- Phone: Call +1-888-280-4331 and say “cancel my service”. Expect a retention pitch, decline it twice and hold firm.
- Online (fastest): Direct cancel flow: www.amazon.com/yourmembershipsandsubscriptions
- Email: Amazon Prime Video doesn’t process cancellations by email. Still worth sending one: it dates your cancellation request in writing, which matters for disputes and refunds.
Timing matters: Cancelling stops the next renewal only, access and billing run to the end of the current period, and the cancellation can be reversed up to the displayed end date. If the add-on is billed through Apple, cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date or you may still be charged.
The email that backs it up
Amazon Prime Video won’t action a cancellation from an email alone, use the fastest channel above for the cancellation itself. This email still earns its place: it puts your cancellation date in writing (your evidence if they keep billing) and it’s where the refund request happens.

Cancellation Request, [your account email]Send this template
Hi Amazon Prime Video team, I'm writing to cancel the subscription on my account, [your account email]. Please treat this as formal notice of cancellation, effective from the end of the current billing period. Under the FTC's Click-to-Cancel rule, cancellation must be available through a channel as simple as the one I signed up through. Please confirm by reply that the subscription has been cancelled and that no further charges will be taken. If your policy allows it, I'd also appreciate a pro-rata refund for the unused portion of the current period. Best, [your name]

Wait 24 hours. If there's no response, send a polite one-line follow-up referencing the original request.
Amazon Prime Video plans you can cancel
- Amazon Prime (includes Prime Video)$14.99/mo
Cancelled from Prime Central / Manage Your Memberships & Subscriptions; Prime Video access ends with the membership. In the EU the same membership is billed at €6.99/month or €69.90/year.
- Prime Video standalone (with ads)$8.99/mo
Cancel with 'End Subscription' under Account & Settings → Your Account; access runs to the end of the paid billing period.
- Prime Video Ultra (formerly Ad Free)$4.99/mo
Add-on on top of Prime or standalone; renews automatically each month unless cancelled. Was $2.99/month as 'Prime Video Ad Free' before 10 April 2026.
- Prime Video add-on subscriptions / Channels
Each channel bills separately and must be unsubscribed individually under Account & Settings → Subscriptions; channels keep billing after an Amazon Prime membership ends.
What happens to what you’ve already paid
Amazon Prime membership charges (the tier that bundles Prime Video) refund in full for the current period if you cancel without having used Prime benefits, and Amazon says that refund is processed in three to five business days; annual members who used some benefits can be offered a partial, use-based refund. Prime Video add-on subscriptions and Channels (Ultra/Ad Free, Paramount+, STARZ, MAX etc.) work differently: cancelling stops the recurring charge but does not refund charges already taken, and access simply runs to the end of the paid period, unless the cancel flow offers you a self-service refund, which ends the subscription immediately. One-off Prime Video rentals and purchases are their own case: an accidental order can be cancelled from My Stuff → Purchases & Rentals before you press play, and the refund goes back to the original payment method. Anything outside those routes (a renewal you forgot, a charge you say you never authorised) is a manual goodwill ask to customer service, not an automatic entitlement.
“Canceling a subscription doesn’t generate a refund for any previous subscription charges.”

