The fastest way
Cancel Minecraft Realms where you bought it: Microsoft-billed subscriptions at account.microsoft.com/services (Manage → Cancel); App Store, Google Play, PlayStation or Switch subscriptions in that store's settings. In-game Settings → Subscriptions → Cancel opens the right store. There's no cancellation email; for refunds file a help.minecraft.net ticket titled 'Realms cancellation and refund request'.
Or let yoink do it for you.
30 seconds. AI emails Minecraft Realms, handles retention, chases the refund. You approve once, then sleep.

- Phone: Call +1 800-642-7676 and say “cancel my service”. Expect a retention pitch, decline it twice and hold firm.
- Online (fastest): Direct cancel flow: account.microsoft.com/services
- Email: Minecraft Realms doesn’t process cancellations by email. Still worth sending one: it dates your cancellation request in writing, which matters for disputes and refunds.
Timing matters: Cancel in the store that bills you (Microsoft, Apple, Google Play, PlayStation, Nintendo) before the next renewal date. Recurring Java Realms renews every 30 days. The Realm stays active until the paid period ends. The 1-month free trial converts to paid automatically unless you cancel before it ends.
The email that backs it up
Minecraft Realms won’t action a cancellation from an email alone, use the fastest channel above for the cancellation itself. This email still earns its place: it puts your cancellation date in writing (your evidence if they keep billing) and it’s where the refund request happens.

Cancellation Request, [your account email]Send this template
Hi Minecraft Realms team, I'm writing to cancel the subscription on my account, [your account email]. Please treat this as formal notice of cancellation, effective from the end of the current billing period. Under the FTC's Click-to-Cancel rule, cancellation must be available through a channel as simple as the one I signed up through. Please confirm by reply that the subscription has been cancelled and that no further charges will be taken. Best, [your name]

Minecraft Realms plans you can cancel
- Realms (Bedrock Edition, also called Realms Core)$3.99/mo
You plus 2 players at once. This is a recurring monthly plan. Cancel it in the store that bills you (Microsoft Store/account, App Store, Google Play, PlayStation, Nintendo). The Realm keeps running until the end of the period you've paid for.
- Realms Plus (Bedrock Edition)$7.99/mo
You plus 10 players at once, and it includes the Marketplace Pass catalog. When you cancel, you lose that catalog content at the end of the billing period. You can upgrade from Realms Core to Realms Plus without losing your server. Older listings also showed a 6-month non-recurring option.
- Realms (Java Edition), recurring$7.99/mo
You plus 10 players at once. It renews automatically every 30 days. Manage it from your minecraft.net profile (My Realms) or from account.microsoft.com/services. If you bought it through the Microsoft Store, cancelling on minecraft.net won't stop the charges.
- Realms (Java Edition), one-time 30/90/180-day pass$7.99/mo
This doesn't renew automatically, so there's nothing to cancel. It ends when the pass expires.
What happens to what you’ve already paid
Realms subscription charges (Bedrock Realms, Realms Plus and Java Realms) aren't refunded as standard, in full or in part. Mojang makes one exception: if they caused you to lose access to your Realm and can't fix it, you may get a refund, so ask through a help.minecraft.net support ticket. Accidental, duplicate or wrong-account purchases are handled by the store that charged you (Microsoft Store/account, Apple, Google Play, PlayStation), under that store's digital-goods rules. Cancelling only stops future renewals. It doesn't refund charges already taken, and one-time Java Realm passes are described as non-refundable.
“Minecraft Realms is a subscription service and is not typically eligible for full or partial refunds. If we've done something that has caused you to be unable to access your Realm, contact Minecraft Support, and we'll try to fix it. If we can't fix it, you may be eligible for a refund.”

