The fastest way
fal has no subscription, it's prepaid credits. To 'cancel,' stop adding credits, remove your payment method in the billing dashboard, and email support@fal.ai (subject: 'Close account & refund unused credits') to delete your account. Purchased credits are non-refundable per terms, but support has issued discretionary refunds; replies typically arrive within 24 to 48 hours.

fal’s refund policy
fal sells prepaid credits, not a subscription, and the terms say purchased credits are non-refundable except at fal's sole discretion. In practice, support@fal.ai has issued refunds for clearly unused balances, compromised API keys (sometimes), and billing-error disputes, but they refuse refunds when an API key was leaked and used. Purchased credits expire 365 days from purchase; promotional credits expire in 90 days. EU/UK consumers may have stronger statutory rights, see the regional blocks below.
“Once purchased, these credits can be used only for the consumption of Services and are non-refundable (except as otherwise expressly provided in these Terms or otherwise agreed to by Company in its sole discretion), non-transferable, and cannot be exchanged for currency.”

Does fal charge a cancellation fee?
fal’s terms mention conditions worth checking before you cancel, see the plan notes and policy quote above for the specifics we found. In general: rolling monthly plans end at the period you’ve already paid for with nothing extra to pay, while minimum-term or contract plans can carry an early-exit charge until the term ends.
What doesn’t work for cancelling fal
Based on 5 sources, Reddit, app reviews, and direct testing. Skip these and save yourself the loop.
- ✕ Cancelling a 'subscription' in the dashboard, fal has no recurring subscription product, it's prepaid credits and hourly GPU compute. There is nothing to cancel in the usual sense; you stop charges by removing your payment method and not topping up.
- ✕ Asking for a refund after an API key was compromised, Trustpilot reviewer reported ~$400 in unauthorised Seedream charges after a key leak; fal support refused a refund, citing that API-key security is the account owner's responsibility.
- ✕ Letting credits sit and expecting them to last forever, Purchased credits expire 365 days from purchase; promotional credits expire in 90 days (some coupon credits as soon as 1 week).
- ✕ Disputing video-understanding charges as 'inflated', fal bills video-understanding by input video length (5s = 1 unit / $0.01), not by processing time, so charges that look 10× the runtime are usually correct per their model.
- ✕ Ignoring an unpaid trial invoice, A Trustpilot reviewer reported being invoiced the month after a free trial without realising the quota was paid; fal continued to chase the invoice and refused to cancel it without contact.
Cancelled fal but still being charged?
Three common reasons, in order of likelihood:
- The cancellation didn’t actually complete. If you never received a written confirmation from fal, treat it as not cancelled. Email
support@fal.aireferencing your original request date and ask for written confirmation plus a refund of any charge taken since. - You cancelled in the wrong place. Subscriptions started through the App Store or Google Play bill through Apple or Google, cancelling on fal’s site doesn’t touch them. Check Settings → Subscriptions on iPhone, or Play Store → Payments & subscriptions on Android.
- You're inside a minimum term. Some fal plans keep charging until a fixed term ends even after you cancel, check the plan notes above.
If they keep charging after a confirmed cancellation, that’s chargeback territory: dispute the charge with your bank citing “subscription cancelled, merchant continued billing”. The yoink app also flags this automatically, it keeps watching your inbox after a confirmed cancellation and alerts you if fal charges again.
How fal will try to keep you
fal may respond with a retention offer, a discount, a free month, or a downgrade to a cheaper tier. Don't engage with the counteroffer. Restate that you want a full cancellation and cite the consumer law again if they push back.
They’ll say: “Pause-don't-cancel: keep credits on file for 365 days”
You say: You don't need credits to keep the account open. Withdraw your card, let the balance run down, and revisit only if you actually have a new project.
They’ll say: “Offer to investigate billing rather than refund”
You say: Ask for the IP logs, request IDs, and per-call timestamps tied to the disputed charges in writing. If support won't share them, escalate to a Section 75 / chargeback claim with your card issuer.
They’ll say: “Point to non-refundable credits clause”
You say: The same clause says 'except as otherwise agreed by Company in its sole discretion', discretion has been used before. Ask politely for a goodwill refund of the unused balance and reference EU 14-day withdrawal rights if you're in the EU/UK and haven't consumed the credits.
They’ll say: “Suggest downgrading to free tier / $20 signup credit”
You say: If you've already burned the signup credit and don't have a real workload, there's nothing to downgrade to, closing the account is cleaner than keeping a live card on a usage-billed platform.
Your rights when cancelling
The law where you live is the strongest hook, lead with it when you contact the company.
Worldwide
- Card-issuer chargebackYour bank can reverse the charge.
Visa, Mastercard, and Amex all run chargeback schemes, “goods/services not as described” or “subscription not cancelled” are valid reason codes everywhere they operate. Your bank handles the dispute; fal has ~45 days to defend.
Rights in other regions (United Kingdom, European Union)
United Kingdom
- Consumer Contracts Regulations 201314-day cooling-off on new subscriptions.
You can terminate any continuous service contract within 14 days of starting it and recover any payment, no questions asked. Applies regardless of fal’s own policy.
- Consumer Rights Act 2015Services must be as described.
If fal’s service was misrepresented or didn’t deliver what was promised, you have a statutory right to remedy (repair, refund, or price reduction) regardless of their terms.
European Union
- Consumer Rights Directive 2011/83/EU14-day right of withdrawal across all EU states.
EU-wide statutory right to withdraw from any distance-sold contract within 14 days. Mirrored into local law in every member state. fal must honour it regardless of where they’re headquartered.
Delete your fal account (not just cancel)
Cancelling stops the billing; deleting removes your account and personal data. Do them in that order, deleting an account with an active subscription can leave the billing running with no way to log in and stop it.
If there’s no delete option in fal’s account settings, email support@fal.ai with the subject Account deletion request, [your account email] and ask for your account and personal data to be erased under state privacy laws such as the CCPA. They’re typically required to act on it, most companies complete erasure within about 30 days, and you should ask for written confirmation when it’s done.
Common questions about cancelling fal
fal doesn't sell a recurring subscription, it sells **prepaid credits** plus hourly GPU compute. To stop being charged: (1) sign in at fal.ai/dashboard/billing, (2) remove your saved payment method, (3) stop or delete any running Serverless deployments, and (4) email **support@fal.ai** asking them to close the account. There is no monthly fee to cancel, but any credits already on the balance are non-refundable by default.
Money-back questions (windows, pro-rata, chargebacks) are covered in the fal refund guide. Need a human for something else entirely? The fal contact guide lists every channel that actually answers.
