Cancellation Request, [your account email]Send this template
Hi GameStop team, I'm writing to cancel the subscription on my account, [your account email]. Please treat this as formal notice of cancellation, effective from the end of the current billing period. Under the FTC's Click-to-Cancel rule, cancellation must be available through a channel as simple as the one I signed up through. Please confirm by reply that the subscription has been cancelled and that no further charges will be taken. Best, [your name]

GameStop plans you can cancel
- GameStop Pro (annual membership)$25.00/yr
Auto-renews every year on your enrolment anniversary. Terms require you to cancel via your account page, email or phone at least 5 days before the anniversary date; promo sign-ups ($14.84-$14.99 deals) still renew at the full standard fee.
- PowerUp Rewards (free tier)$0.00/mo
Free loyalty tier, no recurring charge, so nothing to cancel; downgrading from Pro simply lets the paid membership lapse.
What happens to what you’ve already paid
Two different rules apply depending on what you were charged for. For the GameStop Pro MEMBERSHIP ($25/year): cancelling only stops the next renewal, there is no pro-rata refund of the year you're in, and the published return policy grants a full membership refund only if you cancel within 2 days of purchase and have used no Pro benefits (discounts, monthly reward certificates). Refunds for an auto-renewal charge are not processed automatically; you have to ask for one and GameStop will typically refuse if benefits were used since the renewal. For PRODUCT purchases (a separate policy): new unopened items are returnable within 15 days (30 days for Pro members), pre-owned software within 7 days, with an $8.99 ship-back fee and $14.99 on console returns, while digital codes, gift cards and trading cards are non-returnable.
“Cancellation will stop further charges and stop auto-renewal of the GameStop Pro Membership; however, no prorated amounts shall be refunded to the Member upon cancellation or termination of participation in the Auto-renew Program unless where required by law.”

Does GameStop charge a cancellation fee?
GameStop’s terms mention conditions worth checking before you cancel, see the plan notes and policy quote above for the specifics we found. In general: rolling monthly plans end at the period you’ve already paid for with nothing extra to pay, while minimum-term or contract plans can carry an early-exit charge until the term ends.
What doesn’t work for cancelling GameStop
Based on 6 sources, Reddit, app reviews, and direct testing. Skip these and save yourself the loop.
- ✕ Cancelling your Pro membership at a GameStop store or in the mobile app, Consumer cancellation guides consistently report Pro membership can't generally be cancelled in-store or via the app, the account page, phone line and email are the routes GameStop's own terms name.
- ✕ Letting the card expire, deleting the app or removing your saved payment method, Auto-renew terms require members to keep payment details accurate and GameStop charges any card it holds on file on your anniversary; a failed card leaves the membership open and the balance chased rather than cancelled.
- ✕ Cancelling in the final days before your anniversary and expecting to dodge the charge, Subscription terms require cancellation at least 5 days before the Anniversary date; anything later can still be billed for the new year.
- ✕ Cancelling and waiting for an automatic refund of the renewal charge, GameStop's support article states refunds for auto-renewal charges aren't processed automatically, you must request one separately.
- ✕ Emailing a cancellation without your membership details, Terms state that a member emailing their cancellation must provide the name and email address associated with the membership, otherwise it isn't actioned.
- ✕ Requesting a refund after using a Pro benefit since the renewal, Refunds are described as available only where Pro Membership benefits have not been used since the auto-renewal, so redeeming a $5 monthly reward or a Pro discount kills the claim.
- ✕ Trying to return a digital game code, gift card or sealed trading-card product for a refund, GameStop's return policy lists digital content, gift cards, POSA and trading-card products as not eligible for return.
Cancelled GameStop but still being charged?
Three common reasons, in order of likelihood:
- The cancellation didn’t actually complete. If you never received a written confirmation from GameStop, treat it as not cancelled. Email
care@gamestop.comreferencing your original request date and ask for written confirmation plus a refund of any charge taken since. - You cancelled in the wrong place. Subscriptions started through the App Store or Google Play bill through Apple or Google, cancelling on GameStop’s site doesn’t touch them. Check Settings → Subscriptions on iPhone, or Play Store → Payments & subscriptions on Android.
- Billing lag. A charge that was already in flight when you cancelled can still land a few days later. One trailing charge can be normal; two is not.
If they keep charging after a confirmed cancellation, that’s chargeback territory: dispute the charge with your bank citing “subscription cancelled, merchant continued billing”. The yoink app also flags this automatically, it keeps watching your inbox after a confirmed cancellation and alerts you if GameStop charges again.