Does Minecraft Realms charge a cancellation fee?
We found no cancellation fee in Minecraft Realms’s published terms. On a rolling plan you simply pay to the end of the current billing period and nothing after. If you’re inside a fixed minimum term, check your signup email for the end date, cancelling early is where fees usually hide.
What doesn’t work for cancelling Minecraft Realms
Based on 5 sources, Reddit, app reviews, and direct testing. Skip these and save yourself the loop.
- ✕ Cancelling on minecraft.net when the subscription was bought through the Microsoft Store app or another store, Billing stays with the store you bought from. Microsoft Q&A advisors say cancelling on the Minecraft site won't stop billing for a Microsoft Store subscription, and users report their Microsoft account showing 'no active subscriptions' while the charges continue.
- ✕ Closing or deleting the Realm itself, A user who closed their Realm still found no cancel option and was still being charged every month. Closing a Realm doesn't end the subscription.
- ✕ Uninstalling Minecraft, Mojang hosts the Realm server and it's tied to your account, not your device. It stays up, and keeps billing, as long as payments go through.
- ✕ Emailing Mojang/Minecraft to cancel, Minecraft support works through tickets at help.minecraft.net and has no published support email. The old Mojang Desk.com email channel dates from 2019 or earlier and is likely defunct.
- ✕ Buying again when the purchase shows an error (including when the support AI tells you to), Several users bought again after a payment error and ended up with two or three paid Realms subscriptions, then had trouble getting refunds.
- ✕ Looking in the wrong Microsoft account, If you sign in with a different Microsoft account from the one that bought Realms, the subscription won't appear and you can't cancel it. Charges can also come from a family member's account that has your card saved.
Cancelled Minecraft Realms but still being charged?
Three common reasons, in order of likelihood:
- The cancellation didn’t actually complete. If you never received a written confirmation from Minecraft Realms, treat it as not cancelled. Email
support@mojang.desk-mail.comreferencing your original request date and ask for written confirmation plus a refund of any charge taken since. - You cancelled in the wrong place. Subscriptions started through the App Store or Google Play bill through Apple or Google, cancelling on Minecraft Realms’s site doesn’t touch them. Check Settings → Subscriptions on iPhone, or Play Store → Payments & subscriptions on Android.
- Billing lag. A charge that was already in flight when you cancelled can still land a few days later. One trailing charge can be normal; two is not.
If they keep charging after a confirmed cancellation, that’s chargeback territory: dispute the charge with your bank citing “subscription cancelled, merchant continued billing”. The yoink app also flags this automatically, it keeps watching your inbox after a confirmed cancellation and alerts you if Minecraft Realms charges again.
How Minecraft Realms will try to keep you
Minecraft Realms may respond with a retention offer, a discount, a free month, or a downgrade to a cheaper tier. Don't engage with the counteroffer. Restate that you want a full cancellation and cite the consumer law again if they push back.
They’ll say: “Blanket 'Realms is not eligible for refunds' reply from forum advisors and first-line support”
You say: Mojang's own refund article says that if they caused you to lose access to your Realm and can't fix it, you may be eligible for a refund. I lost access [dates]. That overlaps the Realms outages Mojang acknowledged publicly. Please review my case under that clause instead of the general no-refund rule.
They’ll say: “Back-and-forth between Minecraft and Microsoft: the in-game 'Cancel' button sends you to Microsoft, and Microsoft shows no subscription”
You say: Your cancel link sent me to my Microsoft account, which shows no active Realms subscription, but my card is still charged [amount] on [dates]. Please find the charge by order ID or card details, cancel it at the source, and refund the charges taken after I tried to cancel.
They’ll say: “Support AI telling you to repeat the purchase after an error, which creates duplicate charges”
You say: Your support assistant told me to repeat the purchase after an error, and I was charged [N] times for one Realm. Please cancel and fully refund the duplicate subscriptions (order IDs [x]). I only meant to buy one.
They’ll say: “No live human reachable, so advisors point to a chargeback as the only option left”
You say: I've cancelled, filed ticket #[x] and asked for a refund of [amount]. If it isn't resolved within 14 days I'll dispute the charges with my card issuer as unauthorised continued billing.
Your rights when cancelling
The law where you live is the strongest hook, lead with it when you contact the company.
United States
- FTC Click-to-Cancel Rule (2024+)Cancel must be as easy as sign-up.
The Federal Trade Commission’s Click-to-Cancel rule requires Minecraft Realms to make cancelling at least as simple as signing up, same channel, same number of clicks. If they buried the cancel button or forced a phone call, they’re in violation; report to reportfraud.ftc.gov.
- California ARL (auto-renewal law)Renewal must be cancellable online.
California Business & Professions Code §17602 forces any company billing California residents on auto-renewal to provide an online cancel mechanism. Lawsuits have been won on this; companies often refund quickly when it’s cited.
Worldwide
- Card-issuer chargebackYour bank can reverse the charge.
Visa, Mastercard, and Amex all run chargeback schemes, “goods/services not as described” or “subscription not cancelled” are valid reason codes everywhere they operate. Your bank handles the dispute; Minecraft Realms has ~45 days to defend.
Rights in other regions (United Kingdom, European Union)
United Kingdom
- Consumer Contracts Regulations 201314-day cooling-off on new subscriptions.
You can terminate any continuous service contract within 14 days of starting it and recover any payment, no questions asked. Applies regardless of Minecraft Realms’s own policy.
- Consumer Rights Act 2015Services must be as described.
If Minecraft Realms’s service was misrepresented or didn’t deliver what was promised, you have a statutory right to remedy (repair, refund, or price reduction) regardless of their terms.
European Union
- Consumer Rights Directive 2011/83/EU14-day right of withdrawal across all EU states.
EU-wide statutory right to withdraw from any distance-sold contract within 14 days. Mirrored into local law in every member state. Minecraft Realms must honour it regardless of where they’re headquartered.
Delete your Minecraft Realms account (not just cancel)
Cancelling stops the billing; deleting removes your account and personal data. Do them in that order, deleting an account with an active subscription can leave the billing running with no way to log in and stop it.
If there’s no delete option in Minecraft Realms’s account settings, email support@mojang.desk-mail.com with the subject Account deletion request, [your account email] and ask for your account and personal data to be erased under state privacy laws such as the CCPA. They’re typically required to act on it, most companies complete erasure within about 30 days, and you should ask for written confirmation when it’s done.
