Depop plans you can cancel
- Buyer purchase (Marketplace fee up to 5% + up to $1)
There's no subscription. Each purchase is a one-off order. Before it ships, the seller can cancel it by giving a full refund in the app. Buyers have to ask the seller through Depop messages.
- Boosted Listings (seller, 12% of item price in UK/US)
Boosting is optional and there's no monthly fee. The 12% fee (8% outside the UK and US) is still charged if a buyer saw the boosted listing and bought within 28 days, even if you turned Boost off in the meantime.
- Free selling account$0.00/mo
UK, US and Australian sellers pay no selling fee, only payment processing (3.3% + $0.45 in the US, 2.9% + £0.30 in the UK). To close the account, withdraw your balance, finish or refund open sales, and settle any disputes first.
What happens to what you’ve already paid
Physical item purchases paid through Depop Payments (card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Klarna) are covered by Depop Protection in the UK, US and Australia. You get a full refund, including shipping and fees, if the item never arrives, arrives damaged, or is significantly not as described, as long as you report it within 30 days of purchase. You can't report a missing item until 5 days after purchase, and the seller then has 48 hours to respond. Change-of-mind returns from private sellers are up to the seller, and registered business sellers have their own returns policy. Purchases paid with PayPal are disputed through PayPal, not Depop. For seller-side charges, processing and boost fees are reversed automatically when you give a full refund through Depop Payments, while PayPal-era selling fees have to be claimed using the fee-refund form.
“your item doesn’t arrive, arrives damaged, or is significantly not as described, you’ll get a full refund if you report the issue to us within 30 days of the date of purchase.”

Does Depop charge a cancellation fee?
Depop’s terms mention conditions worth checking before you cancel, see the plan notes and policy quote above for the specifics we found. In general: rolling monthly plans end at the period you’ve already paid for with nothing extra to pay, while minimum-term or contract plans can carry an early-exit charge until the term ends.
What doesn’t work for cancelling Depop
Based on 6 sources, Reddit, app reviews, and direct testing. Skip these and save yourself the loop.
- ✕ Calling a Depop customer service phone number, Depop doesn't offer phone support. Everything goes through in-app tickets and email, and several guides warn that 'Depop' numbers found on Google are often scams.
- ✕ Asking a private seller for a change-of-mind refund through Depop, Depop's help center says sellers don't have to refund if you just changed your mind. Only not-received, damaged, or significantly-not-as-described items are covered.
- ✕ Filing a Depop Protection claim more than 30 days after purchase, Protection only applies if you report the issue within 30 days of the purchase date. After that, Depop rarely steps in.
- ✕ Reporting an item as not received in the first 5 days, The Resolution Centre won't let you raise an issue until 5 days after purchase, which gives the seller time to ship.
- ✕ Deleting your account while you still have a balance, open sales or disputes, Depop requires you to withdraw your balance and complete or refund outstanding sales first. It won't close accounts with open disputes.
- ✕ Emailing support from a different email than the one on your account, Users report getting 'We cannot verify account ownership' replies and having to start again. Deletion requests must come from the email linked to the account.
- ✕ Deleting the app or account to cancel an active sale, This doesn't cancel open transactions. A seller can only cancel by giving a full refund through the Selling Hub.
- ✕ Giving a partial refund to cancel an order, A partial refund leaves the order active. Only a full refund cancels it and triggers the automatic fee reversal.
- ✕ Throwing away a damaged or misdescribed item before the claim is settled, Depop says it can't guarantee refunds for items that have been thrown away during the claim.
- ✕ Taking payment off the app (Venmo, bank transfer) to avoid fees, Off-platform payments aren't covered by Depop Protection, and Depop's systems flag accounts that mention them.
Cancelled Depop but still being charged?
Three common reasons, in order of likelihood:
- The cancellation didn’t actually complete. If you never received a written confirmation from Depop, treat it as not cancelled. Email
close@depop.comreferencing your original request date and ask for written confirmation plus a refund of any charge taken since. - You cancelled in the wrong place. Subscriptions started through the App Store or Google Play bill through Apple or Google, cancelling on Depop’s site doesn’t touch them. Check Settings → Subscriptions on iPhone, or Play Store → Payments & subscriptions on Android.
- Billing lag. A charge that was already in flight when you cancelled can still land a few days later. One trailing charge can be normal; two is not.
