Email customerservice@americanpest.net (subject: "Cancellation Notice, account #, effective immediately") or call +1 301-891-2600. - Phone: Call +1 301-891-2600 and say “cancel my service”. Expect a retention pitch, decline it twice and hold firm.
- Post: Written notice is also accepted by courier or US Postal Service Express Mail with proof of delivery and signature confirmation, addressed to ATTN: Customer Cancellations, 11820 Market Place, Suite A, Fulton, Maryland 20759. Useful as a fallback when emails go unacknowledged.. Send it tracked so you can prove delivery.
- Email (fastest): Email
customerservice@americanpest.netwith the template below, the route that creates a paper trail and carries the refund ask.
Timing matters: Residential: 30 days' notice required and billing continues through the notice period. Commercial: written non-renewal notice at least 60 days before the agreement period ends, or it auto-renews. Cancelling within 12 months of a promotional sign-up voids the discount and it is added to the final invoice.

Cancellation Request, [your account email]Send this template
Hi American Pest team, I'm writing to cancel the subscription on my account, [your account email]. Please treat this as formal notice of cancellation, effective from the end of the current billing period. Under the FTC's Click-to-Cancel rule, cancellation must be available through a channel as simple as the one I signed up through. Please confirm by reply that the subscription has been cancelled and that no further charges will be taken. Best, [your name]

American Pest plans you can cancel
- Preferred Care (quarterly pest control)$39.00/mo
Recurring auto-renewing plan billed monthly/by visit; cancellation requires 30 days' written notice and you keep being billed through the notice period.
- Preferred Care Plus (pest control + termite monitoring)
Includes termite monitoring stations, American Pest schedules a technician to collect the stations after cancellation, which can delay the account closing.
- Preferred Care Complete (pest control + Sentricon AlwaysActive termite control)
Top-tier annual plan that auto-renews; renewal invoices reported at roughly $600 for the year.
- Mosquito & Tick Control (seasonal)
Seasonal add-on quoted per property; same 30 days' notice rule applies.
- Commercial Service Agreement
Fixed-term agreement: non-renewal notice must be given in writing at least 60 days before the term ends, otherwise it auto-renews. Price can rise up to 12% a year without notice.
- One-off treatment / inspection (quoted per job)
Initial inspections are free; one-off treatments are quoted by a technician and invoiced separately from any recurring plan.
What happens to what you’ve already paid
Recurring Preferred Care / termite plans: there is no published refund window, cancellation takes 30 days' notice and you keep being billed through it, so the money back you're usually chasing is a credit for a renewal or visit charged *after* you asked to cancel. Those credits do get issued, but typically only after you produce the dated cancellation email and escalate. One-off treatments and initial inspections are separate: once a technician has attended, American Pest treats the invoice as earned and disputes it per-invoice rather than refunding automatically. Commercial agreements are stricter still, early cancellation leaves you liable for completed work plus compensation under the contract, and promotional discounts can be clawed back onto your final invoice if you cancel inside 12 months.
“Service cancellations require 30 days’ notice, so you will continue to be charged during that period.”

