Cancellation Request, [your account email]Send this template
Hi Mixpanel team, I'm writing to cancel the subscription on my account, [your account email]. Please treat this as formal notice of cancellation, effective from the end of the current billing period. Under the FTC's Click-to-Cancel rule, cancellation must be available through a channel as simple as the one I signed up through. Please confirm by reply that the subscription has been cancelled and that no further charges will be taken. If your policy allows it, I'd also appreciate a pro-rata refund for the unused portion of the current period. Best, [your name]
Wait for confirmation
Wait 24 hours. If there's no response, send a polite one-line follow-up referencing the original request.

Mixpanel’s refund policy
Mixpanel does not offer a general money-back window. Under the Master Services Agreement, the only contractual refund is a pro-rata refund of pre-paid fees if Mixpanel materially breaches its warranty and fails to fix it within a reasonable time after written notice. In practice, a downgrade stops future billing but does not refund the current term, you keep paid access until the term ends, then drop to Free. Outside that, refunds for accidental upgrades or overages are discretionary and require contacting support@mixpanel.com.
“Customer's sole and exclusive remedy shall be to terminate the Agreement and have Mixpanel refund to Customer the pro-rata unused portion of any pre-paid fees applicable to the remaining portion of the applicable Subscription Term following the effective date of termination.”

Does Mixpanel charge a cancellation fee?
Mixpanel’s terms mention conditions worth checking before you cancel, see the plan notes and policy quote above for the specifics we found. In general: rolling monthly plans end at the period you’ve already paid for with nothing extra to pay, while minimum-term or contract plans can carry an early-exit charge until the term ends.
What doesn’t work for cancelling Mixpanel
Based on 6 sources, Reddit, app reviews, and direct testing. Skip these and save yourself the loop.
- ✕ Deleting your tracking SDK to stop billing, Billing is tied to your subscription, not event volume. Removing the SDK stops events but the subscription still renews until you formally downgrade.
- ✕ Closing the browser tab on the downgrade flow when it errors out, Public reports (e.g. Theo Browne on X) confirm the downgrade page can error mid-flow; you must retry or email support to confirm cancellation.
- ✕ Asking a non-Owner teammate to cancel, Only users with 'Owner' or 'Billing Admin' permissions can edit, downgrade or cancel the plan.
- ✕ Requesting a refund for unused months mid-term, Terms only grant pro-rata refunds for unremedied material breach. Standard mid-term cancellations forfeit the rest of the paid term.
- ✕ Chargeback as a first move, Mixpanel's terms list valid charges (renewals, overages, add-ons). A chargeback without first emailing support risks losing the dispute and account suspension.
Cancelled Mixpanel but still being charged?
Three common reasons, in order of likelihood:
- The cancellation didn’t actually complete. If you never received a written confirmation from Mixpanel, treat it as not cancelled. Email
support@mixpanel.comreferencing your original request date and ask for written confirmation plus a refund of any charge taken since. - You cancelled in the wrong place. Subscriptions started through the App Store or Google Play bill through Apple or Google, cancelling on Mixpanel’s site doesn’t touch them. Check Settings → Subscriptions on iPhone, or Play Store → Payments & subscriptions on Android.
- You're inside a minimum term. Some Mixpanel plans keep charging until a fixed term ends even after you cancel, check the plan notes above.
If they keep charging after a confirmed cancellation, that’s chargeback territory: dispute the charge with your bank citing “subscription cancelled, merchant continued billing”. The yoink app also flags this automatically, it keeps watching your inbox after a confirmed cancellation and alerts you if Mixpanel charges again.
How Mixpanel will try to keep you
Mixpanel may respond with a retention offer, a discount, a free month, or a downgrade to a cheaper tier. Don't engage with the counteroffer. Restate that you want a full cancellation and cite the consumer law again if they push back.
They’ll say: “Mixpanel suggests reducing event volume instead of cancelling ('The best way to reduce your bill is to send fewer events').”
You say: Thanks, but we've decided to consolidate analytics tools. Please proceed with the downgrade to Free at the end of the current term and confirm in writing.
They’ll say: “Auto-prompt that 'your account will remain active and be automatically moved to a Free plan after your current monthly/annual subscription ends', framed to soften the loss but also locks you into the remaining term.”
You say: Acknowledged that the account moves to Free at term end. Please also confirm no auto-renewal will occur and no further A La Carte / overage fees will be billed.
They’ll say: “Startup Program 'first year free' that quietly transitions to a paid plan in year two with sharp price jumps once Group Analytics or Data Pipelines are embedded.”
You say: We want to opt out of the paid transition before year one ends. Please downgrade us to the Free plan effective the renewal date and send written confirmation.
They’ll say: “Offering a sales call / account manager 'pricing question' form instead of a self-serve cancel path.”
You say: We do not need a call. Please process the downgrade in writing via this email thread per Mixpanel's documented self-serve flow.
Your rights when cancelling
The law where you live is the strongest hook, lead with it when you contact the company.
United States
- FTC Click-to-Cancel Rule (2024+)Cancel must be as easy as sign-up.
The Federal Trade Commission’s Click-to-Cancel rule requires Mixpanel to make cancelling at least as simple as signing up, same channel, same number of clicks. If they buried the cancel button or forced a phone call, they’re in violation; report to reportfraud.ftc.gov.
- California ARL (auto-renewal law)Renewal must be cancellable online.
California Business & Professions Code §17602 forces any company billing California residents on auto-renewal to provide an online cancel mechanism. Lawsuits have been won on this; companies often refund quickly when it’s cited.
Worldwide
- Card-issuer chargebackYour bank can reverse the charge.
Visa, Mastercard, and Amex all run chargeback schemes, “goods/services not as described” or “subscription not cancelled” are valid reason codes everywhere they operate. Your bank handles the dispute; Mixpanel has ~45 days to defend.
Delete your Mixpanel account (not just cancel)
Cancelling stops the billing; deleting removes your account and personal data. Do them in that order, deleting an account with an active subscription can leave the billing running with no way to log in and stop it.
If there’s no delete option in Mixpanel’s account settings, email support@mixpanel.com with the subject Account deletion request, [your account email] and ask for your account and personal data to be erased under state privacy laws such as the CCPA. They’re typically required to act on it, most companies complete erasure within about 30 days, and you should ask for written confirmation when it’s done.
Common questions about cancelling Mixpanel
Log in as an **Owner** or **Billing Admin**, click the gear icon → **Organization Settings** → **Plan Details & Billing** → **Modify Plan** → **Downgrade to Free Plan**. A Downgrade Request Email is sent to all organization owners as proof, and a copy goes to Mixpanel's Billing Team for processing. Your account remains active and is automatically moved to Free after your current monthly or annual subscription ends. If the in-app page errors out (a documented bug), email support@mixpanel.com from the registered email to complete cancellation.
Money-back questions (windows, pro-rata, chargebacks) are covered in the Mixpanel refund guide. Need a human for something else entirely? The Mixpanel contact guide lists every channel that actually answers.