If they keep charging after a confirmed cancellation, that’s chargeback territory: dispute the charge with your bank citing “subscription cancelled, merchant continued billing”. The yoink app also flags this automatically, it keeps watching your inbox after a confirmed cancellation and alerts you if Depop charges again.
How Depop will try to keep you
Depop may respond with a retention offer, a discount, a free month, or a downgrade to a cheaper tier. Don't engage with the counteroffer. Restate that you want a full cancellation and cite the consumer law again if they push back.
They’ll say: “There's no 'delete account' button on the website or Android. Only the iOS app lets you start deletion yourself, and everyone else is sent to a contact form.”
You say: Skip the menus. Email close@depop.com from the address on your account. Include your @username, a clear request to delete the account permanently, and say your balance is withdrawn and you have no open sales or disputes.
They’ll say: “Tickets go unanswered or get generic, AI-sounding replies, especially for payout and dispute problems.”
You say: Reply on the same ticket and quote your ticket number, username and transaction ID. Ask for a written decision by a set date, and say plainly that you'll stop using the platform if it isn't resolved. A seller told TechCrunch this was what finally got a real reply.
They’ll say: “Sellers refuse returns by pointing to 'NO REFUNDS / ALL SALES FINAL' in their shop bio.”
You say: A shop bio doesn't override Depop Protection. If the item didn't arrive, arrived damaged, or is significantly not as described, raise an issue in the Resolution Centre within 30 days and ask Depop to step in if the seller doesn't reply within 48 hours.
They’ll say: “PayPal-paid purchases get sent back to PayPal instead of being handled by Depop.”
You say: Open an 'Item not received' or 'Significantly not as described' dispute in PayPal straight away and note it on the Depop order too. If PayPal can't sort it out, go back to Depop support with the PayPal case number. If both fail, a card chargeback is your fallback.
They’ll say: “Boost fees are still charged up to 28 days after a shopper viewed a boosted listing, even if Boost was switched off.”
You say: Check the fee breakdown on each sale. If you were charged a boost fee on a sale that wasn't attributed to a boosted view, or on an order you fully refunded, ask support to reverse it and quote the order ID.
Your rights when cancelling
The law where you live is the strongest hook, lead with it when you contact the company.
Worldwide
- Card-issuer chargebackYour bank can reverse the charge.
Visa, Mastercard, and Amex all run chargeback schemes, “goods/services not as described” or “subscription not cancelled” are valid reason codes everywhere they operate. Your bank handles the dispute; Depop has ~45 days to defend.
Rights in other regions (United Kingdom, European Union)
United Kingdom
- Consumer Contracts Regulations 201314-day cooling-off on new subscriptions.
You can terminate any continuous service contract within 14 days of starting it and recover any payment, no questions asked. Applies regardless of Depop’s own policy.
- Consumer Rights Act 2015Services must be as described.
If Depop’s service was misrepresented or didn’t deliver what was promised, you have a statutory right to remedy (repair, refund, or price reduction) regardless of their terms.
European Union
- Consumer Rights Directive 2011/83/EU14-day right of withdrawal across all EU states.
EU-wide statutory right to withdraw from any distance-sold contract within 14 days. Mirrored into local law in every member state. Depop must honour it regardless of where they’re headquartered.
Delete your Depop account (not just cancel)
Cancelling stops the billing; deleting removes your account and personal data. Do them in that order, deleting an account with an active subscription can leave the billing running with no way to log in and stop it.
If there’s no delete option in Depop’s account settings, email close@depop.com with the subject Account deletion request, [your account email] and ask for your account and personal data to be erased under state privacy laws such as the CCPA. They’re typically required to act on it, most companies complete erasure within about 30 days, and you should ask for written confirmation when it’s done.
Common questions about cancelling Depop
Buyers usually can't cancel a Depop order on their own. **Message the seller** from the order in *Purchases* straight away, say it hasn't shipped, and ask for a **full refund**. Only the seller can cancel, by tapping *Refund sale → Full refund* in their Selling Hub. The money goes back to your original payment method, usually within 3 to 5 business days for cards. If the seller ignores you and never ships, you can raise an item-not-received issue after 5 days. Sellers who don't ship in time may also have the order cancelled and refunded automatically.
Money-back questions (windows, pro-rata, chargebacks) are covered in the Depop refund guide. Need a human for something else entirely? The Depop contact guide lists every channel that actually answers.
