What happens to what you’ve already paid
Bright Data's Master Service Agreement says monthly-commitment subscription fees (proxy plans, Scale API plans, dataset subscriptions) are non-cancelable and non-refundable, and unused commitment does not roll over. Its billing docs still allow exceptions: you can ask the support team or your account manager for one. Pay-as-you-go balances work the same way, and any promotional or matched bonus funds are never refundable. Real refunds have happened for billing or usage errors (one reviewer got a $1,000 runaway-usage bill refunded in full). Users rejected at KYC/compliance report a harder fight to get their deposit back.
“The Subscription Fees are non-cancelable and non-refundable.”

Does Bright Data charge a cancellation fee?
Bright Data’s terms mention conditions worth checking before you cancel, see the plan notes and policy quote above for the specifics we found. In general: rolling monthly plans end at the period you’ve already paid for with nothing extra to pay, while minimum-term or contract plans can carry an early-exit charge until the term ends.
What doesn’t work for cancelling Bright Data
Based on 8 sources, Reddit, app reviews, and direct testing. Skip these and save yourself the loop.
- ✕ Deleting the account from Settings while a plan or balance is still active, The docs list prerequisites: your real balance must be exactly $0, you need no active long-term subscription or monthly commitment, and you need no pending costs. Only the original account owner can delete. You have to cancel the commitment through support first.
- ✕ Disabling your zones to stop the bill, Disabling zones stops usage charges, but the docs say you are still charged the monthly precommit while the account stays active.
- ✕ Expecting unused monthly commitment to carry over or be refunded, Bright Data's billing FAQ says the commitment does not roll over if the account was active all month. Usage resets on the 1st.
- ✕ Asking for a refund of promotional or deposit-match bonus credit, The docs say funds added as a promotional bonus are not eligible for refund.
- ✕ Opening a support ticket from an unfunded or free account, Per the docs, staff help is only given to paying customers. The contact-support option in the control panel can stay locked until funds are added, so use email instead.
- ✕ Emailing hr@brightdata.com about cancellation or charges, A complaint directory suggests this address, but it is the recruiting inbox. Billing and cancellation requests belong at support@brightdata.com.
Cancelled Bright Data but still being charged?
Three common reasons, in order of likelihood:
- The cancellation didn’t actually complete. If you never received a written confirmation from Bright Data, treat it as not cancelled. Email
support@brightdata.comreferencing your original request date and ask for written confirmation plus a refund of any charge taken since. - You cancelled in the wrong place. Subscriptions started through the App Store or Google Play bill through Apple or Google, cancelling on Bright Data’s site doesn’t touch them. Check Settings → Subscriptions on iPhone, or Play Store → Payments & subscriptions on Android.
- Billing lag. A charge that was already in flight when you cancelled can still land a few days later. One trailing charge can be normal; two is not.
If they keep charging after a confirmed cancellation, that’s chargeback territory: dispute the charge with your bank citing “subscription cancelled, merchant continued billing”. The yoink app also flags this automatically, it keeps watching your inbox after a confirmed cancellation and alerts you if Bright Data charges again.
How Bright Data will try to keep you
Bright Data may respond with a retention offer, a discount, a free month, or a downgrade to a cheaper tier. Don't engage with the counteroffer. Restate that you want a full cancellation and cite the consumer law again if they push back.
They’ll say: “Pointing to the MSA clause that fees are non-cancelable and non-refundable”
You say: Bright Data's own billing docs say exceptions are made for specific cases and tell customers to request them from support. Name the specific reason (billing error, runaway usage, service not delivered) and ask for the exception review, not a generic refund.
They’ll say: “Rejecting your use case at KYC/compliance, then keeping the deposit”
You say: If compliance blocked you from the product you paid for, the service was never provided. Ask in writing for the unused real balance back. Quote the account email and deposit date, and keep a chargeback in reserve if they refuse.
They’ll say: “AI support bot deflection (Trustpilot reviews complain about the 'Sophie' bot and say support never replies)”
You say: Skip the bot. Email support@brightdata.com with your account ID and the words 'billing / cancellation, human review requested' in the subject. If there's no reply, forward the thread to the Support Team Leader address Bright Data posts publicly in its Trustpilot replies.
They’ll say: “Billing the next monthly commitment on the 1st while your cancellation is still pending”
You say: Send the cancellation in writing well before month-end and ask for confirmation that the account will be set inactive before the 1st. If you're charged after a dated request, cite the timestamp and ask for the charge to be reversed.
Your rights when cancelling
The law where you live is the strongest hook, lead with it when you contact the company.
United States
- FTC Click-to-Cancel Rule (2024+)Cancel must be as easy as sign-up.
The Federal Trade Commission’s Click-to-Cancel rule requires Bright Data to make cancelling at least as simple as signing up, same channel, same number of clicks. If they buried the cancel button or forced a phone call, they’re in violation; report to reportfraud.ftc.gov.
- California ARL (auto-renewal law)Renewal must be cancellable online.
California Business & Professions Code §17602 forces any company billing California residents on auto-renewal to provide an online cancel mechanism. Lawsuits have been won on this; companies often refund quickly when it’s cited.
Worldwide
- Card-issuer chargebackYour bank can reverse the charge.
Visa, Mastercard, and Amex all run chargeback schemes, “goods/services not as described” or “subscription not cancelled” are valid reason codes everywhere they operate. Your bank handles the dispute; Bright Data has ~45 days to defend.
Rights in other regions (United Kingdom, European Union)
United Kingdom
- Consumer Contracts Regulations 201314-day cooling-off on new subscriptions.
You can terminate any continuous service contract within 14 days of starting it and recover any payment, no questions asked. Applies regardless of Bright Data’s own policy.
- Consumer Rights Act 2015Services must be as described.
If Bright Data’s service was misrepresented or didn’t deliver what was promised, you have a statutory right to remedy (repair, refund, or price reduction) regardless of their terms.
European Union
- Consumer Rights Directive 2011/83/EU14-day right of withdrawal across all EU states.
EU-wide statutory right to withdraw from any distance-sold contract within 14 days. Mirrored into local law in every member state. Bright Data must honour it regardless of where they’re headquartered.
Delete your Bright Data account (not just cancel)
Cancelling stops the billing; deleting removes your account and personal data. Do them in that order, deleting an account with an active subscription can leave the billing running with no way to log in and stop it.
If there’s no delete option in Bright Data’s account settings, email support@brightdata.com with the subject Account deletion request, [your account email] and ask for your account and personal data to be erased under state privacy laws such as the CCPA. They’re typically required to act on it, most companies complete erasure within about 30 days, and you should ask for written confirmation when it’s done.
Common questions about cancelling Bright Data
There's no self-serve cancel button for monthly commitments. Contact support through the **Help & Support** (?) icon in the control panel, or email **support@brightdata.com** from your account email. Include your account ID and ask them to end the monthly commitment and set the account inactive before the next 1st-of-month billing. Ask for written confirmation. Once the commitment is cancelled and your real balance is $0, you can delete the account yourself under Settings → Account Settings → Profile.
Money-back questions (windows, pro-rata, chargebacks) are covered in the Bright Data refund guide. Need a human for something else entirely? The Bright Data contact guide lists every channel that actually answers.
