Nomad eSIM plans you can cancel
- Nomad Pass (Europe subscription, 1 GB every 30 days)$3.00/mo
Monthly subscription that renews every 30 days from the date you signed up. Cancel in the Nomad app under Manage > Nomad Pass Details, tap the arrow next to Payment (or use My eSIM on the website). There's no termination fee. Your 1 GB base data keeps working until the current 30-day cycle ends, but the 15% add-on discount stops straight away and you can no longer buy add-ons for that eSIM.
- Local & Regional Prepaid eSIM (e.g. Europe 10 GB / 30 days)
A one-off prepaid purchase (Europe 10 GB / 30 days is about USD 23; 1 GB / 7 days plans start around USD 4). It doesn't auto-renew. The plan ends when the data runs out or the validity period expires, whichever comes first. You can cancel an unused order in the app under Profile > Help Center > Other Issues > Cancel Order.
- Unlimited Plans (e.g. USA Unlimited 3 days)
One-off purchase (USA Unlimited for 3 days is about USD 11). It doesn't auto-renew.
- Global-EX Long-Term (e.g. 10 GB / 180 days)
One-off purchase (about USD 39 for 10 GB over 180 days; 365-day options also exist). It doesn't auto-renew.
- Free Trial eSIM (1 GB / 3 days, new users)$0.00/mo
Free and no card is needed, so nothing renews and nothing needs cancelling. If you don't use it, the trial activates automatically 15 days after you redeem it. Redeeming it makes you ineligible for other first-time promotions.
- Nomad Membership (free loyalty tiers)$0.00/mo
A free five-tier loyalty programme (Traveler to Elite) with points back and perks. There's no recurring charge, so there's nothing to cancel.
What happens to what you’ve already paid
These rules cover one-off eSIM data plans. Within 30 days of purchase, an eSIM you haven't installed or activated may get a full refund. Once activated, you can only get a partial refund for unused data, and only if Nomad verifies a network or technical failure. You get nothing back if you delete a single-use eSIM before asking, or if the plan was bought with a discount code and is already installed. One Nomad help article says cash refunds on uninstalled eSIMs must be requested within 3 days, so ask early. The Europe Nomad Pass subscription, all Unlimited plans, UK Voice plans and the Thailand 10-day 50GB plan can't be refunded. Refunds go to Nomad Points by default (instant). Choose your original payment method if you want cash, which takes 2 to 5 business days.
“All refund requests should be made within 30 days from the date of purchase - requests made after this time period will not be considered.”

Does Nomad eSIM charge a cancellation fee?
Nomad eSIM’s terms mention conditions worth checking before you cancel, see the plan notes and policy quote above for the specifics we found. In general: rolling monthly plans end at the period you’ve already paid for with nothing extra to pay, while minimum-term or contract plans can carry an early-exit charge until the term ends.
What doesn’t work for cancelling Nomad eSIM
Based on 9 sources, Reddit, app reviews, and direct testing. Skip these and save yourself the loop.
- ✕ Deleting the eSIM from your phone settings to 'cancel' it, If you remove a single-use eSIM before asking for a refund, Nomad's policy says it can't refund you or give you a replacement eSIM. Keep the eSIM installed until the refund is approved.
- ✕ Asking for a refund more than 30 days after purchase, The policy says requests made after 30 days from purchase will not be considered, even if the eSIM was never used.
- ✕ Asking for a refund on an Unlimited plan, UK Voice plan or the Nomad Pass, The policy lists these as non-refundable exceptions to the standard rules.
- ✕ Asking for a refund on an activated plan just because you didn't need it, Once activated, a plan counts as used. A partial refund only happens if Nomad can verify a network or technical failure and you've used little data.
- ✕ Accepting the default refund without picking a method, Nomad Points are the default refund option. If you don't specifically ask for your original payment method, you get store credit instead of cash.
- ✕ Asking for a refund on an installed plan you bought with a promo code, Purchases made with a discount code become non-refundable once the plan is installed or activated.
- ✕ Asking to switch or upgrade to a different plan, Nomad doesn't allow direct switching or upgrading between eSIM plans. You have to get the old plan refunded (if eligible) and buy a new one.
Cancelled Nomad eSIM but still being charged?
Three common reasons, in order of likelihood:
- The cancellation didn’t actually complete. If you never received a written confirmation from Nomad eSIM, treat it as not cancelled. Email
support@getnomad.appreferencing your original request date and ask for written confirmation plus a refund of any charge taken since. - You cancelled in the wrong place. Subscriptions started through the App Store or Google Play bill through Apple or Google, cancelling on Nomad eSIM’s site doesn’t touch them. Check Settings → Subscriptions on iPhone, or Play Store → Payments & subscriptions on Android.
