The fastest way
McDonald's has no subscription. To cancel a Mobile Order, tap 'Cancel Order' in the app before the restaurant starts preparing it. Delete your Rewards account under Profile > Delete account. For refunds, contact the restaurant (US) or customerservices@mcdonalds.co.uk (UK), subject 'Refund request, order #[number]'. Delivery refunds go to Uber Eats/DoorDash.
Or let yoink do it for you.

- Phone: Call +1 (888) 511-9903 and say “cancel my service”. Expect a retention pitch, decline it twice and hold firm.
- Online (fastest): Direct cancel flow: www.mcdonalds.com/us/en-us/privacy/do-not-sell-my-personal-information.html
- Email: McDonald's doesn’t process cancellations by email. Still worth sending one: it dates your cancellation request in writing, which matters for disputes and refunds.
Timing matters: Mobile orders can only be cancelled in the app with 'Cancel Order' before the restaurant starts preparing them, and they can't be changed after payment. McDelivery orders generally can't be cancelled once a rider is assigned. The phone number and URL above are for deleting your account (US Privacy Rights Center); order cancellation happens only in the app.
Cancelling a McDonald's order by email
McDonald's won’t action a cancellation from an email alone, use the fastest channel above for the cancellation itself. This email still earns its place: it puts your cancellation date in writing (your evidence if they keep billing) and it’s where the refund request happens.

McDonald's plans you can cancel
- MyMcDonald's Rewards$0.00/mo
This is a free loyalty program, not a paid plan, so you are never billed and there is no cancellation fee. To close it, go to 'your profile' in the app and select 'delete account'. In the US you can also send a deletion request through the Privacy Rights Center or call (888) 511-9903. Any unredeemed points are lost when you delete the account.
- Mobile Order & Pay (pickup orders)
You pay per order. You can cancel with the 'Cancel Order' button in your order details, but only until the restaurant starts preparing it. You can't change an order after paying. If you picked the wrong restaurant, cancel the order and place it again at the right one.
- McDelivery (via Uber Eats / DoorDash)
You pay per order. You can drop an order at any time before you select 'Place Order'. Some markets also let you cancel in the app until a courier is assigned, but once a rider has the order it usually can't be cancelled.
What happens to what you’ve already paid
McDonald's sells one-off food orders, not subscriptions, so there is no subscription refund or pro-rata policy. In the US, refunds for Mobile Order & Pay pickup orders and counter or drive-thru purchases are up to the restaurant (most are franchised), and McDelivery refunds must go to the delivery company (Uber Eats or DoorDash). In the UK, refunds for app click-and-collect orders go through McDonald's Customer Services, while refunds for in-store and kiosk orders go back to the store. Rewards points you have redeemed are never returned, even if the order is cancelled. No fixed refund window is published for the US or UK, so ask quickly and keep your receipt or app order number.
“If you desire to seek a refund for any reason after you select ’Pay & Place Order’, including if the products are unsatisfactory or for other reasons, please contact the restaurant where you purchased the product.”

