delete Phone Number API, this is the single most common source of 'I cancelled but still got charged $2'.
- Extra Knowledge Base (beyond 10 free)$8.00/mo
First 10 knowledge bases are free; additional ones bill monthly until deleted.
- Extra Concurrency (active calls)$8.00/mo
First 20 concurrent calls are free; each extra concurrency slot bills monthly until removed.
- Verified Phone Number$10.00/mo
$10 per phone number per month, remove the verified number to stop the charge.
- Retell SMS$20.00/mo
$20/month unless you use custom telephony SMS; disable it before the cycle ends.
What happens to what you’ve already paid
Two different charge types, two different outcomes. Per-minute call/chat usage and prepaid credits are the non-refundable side: Retell's terms say all fees are non-refundable except where law requires, and its billing docs state credits never expire but are non-refundable once purchased. The monthly subscription line items, phone numbers ($2), extra knowledge bases ($8), extra concurrency ($8), verified numbers ($10), run on a 1st-to-end-of-month cycle and are prorated for the portion of the month they were active, so releasing them mid-month reduces the bill rather than refunding it. Deleting a workspace still generates a final invoice for usage up to the deletion date, which remains due. Accidental charges (a number bought and deleted the same day, an auto-recharge that fired with auto-recharge off) are handled case-by-case via support@retellai.com or the community billing forum, not by a stated policy window.
“All fees are non-refundable except as required by law or as otherwise expressly provided for in these Terms.”

Does Retell AI charge a cancellation fee?
Retell AI’s terms mention conditions worth checking before you cancel, see the plan notes and policy quote above for the specifics we found. In general: rolling monthly plans end at the period you’ve already paid for with nothing extra to pay, while minimum-term or contract plans can carry an early-exit charge until the term ends.
What doesn’t work for cancelling Retell AI
Based on 7 sources, Reddit, app reviews, and direct testing. Skip these and save yourself the loop.
- ✕ Just stopping usage and assuming billing stops, Retell's docs are explicit that numbers purchased through Retell are billed monthly until released, and extra knowledge bases bill monthly until deleted. Forum users report being charged $2/month for months after they stopped using the platform.
- ✕ Letting the credit balance hit zero, A zero balance blocks new calls but does not remove the monthly subscription line items, and the card stays on file for the next invoice.
- ✕ Turning auto recharge off and trusting it, A recent billing thread reports a client being charged a $100 recharge with Auto Recharge switched off; the poster had to ask support what setting caused it.
- ✕ Trying to delete the workspace with an open/past-due invoice, Retell's docs require you to settle outstanding invoices and stop ongoing usage before deletion, and a final invoice is generated and charged for usage up to the deletion date.
- ✕ Relying on the in-dashboard delete flow alone, A community thread titled 'Delete account is a scam' shows the deletion flow erroring out, with the user having to ask staff to delete the workspace manually.
- ✕ Asking for cancellation on Discord, A user requesting cancellation of recurring $2 phone-number charges said they tried Discord and got no help, then had to post on the support forum.
- ✕ Requesting a refund on purchased credits, Billing docs state credits never expire but are non-refundable once purchased, argue unused-balance return under consumer law rather than under the policy.
- ✕ Waiting for a cancellation confirmation email, There is no documented cancellation confirmation; the only artefacts are the workspace-deleted state and the final invoice, so you must request written confirmation yourself.
Cancelled Retell AI but still being charged?
Three common reasons, in order of likelihood:
- The cancellation didn’t actually complete. If you never received a written confirmation from Retell AI, treat it as not cancelled. Email
support@retellai.comreferencing your original request date and ask for written confirmation plus a refund of any charge taken since. - You cancelled in the wrong place. Subscriptions started through the App Store or Google Play bill through Apple or Google, cancelling on Retell AI’s site doesn’t touch them. Check Settings → Subscriptions on iPhone, or Play Store → Payments & subscriptions on Android.
- Billing lag. A charge that was already in flight when you cancelled can still land a few days later. One trailing charge can be normal; two is not.
If they keep charging after a confirmed cancellation, that’s chargeback territory: dispute the charge with your bank citing “subscription cancelled, merchant continued billing”. The yoink app also flags this automatically, it keeps watching your inbox after a confirmed cancellation and alerts you if Retell AI charges again.
How Retell AI will try to keep you
Retell AI may respond with a retention offer, a discount, a free month, or a downgrade to a cheaper tier. Don't engage with the counteroffer. Restate that you want a full cancellation and cite the consumer law again if they push back.
They’ll say: “Exit is gated behind settling invoices first, deletion is blocked or leaves a due final invoice, so users keep the account open and keep accruing line items.”