Does American Pest charge a cancellation fee?
American Pest’s terms mention conditions worth checking before you cancel, see the plan notes and policy quote above for the specifics we found. In general: rolling monthly plans end at the period you’ve already paid for with nothing extra to pay, while minimum-term or contract plans can carry an early-exit charge until the term ends.
What doesn’t work for cancelling American Pest
Based on 8 sources, Reddit, app reviews, and direct testing. Skip these and save yourself the loop.
- ✕ Cancelling by phone only and trusting the rep logged it, Multiple BBB complaints describe reps taking a verbal cancellation and the recurring plan staying live, in one case a quarterly treatment was still performed and billed afterwards because payment was outstanding. Staff also tell customers the cancellation must be emailed.
- ✕ Sending the cancellation email and assuming it took effect on send, The service terms state emailed cancellations must be acknowledged by American Pest to be valid, so an unanswered email is arguable, a customer who emailed three months before renewal was still charged roughly $600 and told the cancellation wasn't valid.
- ✕ Letting the contract run to its renewal date and cancelling then, Plans auto-renew; commercial agreements need written non-renewal notice at least 60 days before the term ends or they roll over automatically.
- ✕ Cancelling the card or blocking the charge instead of cancelling the account, Complainants report repeated daily charge attempts after they stopped paying, and unpaid balances get routed to a collections mailbox rather than written off.
- ✕ Looking for a cancel button in an online account portal, No self-serve cancellation flow is published anywhere on the site; the billing FAQ and the terms route everything to email, phone or written notice.
- ✕ Using americanpest.com's Spanish contact form or WhatsApp line if you're a US customer, americanpest.com is AMERICAN PEST CONTROL COMPANY, S.A. in Leganés, Madrid, a different company from the Fulton, Maryland American Pest (americanpest.net) that runs the US Preferred Care plans.
Cancelled American Pest but still being charged?
Three common reasons, in order of likelihood:
- The cancellation didn’t actually complete. If you never received a written confirmation from American Pest, treat it as not cancelled. Email
customerservice@americanpest.netreferencing your original request date and ask for written confirmation plus a refund of any charge taken since. - You cancelled in the wrong place. Subscriptions started through the App Store or Google Play bill through Apple or Google, cancelling on American Pest’s site doesn’t touch them. Check Settings → Subscriptions on iPhone, or Play Store → Payments & subscriptions on Android.
- Billing lag. A charge that was already in flight when you cancelled can still land a few days later. One trailing charge can be normal; two is not.
If they keep charging after a confirmed cancellation, that’s chargeback territory: dispute the charge with your bank citing “subscription cancelled, merchant continued billing”. The yoink app also flags this automatically, it keeps watching your inbox after a confirmed cancellation and alerts you if American Pest charges again.
How American Pest will try to keep you
American Pest may respond with a retention offer, a discount, a free month, or a downgrade to a cheaper tier. Don't engage with the counteroffer. Restate that you want a full cancellation and cite the consumer law again if they push back.
They’ll say: “"Your cancellation isn't valid because we already serviced the property", the renewal charge is defended on the grounds that a treatment was performed first.”
You say: Reply with the timestamp of your original cancellation email and ask them to produce the acknowledgement their own terms require. State that any visit performed after your written notice was unauthorised and request a credit for the renewal in full.
They’ll say: “"We need 30 days' notice, so the next charge still stands."”
You say: Accept the 30 days but pin the clock to the date of your first written request, not the date they finally replied: "My notice is dated [DD/MM]; service ends [DD/MM+30] and no charge after that date is authorised." Anything billed beyond that window is refundable.
They’ll say: “Promotional clawback, sign-up discounts are voided if you cancel inside 12 months and are added back to your final invoice.”
You say: Ask for the signed agreement page showing the clawback and the exact discount value. If the offer was sold verbally or the service failed the Pest Free Pledge, dispute the clawback as a penalty rather than a price adjustment before paying the final bill.
They’ll say: “Annual price increases of up to 12% applied without prior notification on commercial agreements.”
You say: Treat the unnotified increase as the trigger: "You increased my rate without notice; I'm exercising written notice of non-renewal effective [date]." Send it at least 60 days before the term ends so the auto-renewal clause can't bite.
They’ll say: “Cancellation stalled on equipment retrieval, termite monitoring stations must be collected before the account is closed.”
You say: Confirm cancellation in writing as effective immediately and offer access dates for station pickup separately: "Collection scheduling does not extend my service or billing, please confirm the account is closed as of [date]."
They’ll say: “Unresolved balance pushed toward collections while the cancellation dispute is open.”
You say: Send a single email to customerservice@americanpest.net and billing@americanpest.net stating the balance is formally disputed, attach your cancellation evidence, and ask them to place collection activity on hold pending their written response.
Your rights when cancelling
The law where you live is the strongest hook, lead with it when you contact the company.
United States
- FTC Click-to-Cancel Rule (2024+)Cancel must be as easy as sign-up.
The Federal Trade Commission’s Click-to-Cancel rule requires American Pest to make cancelling at least as simple as signing up, same channel, same number of clicks. If they buried the cancel button or forced a phone call, they’re in violation; report to reportfraud.ftc.gov.
Worldwide
- Card-issuer chargebackYour bank can reverse the charge.
Visa, Mastercard, and Amex all run chargeback schemes, “goods/services not as described” or “subscription not cancelled” are valid reason codes everywhere they operate. Your bank handles the dispute; American Pest has ~45 days to defend.
Rights in other regions (European Union)
European Union
- Consumer Rights Directive 2011/83/EU14-day right of withdrawal across all EU states.
EU-wide statutory right to withdraw from any distance-sold contract within 14 days. Mirrored into local law in every member state. American Pest must honour it regardless of where they’re headquartered.
Delete your American Pest account (not just cancel)
Cancelling stops the billing; deleting removes your account and personal data. Do them in that order, deleting an account with an active subscription can leave the billing running with no way to log in and stop it.
If there’s no delete option in American Pest’s account settings, email customerservice@americanpest.net with the subject Account deletion request, [your account email] and ask for your account and personal data to be erased under state privacy laws such as the CCPA. They’re typically required to act on it, most companies complete erasure within about 30 days, and you should ask for written confirmation when it’s done.
Common questions about cancelling American Pest
Put it in **writing**. American Pest's terms accept notice by email to **customerservice@americanpest.net** or by courier/certified mail with signature confirmation to *ATTN: Customer Cancellations, 11820 Market Place, Suite A, Fulton, MD 20759*. You can also call **+1 301-891-2600**, but back the call up with email the same day, the terms say an emailed cancellation only counts once American Pest acknowledges it, and customers who relied on a phone call alone have been billed afterwards. Use a subject line like "Cancellation Notice, account [number]" and keep the sent copy.
Money-back questions (windows, pro-rata, chargebacks) are covered in the American Pest refund guide. Need a human for something else entirely? The American Pest contact guide lists every channel that actually answers.