Does McDonald's charge a cancellation fee?
McDonald's’s terms mention conditions worth checking before you cancel, see the plan notes and policy quote above for the specifics we found. In general: rolling monthly plans end at the period you’ve already paid for with nothing extra to pay, while minimum-term or contract plans can carry an early-exit charge until the term ends.
What doesn’t work for cancelling McDonald's
Based on 7 sources, Reddit, app reviews, and direct testing. Skip these and save yourself the loop.
- ✕ Asking McDonald's UK Customer Services to refund an in-store, counter or kiosk order, Customer Services told a MoneySavingExpert forum user they can only see MyMcDonald's app click-and-collect orders. In-store and kiosk refunds were sent back to the store's own email address (<store-number>@uk.mcd.com).
- ✕ Asking McDonald's corporate to refund a McDelivery order, The US terms say delivery refund requests must go directly to the third-party delivery provider. A Trustpilot reviewer who complained to McDonald's about a missing delivery was pointed back to Uber Eats.
- ✕ Cancelling a mobile order after the restaurant has started making it, McDonald's help pages say you can't cancel once preparation starts, and you can't change an order after paying.
- ✕ Asking for Rewards points back on a cancelled order, The terms say redeemed points are permanently deducted and are not refunded for any reason, even if the order is cancelled.
- ✕ Collecting your order at a different restaurant from the one you selected, Orders can't be moved between restaurants. The selected restaurant already has your order and payment, so the only fix is to cancel (if it hasn't been started) and order again at the new restaurant.
- ✕ Asking a franchise restaurant to fix app or app-payment problems, Franchise operators say they have no control over the mobile app and send customers to the national customer service line, 1-800-244-6227.
Cancelled McDonald's but still being charged?
Three common reasons, in order of likelihood:
- The cancellation didn’t actually complete. If you never received a written confirmation from McDonald's, treat it as not cancelled. Email
customerservices@mcdonalds.co.ukreferencing your original request date and ask for written confirmation plus a refund of any charge taken since. - You cancelled in the wrong place. Subscriptions started through the App Store or Google Play bill through Apple or Google, cancelling on McDonald's’s site doesn’t touch them. Check Settings → Subscriptions on iPhone, or Play Store → Payments & subscriptions on Android.
- Billing lag. A charge that was already in flight when you cancelled can still land a few days later. One trailing charge can be normal; two is not.
If they keep charging after a confirmed cancellation, that’s chargeback territory: dispute the charge with your bank citing “subscription cancelled, merchant continued billing”. The yoink app also flags this automatically, it keeps watching your inbox after a confirmed cancellation and alerts you if McDonald's charges again.
How McDonald's will try to keep you
McDonald's may respond with a retention offer, a discount, a free month, or a downgrade to a cheaper tier. Don't engage with the counteroffer. Restate that you want a full cancellation and cite the consumer law again if they push back.
They’ll say: “Sending you back to the restaurant: corporate and the US terms say refunds are the restaurant's decision, and restaurants sometimes send you back to head office.”
You say: Send one written request that covers everything: order number, restaurant address, time and amount. Ask the restaurant for its direct email or phone number. Point out that the terms themselves say your legal rights are not affected. If neither the restaurant nor corporate takes responsibility within a reasonable deadline, file a chargeback for goods or services not received. One MoneySavingExpert user's Amex dispute was resolved within minutes.
They’ll say: “Sending you to the delivery partner: McDelivery problems get redirected to Uber Eats or DoorDash.”
You say: File the claim with the delivery app first, quoting its order ID and attaching photos. In the UK, also write to McDonald's: its own terms say it investigates McDelivery problems together with Uber Eats, so ask it to start that investigation. If both refuse, dispute the charge with your card provider.
They’ll say: “Delay loops: automated 'sorry for the delay' emails and repeat requests for details you already sent (reported on MoneySavingExpert).”
You say: Put every detail and the receipt in your first email. Reply to repeat requests by pointing back to that email, and set a firm 14-day deadline. McDonald's own FAQ tells you to call or use the Contact Us form if you've had no response after 10 days, so chase it on day 11.
They’ll say: “US arbitration clause: the terms make you go through informal dispute resolution and arbitration, and waive class actions.”
You say: For US disputes that are stuck, send a written notice that clearly states the amount and the refund you want to mcdonaldsinformaldisputeresolution@us.mcd.com, the address published in the terms. This starts the required informal step and usually gets the case to someone with authority.
Your rights when cancelling
The law where you live is the strongest hook, lead with it when you contact the company.
Worldwide
- Card-issuer chargebackYour bank can reverse the charge.
Visa, Mastercard, and Amex all run chargeback schemes, “goods/services not as described” or “subscription not cancelled” are valid reason codes everywhere they operate. Your bank handles the dispute; McDonald's has ~45 days to defend.
Rights in other regions (United Kingdom, European Union)
United Kingdom
- Consumer Contracts Regulations 201314-day cooling-off on new subscriptions.
You can terminate any continuous service contract within 14 days of starting it and recover any payment, no questions asked. Applies regardless of McDonald's’s own policy.
- Consumer Rights Act 2015Services must be as described.
If McDonald's’s service was misrepresented or didn’t deliver what was promised, you have a statutory right to remedy (repair, refund, or price reduction) regardless of their terms.
European Union
- Consumer Rights Directive 2011/83/EU14-day right of withdrawal across all EU states.
EU-wide statutory right to withdraw from any distance-sold contract within 14 days. Mirrored into local law in every member state. McDonald's must honour it regardless of where they’re headquartered.
Delete your McDonald's account (not just cancel)
Cancelling stops the billing; deleting removes your account and personal data. Do them in that order, deleting an account with an active subscription can leave the billing running with no way to log in and stop it.
If there’s no delete option in McDonald's’s account settings, email customerservices@mcdonalds.co.uk with the subject Account deletion request, [your account email] and ask for your account and personal data to be erased under state privacy laws such as the CCPA. They’re typically required to act on it, most companies complete erasure within about 30 days, and you should ask for written confirmation when it’s done.
Common questions about cancelling McDonald's
You **can't change** a McDonald's app order after paying. You **can cancel** it with the **'Cancel Order'** button in your order details, but only until the restaurant starts preparing it. After that, the app won't let you cancel. If the food was made and you didn't want it, your only route is to ask the restaurant you ordered from for a refund. In the UK, use Customer Services in the app (More > Customer Service). Refunds on paid-then-cancelled orders go back to your original payment method.
Money-back questions (windows, pro-rata, chargebacks) are covered in the McDonald's refund guide. Need a human for something else entirely? The McDonald's contact guide lists every channel that actually answers.