- Billing lag. A charge that was already in flight when you cancelled can still land a few days later. One trailing charge can be normal; two is not.
If they keep charging after a confirmed cancellation, that’s chargeback territory: dispute the charge with your bank citing “subscription cancelled, merchant continued billing”. The yoink app also flags this automatically, it keeps watching your inbox after a confirmed cancellation and alerts you if Nomad eSIM charges again.
How Nomad eSIM will try to keep you
Nomad eSIM may respond with a retention offer, a discount, a free month, or a downgrade to a cheaper tier. Don't engage with the counteroffer. Restate that you want a full cancellation and cite the consumer law again if they push back.
They’ll say: “Refunding to Nomad Points (store credit) instead of your card”
You say: Please refund this to my original payment method, not Nomad Points. Your refund policy lets me choose between the two.
They’ll say: “Rejecting a partial refund because 'data usage is too high to show a service problem'”
You say: I've attached screenshots showing no service or failed connections, with timestamps and locations. Your policy allows a partial refund for unused data when a network or technical failure is verified. Please check the network logs for my eSIM and refund the unused balance.
They’ll say: “Troubleshooting loops in chat (repeated questions, 'get closer to a tower') instead of fixing the problem”
You say: I've already done the standard troubleshooting. Please escalate ticket [#] and either confirm a refund for the unused data or explain in writing which part of the refund policy you're using to refuse it.
They’ll say: “Offering a replacement eSIM instead of a refund”
You say: Thanks, but I no longer need the service. Please process a refund under your 30-day refund policy instead of a replacement.
They’ll say: “Refusing with general wording like 'the services can have their own rules'”
You say: Please tell me which clause of your published refund policy applies to order [#]. My request is within 30 days and the eSIM was [not installed / did not work because of a network failure]. If this isn't resolved I'll raise a dispute with my card issuer for a service that wasn't delivered.
Your rights when cancelling
The law where you live is the strongest hook, lead with it when you contact the company.
United States
- FTC Click-to-Cancel Rule (2024+)Cancel must be as easy as sign-up.
The Federal Trade Commission’s Click-to-Cancel rule requires Nomad eSIM to make cancelling at least as simple as signing up, same channel, same number of clicks. If they buried the cancel button or forced a phone call, they’re in violation; report to reportfraud.ftc.gov.
- California ARL (auto-renewal law)Renewal must be cancellable online.
California Business & Professions Code §17602 forces any company billing California residents on auto-renewal to provide an online cancel mechanism. Lawsuits have been won on this; companies often refund quickly when it’s cited.
Worldwide
- Card-issuer chargebackYour bank can reverse the charge.
Visa, Mastercard, and Amex all run chargeback schemes, “goods/services not as described” or “subscription not cancelled” are valid reason codes everywhere they operate. Your bank handles the dispute; Nomad eSIM has ~45 days to defend.
Rights in other regions (United Kingdom, European Union)
United Kingdom
- Consumer Contracts Regulations 201314-day cooling-off on new subscriptions.
You can terminate any continuous service contract within 14 days of starting it and recover any payment, no questions asked. Applies regardless of Nomad eSIM’s own policy.
- Consumer Rights Act 2015Services must be as described.
If Nomad eSIM’s service was misrepresented or didn’t deliver what was promised, you have a statutory right to remedy (repair, refund, or price reduction) regardless of their terms.
European Union
- Consumer Rights Directive 2011/83/EU14-day right of withdrawal across all EU states.
EU-wide statutory right to withdraw from any distance-sold contract within 14 days. Mirrored into local law in every member state. Nomad eSIM must honour it regardless of where they’re headquartered.
Delete your Nomad eSIM account (not just cancel)
Cancelling stops the billing; deleting removes your account and personal data. Do them in that order, deleting an account with an active subscription can leave the billing running with no way to log in and stop it.
If there’s no delete option in Nomad eSIM’s account settings, email support@getnomad.app with the subject Account deletion request, [your account email] and ask for your account and personal data to be erased under state privacy laws such as the CCPA. They’re typically required to act on it, most companies complete erasure within about 30 days, and you should ask for written confirmation when it’s done.
Common questions about cancelling Nomad eSIM
Yes. An eSIM that was never installed or activated is the easiest case. Nomad's policy says it may be fully refundable if you ask within 30 days of purchase. One Nomad help article says **cash** refunds on uninstalled eSIMs need to be requested within **three days**, so ask as soon as you know you won't need it. When it's approved, choose your original payment method if you want money back rather than Nomad Points.
Money-back questions (windows, pro-rata, chargebacks) are covered in the Nomad eSIM refund guide. Need a human for something else entirely? The Nomad eSIM contact guide lists every channel that actually answers.