You say: Ask support to freeze the account for billing purposes while the disputed invoice is reviewed: 'Please release all phone numbers, extra knowledge bases and concurrency on org [ID] today and confirm in writing that no further monthly items are attached. Any disputed line item should not block closure.'
They’ll say: “Refund and cancellation requests are pushed into a public community forum thread where they can sit unanswered.”
You say: Move it to email and create a deadline: 'Emailing support@retellai.com as the address given for billing complaints in your Terms. Please respond within 5 business days; otherwise I will raise a card chargeback for the disputed amount.' Include org ID, invoice numbers and dates, the format staff ask for in the forum.
They’ll say: “Card is captured at signup and billing switches to it automatically the moment free credits deplete, so charges start without a second confirmation step.”
You say: 'Please remove and do not re-charge the payment method on file for org [ID], and confirm the card has been detached. Disable auto recharge at the account level, not just the toggle.'
They’ll say: “'All fees are non-refundable' is quoted back at consumers as if it were absolute.”
You say: Quote their own carve-out: the clause ends 'except as required by law'. For a mistaken same-day purchase or an unauthorised auto-recharge, ask for either a refund to the original payment method or, at minimum, account credit, the same remedy other users have requested for $2 numbers and $100 recharges.
They’ll say: “Support redirects account-closure questions to the enterprise/custom-plan track ('contact support to confirm no recurring charges remain').”
You say: 'I am on pay-as-you-go, not enterprise. Confirm in one reply: (1) all subscription items released, (2) final invoice amount, (3) date the workspace is deleted.' Ask for all three in a single message so there is one dated paper trail.
Your rights when cancelling
The law where you live is the strongest hook, lead with it when you contact the company.
United States
- FTC Click-to-Cancel Rule (2024+)Cancel must be as easy as sign-up.
The Federal Trade Commission’s Click-to-Cancel rule requires Retell AI to make cancelling at least as simple as signing up, same channel, same number of clicks. If they buried the cancel button or forced a phone call, they’re in violation; report to reportfraud.ftc.gov.
- California ARL (auto-renewal law)Renewal must be cancellable online.
California Business & Professions Code §17602 forces any company billing California residents on auto-renewal to provide an online cancel mechanism. Lawsuits have been won on this; companies often refund quickly when it’s cited.
Worldwide
- Card-issuer chargebackYour bank can reverse the charge.
Visa, Mastercard, and Amex all run chargeback schemes, “goods/services not as described” or “subscription not cancelled” are valid reason codes everywhere they operate. Your bank handles the dispute; Retell AI has ~45 days to defend.
Rights in other regions (United Kingdom, European Union)
United Kingdom
- Consumer Contracts Regulations 201314-day cooling-off on new subscriptions.
You can terminate any continuous service contract within 14 days of starting it and recover any payment, no questions asked. Applies regardless of Retell AI’s own policy.
- Consumer Rights Act 2015Services must be as described.
If Retell AI’s service was misrepresented or didn’t deliver what was promised, you have a statutory right to remedy (repair, refund, or price reduction) regardless of their terms.
European Union
- Consumer Rights Directive 2011/83/EU14-day right of withdrawal across all EU states.
EU-wide statutory right to withdraw from any distance-sold contract within 14 days. Mirrored into local law in every member state. Retell AI must honour it regardless of where they’re headquartered.
Delete your Retell AI account (not just cancel)
Cancelling stops the billing; deleting removes your account and personal data. Do them in that order, deleting an account with an active subscription can leave the billing running with no way to log in and stop it.
If there’s no delete option in Retell AI’s account settings, email support@retellai.com with the subject Account deletion request, [your account email] and ask for your account and personal data to be erased under state privacy laws such as the CCPA. They’re typically required to act on it, most companies complete erasure within about 30 days, and you should ask for written confirmation when it’s done.
Common questions about cancelling Retell AI
There is no cancel button, because pay-as-you-go has no fixed monthly fee. Retell's terms say that to cancel you must **delete your workspace or remove all subscription-based items (e.g., phone numbers) before the end of the current Subscription Period**, otherwise the services renew and you owe the renewal fees. In practice: stop all running calls, release every Retell phone number from the Phone Numbers page, delete knowledge bases beyond the free 10, drop paid concurrency, settle open invoices, then Settings → Workspace → General → ⋯ → Delete. Email support@retellai.com if the delete flow errors.
Money-back questions (windows, pro-rata, chargebacks) are covered in the Retell AI refund guide. Need a human for something else entirely? The Retell AI contact guide lists every channel that actually answers.