How GameStop will try to keep you
GameStop may respond with a retention offer, a discount, a free month, or a downgrade to a cheaper tier. Don't engage with the counteroffer. Restate that you want a full cancellation and cite the consumer law again if they push back.
They’ll say: “The $5 Renewal Reward, membership marketing dangles a $5 reward specifically for letting auto-renew go through, so leaving auto-renew on feels 'free'.”
You say: A $5 reward against a $25 charge is a $20 loss if you don't shop there monthly. State plainly: 'Please turn off auto-renew on my account effective immediately; I do not want the renewal reward.'
They’ll say: “Discounted renewal offers ($14.84-$15 in-cart or in-store renewal codes) presented instead of processing the cancellation.”
You say: 'I'm not looking to renew at any price. Please confirm in writing that auto-renew is off and that no further charge will be taken on my anniversary date.'
They’ll say: “Points-expiry pressure, terms warn that lapse of Pro membership expires all points 45 days after the lapse (and 13-month accrual expiry otherwise).”
You say: 'I understand the points position and accept it. Please proceed with cancellation of the auto-renew program.' Redeem any usable certificates BEFORE you send the cancellation if the charge hasn't happened yet, but not after a renewal you intend to claim back, as using benefits voids the refund.
They’ll say: “'Voluntary cancellation means you can't reactivate the current membership', used to make cancelling sound irreversible mid-term.”
You say: Ask for the non-destructive version: 'Please switch off auto-renewal only. Per your own help article, my current membership remains active through its expiration date.'
They’ll say: “Being pushed to the 1-800 line where the cancellation leaves no written trace.”
You say: Call if you like, but follow up the same day: 'Further to my call at [time] with [agent], this email confirms my cancellation request. Please reply confirming auto-renew is disabled.' Email creates the timestamp that beats the 5-day deadline dispute.
Your rights when cancelling
The law where you live is the strongest hook, lead with it when you contact the company.
United States
- FTC Click-to-Cancel Rule (2024+)Cancel must be as easy as sign-up.
The Federal Trade Commission’s Click-to-Cancel rule requires GameStop to make cancelling at least as simple as signing up, same channel, same number of clicks. If they buried the cancel button or forced a phone call, they’re in violation; report to reportfraud.ftc.gov.
- California ARL (auto-renewal law)Renewal must be cancellable online.
California Business & Professions Code §17602 forces any company billing California residents on auto-renewal to provide an online cancel mechanism. Lawsuits have been won on this; companies often refund quickly when it’s cited.
Worldwide
- Card-issuer chargebackYour bank can reverse the charge.
Visa, Mastercard, and Amex all run chargeback schemes, “goods/services not as described” or “subscription not cancelled” are valid reason codes everywhere they operate. Your bank handles the dispute; GameStop has ~45 days to defend.
Rights in other regions (European Union)
European Union
- Consumer Rights Directive 2011/83/EU14-day right of withdrawal across all EU states.
EU-wide statutory right to withdraw from any distance-sold contract within 14 days. Mirrored into local law in every member state. GameStop must honour it regardless of where they’re headquartered.
Delete your GameStop account (not just cancel)
Cancelling stops the billing; deleting removes your account and personal data. Do them in that order, deleting an account with an active subscription can leave the billing running with no way to log in and stop it.
If there’s no delete option in GameStop’s account settings, email care@gamestop.com with the subject Account deletion request, [your account email] and ask for your account and personal data to be erased under state privacy laws such as the CCPA. They’re typically required to act on it, most companies complete erasure within about 30 days, and you should ask for written confirmation when it’s done.
Common questions about cancelling GameStop
Three routes work, per GameStop's own subscription terms: sign in at **https://www.gamestop.com/account/** and switch **Auto-Renew off** under Manage Pro Membership; **email** the subscription team (subscriptionhelp@gamestop.com / care@gamestop.com); or **call 1-800-883-8895**. Whichever you use, do it **at least 5 days before your anniversary date**, that's the deadline written into the terms. If you email, you must include the name and email address attached to the membership or it won't be processed. Keep the confirmation: cancellation stops the next $25 charge, it does not refund the year you're currently in.
Money-back questions (windows, pro-rata, chargebacks) are covered in the GameStop refund guide. Need a human for something else entirely? The GameStop contact guide lists every channel that actually answers.
