The fastest way
Cancel at google.com/settings/storage, or in the Google One app go to Menu → Settings → Cancel membership. Google sends a confirmation email, and your storage lasts until the billing period ends. If you pay through Apple or Google Play, cancel there instead. Google has no public support email. Use in-app Contact us, and for escalations use the subject 'Google One cancellation and refund request, [account email]'.
Or let yoink do it for you.
30 seconds. AI emails Google Drive, handles retention, chases the refund. You approve once, then sleep.

- Online (fastest): Direct cancel flow: www.google.com/settings/storage
- Email: Google Drive doesn’t process cancellations by email. Still worth sending one: it dates your cancellation request in writing, which matters for disputes and refunds.
Timing matters: Cancel before your renewal date. Access runs to the end of the current billing period, and cancelling doesn't refund the period already paid. Downgrades take effect at the start of the next billing month. Trials must be cancelled before the last day of the offer period. Apple App Store and Google Play subscriptions must be cancelled through that store.
The email that backs it up
Google Drive won’t action a cancellation from an email alone, use the fastest channel above for the cancellation itself. This email still earns its place: it puts your cancellation date in writing (your evidence if they keep billing) and it’s where the refund request happens.

Cancellation Request, [your account email]Send this template
Hi Google Drive team, I'm writing to cancel the subscription on my account, [your account email]. Please treat this as formal notice of cancellation, effective from the end of the current billing period. Under the FTC's Click-to-Cancel rule, cancellation must be available through a channel as simple as the one I signed up through. Please confirm by reply that the subscription has been cancelled and that no further charges will be taken. Best, [your name]

Wait 24 hours. If there's no response, send a polite one-line follow-up referencing the original request.
Google Drive plans you can cancel
- Basic (100 GB)$1.99/mo
Cancel at google.com/settings/storage or in Google One → Settings → Cancel membership. You keep the storage until the billing period ends, then drop to the free 15 GB that Gmail, Drive and Photos share.
- Standard (200 GB)$2.99/mo
Same cancel flow as the other storage plans. Access continues until the end of the current billing cycle.
- 2 TB (Premium / Google AI Plus)$9.99/mo
Family members sharing the plan also drop to 15 GB when it ends. Tell them before you cancel. Naming varies by region (Premium 2 TB vs Google AI Plus).
- Google AI Pro$19.99/mo
Storage varies by region and date (2 TB in older listings, 5 TB in October 2026 US listings). Reports say an AI Pro trial taken on top of an existing Google One plan can be hard to cancel on its own, and the workaround is to cancel the plan and resubscribe to storage only.
What happens to what you’ve already paid
This covers Google One / Google Drive storage subscriptions (monthly or annual) billed directly by Google. They are non-refundable in most regions: cancelling only stops the next renewal, and you keep the storage until the term ends. If you bought through Google Play, Play's own refund policy applies. If you bought through the Apple App Store, request the refund from Apple. Pixel Pass bundles have their own refund timing. Refunds do happen for billing errors, such as Google's 2020 Photos storage-quota bug. Some regions (for example Israel) allow immediate cancellation with a partial refund. Issued refunds can take about 14 days at Google plus up to 60 days at your bank.
“In most countries or regions, Google storage plan purchases are non-refundable. The amount of storage you purchased is yours for the length of the subscription, even if you decide to cancel it.”

Does Google Drive charge a cancellation fee?
We found no cancellation fee in Google Drive’s published terms. On a rolling plan you simply pay to the end of the current billing period and nothing after. If you’re inside a fixed minimum term, check your signup email for the end date, cancelling early is where fees usually hide.
What doesn’t work for cancelling Google Drive
Based on 6 sources, Reddit, app reviews, and direct testing. Skip these and save yourself the loop.
- ✕ Cancelling the payment in PayPal or blocking the card instead of cancelling in Google, The subscription is still active in Google's system. Cancellation has to be done through Google's own storage/Google One settings to stop recurring charges.
- ✕ Changing an App Store-billed plan from the Google One app on Android, Google's help says that if you signed up through the App Store on an iPhone or iPad, you can't change the membership or payment method from the Android app. You have to use the App Store on an Apple device.
- ✕ Cancelling and expecting a prorated refund for unused months, Google's policy is that storage plans are non-refundable in most regions and the storage stays yours until the term ends. Cancelling only stops the renewal.
- ✕ Emailing a general Google customer service address, Google publishes no direct customer service email. Support goes through product help-center contact forms, in-app chat or callbacks.
- ✕ Calling the Mountain View headquarters switchboard (650-253-0000), Consumer sites report a voice assistant answers and no live agent picks up. The line isn't meant for customer service.
Cancelled Google Drive but still being charged?
Three common reasons, in order of likelihood:
- The cancellation didn’t actually complete. If you never received a written confirmation from Google Drive, treat it as not cancelled. Email
support@google.comreferencing your original request date and ask for written confirmation plus a refund of any charge taken since. - You cancelled in the wrong place. Subscriptions started through the App Store or Google Play bill through Apple or Google, cancelling on Google Drive’s site doesn’t touch them. Check Settings → Subscriptions on iPhone, or Play Store → Payments & subscriptions on Android.
- Billing lag. A charge that was already in flight when you cancelled can still land a few days later. One trailing charge can be normal; two is not.
If they keep charging after a confirmed cancellation, that’s chargeback territory: dispute the charge with your bank citing “subscription cancelled, merchant continued billing”. The yoink app also flags this automatically, it keeps watching your inbox after a confirmed cancellation and alerts you if Google Drive charges again.
How Google Drive will try to keep you
Google Drive may respond with a retention offer, a discount, a free month, or a downgrade to a cheaper tier. Don't engage with the counteroffer. Restate that you want a full cancellation and cite the consumer law again if they push back.
They’ll say: “Upgrade-first plan screens: the Manage / Change membership pages lead with bigger, pricier plans and bury the cancel or downgrade option”
You say: Ignore the upgrade tiles. On the Google One home page, click Manage and scroll past every plan option to 'Cancel membership' at the bottom, or go straight to google.com/settings/storage and click Cancel under your plan.
They’ll say: “Storage-loss warnings during cancellation: you'll lose the extra storage, may go over quota, and content may be deleted after 2 years over quota”
You say: Nothing is deleted when you cancel. Your plan runs to the end of the billing period, and deletion only becomes possible after 2+ years over quota. Back up with Google Takeout or clear large files first, then cancel.
They’ll say: “Trial auto-conversion: trials need a card and convert to paid at the standard price unless cancelled before the offer period ends”
You say: Cancel the day you start the trial. Google's offer terms say your membership can stay active until the offer period ends, so you lose nothing by cancelling early.
Your rights when cancelling
The law where you live is the strongest hook, lead with it when you contact the company.
United States
- FTC Click-to-Cancel Rule (2024+)Cancel must be as easy as sign-up.
The Federal Trade Commission’s Click-to-Cancel rule requires Google Drive to make cancelling at least as simple as signing up, same channel, same number of clicks. If they buried the cancel button or forced a phone call, they’re in violation; report to reportfraud.ftc.gov.
- California ARL (auto-renewal law)Renewal must be cancellable online.
California Business & Professions Code §17602 forces any company billing California residents on auto-renewal to provide an online cancel mechanism. Lawsuits have been won on this; companies often refund quickly when it’s cited.
Worldwide
- Card-issuer chargebackYour bank can reverse the charge.
Visa, Mastercard, and Amex all run chargeback schemes, “goods/services not as described” or “subscription not cancelled” are valid reason codes everywhere they operate. Your bank handles the dispute; Google Drive has ~45 days to defend.
Rights in other regions (United Kingdom, European Union)
United Kingdom
- Consumer Contracts Regulations 201314-day cooling-off on new subscriptions.
You can terminate any continuous service contract within 14 days of starting it and recover any payment, no questions asked. Applies regardless of Google Drive’s own policy.
- Consumer Rights Act 2015Services must be as described.
If Google Drive’s service was misrepresented or didn’t deliver what was promised, you have a statutory right to remedy (repair, refund, or price reduction) regardless of their terms.
European Union
- Consumer Rights Directive 2011/83/EU14-day right of withdrawal across all EU states.
EU-wide statutory right to withdraw from any distance-sold contract within 14 days. Mirrored into local law in every member state. Google Drive must honour it regardless of where they’re headquartered.
Delete your Google Drive account (not just cancel)
Cancelling stops the billing; deleting removes your account and personal data. Do them in that order, deleting an account with an active subscription can leave the billing running with no way to log in and stop it.
If there’s no delete option in Google Drive’s account settings, email support@google.com with the subject Account deletion request, [your account email] and ask for your account and personal data to be erased under state privacy laws such as the CCPA. They’re typically required to act on it, most companies complete erasure within about 30 days, and you should ask for written confirmation when it’s done.
Common questions about cancelling Google Drive
On a computer, go to **google.com/settings/storage**, sign in to the account that pays for storage, click **Cancel** under your plan, review the storage changes and confirm with **Cancel plan**. On Android, open the **Google One app → Menu → Settings → Cancel membership** and confirm. Google emails a confirmation, and you keep the paid storage until the current billing period ends. If you subscribed through the Apple App Store, cancel in iPhone **Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions** instead.
Money-back questions (windows, pro-rata, chargebacks) are covered in the Google Drive refund guide. Need a human for something else entirely? The Google Drive contact guide lists every channel that actually answers.