Does Amazon Prime Video charge a cancellation fee?
We found no cancellation fee in Amazon Prime Video’s published terms. On a rolling plan you simply pay to the end of the current billing period and nothing after. If you’re inside a fixed minimum term, check your signup email for the end date, cancelling early is where fees usually hide.
What doesn’t work for cancelling Amazon Prime Video
Based on 8 sources, Reddit, app reviews, and direct testing. Skip these and save yourself the loop.
- ✕ Emailing Amazon to cancel and expecting the subscription to stop, Amazon's help pages route every cancellation to the online self-service flow (or chat/callback); consumer email support is not an advertised cancellation channel, so an email alone leaves the auto-renew running. Email is still worth sending for a refund ask and a timestamped paper trail.
- ✕ Cancelling Amazon Prime and assuming Prime Video Channels stop too, Amazon states that subscriptions on Prime Video, like Paramount+, continue once your Prime membership ends, each add-on has to be unsubscribed separately or it keeps billing.
- ✕ Cancelling an Apple-billed add-on inside the final 24 hours, If you pay for a Prime Video add-on through Apple, cancellations must be made at least 24 hours before renewal or you may still be charged.
- ✕ Deleting the Prime Video app or removing the card on file, Neither action cancels the subscription record; the charge simply retries or falls to another saved payment method, and Amazon keeps the renewal active until it is ended in account settings.
- ✕ Filing the complaint through Resolver or a third-party case-file tool, Resolver reports that Amazon will not respond to Resolver case files and only accepts complaints made through its own customer support channels.
- ✕ Assuming the cancellation is final without checking the end date, Amazon's own help text says the subscription end date is shown on the confirmation screen and that you can reverse the cancellation until that date, an accidental re-entry into the flow can undo it, so screenshot the confirmation.
Cancelled Amazon Prime Video but still being charged?
Three common reasons, in order of likelihood:
- The cancellation didn’t actually complete. If you never received a written confirmation from Amazon Prime Video, treat it as not cancelled. Email
cs-reply@amazon.comreferencing your original request date and ask for written confirmation plus a refund of any charge taken since. - You cancelled in the wrong place. Subscriptions started through the App Store or Google Play bill through Apple or Google, cancelling on Amazon Prime Video’s site doesn’t touch them. Check Settings → Subscriptions on iPhone, or Play Store → Payments & subscriptions on Android.
- Billing lag. A charge that was already in flight when you cancelled can still land a few days later. One trailing charge can be normal; two is not.
If they keep charging after a confirmed cancellation, that’s chargeback territory: dispute the charge with your bank citing “subscription cancelled, merchant continued billing”. The yoink app also flags this automatically, it keeps watching your inbox after a confirmed cancellation and alerts you if Amazon Prime Video charges again.
How Amazon Prime Video will try to keep you
Amazon Prime Video may respond with a retention offer, a discount, a free month, or a downgrade to a cheaper tier. Don't engage with the counteroffer. Restate that you want a full cancellation and cite the consumer law again if they push back.
They’ll say: “The End Membership flow shows retention offers and asks you to pick a reason for leaving before it lets you finish.”
You say: Choosing a reason is optional and does not affect the cancellation, click straight through every offer screen until you see a confirmation with an end date, then screenshot it.
They’ll say: “Downgrade nudges: keep Prime Video only, switch to a cheaper tier, or move to an annual plan instead of cancelling.”
You say: If you actually want out, decline the downgrade; a downgrade restarts a live subscription and resets your refund argument. Say: 'I'm not downgrading, please end the subscription effective today.'
They’ll say: “Cancellation is scheduled, not immediate, Amazon says you can reverse the cancellation up to the end date, so the subscription sits in a 'pending' state.”
You say: Ask explicitly for immediate termination and a refund of the unused period: Amazon's help text confirms that accepting a self-service refund makes the cancellation take effect immediately, and that if you weren't offered one you should contact customer service.
They’ll say: “Price-hike emails framed as no-action-required, the Ultra notice told subscribers the plan renews at $4.99/month unless cancelled and that no action is needed to continue.”
You say: A price increase you didn't agree to is a cancellation trigger, not a default opt-in. Quote the notice date and price change in your cancel/refund request and ask for the charge taken after the hike to be reversed.
They’ll say: “First-line agents deflect with scripts and repeat 'the policy is non-refundable' on add-on charges.”
You say: Escalate in writing to executive customer relations (ecr-replies@amazon.com in the US, cis@amazon.co.uk in the UK, both are unadvertised escalation inboxes published by consumer-advocacy sites), quoting the charge date, order ID and the fact you cancelled.
They’ll say: “Enrolment friction: Amazon has been found to sign people into Prime through checkout and Prime Video enrolment flows they didn't intend to use.”
You say: If you were enrolled without clear consent or tried and failed to cancel, say so explicitly, the FTC settlement covers US Prime customers enrolled through challenged flows or blocked from cancelling between 23 June 2019 and 23 June 2025, with automatic and claims-based refunds.
Your rights when cancelling
The law where you live is the strongest hook, lead with it when you contact the company.
United States
- FTC Click-to-Cancel Rule (2024+)Cancel must be as easy as sign-up.
The Federal Trade Commission’s Click-to-Cancel rule requires Amazon Prime Video to make cancelling at least as simple as signing up, same channel, same number of clicks. If they buried the cancel button or forced a phone call, they’re in violation; report to reportfraud.ftc.gov.
- California ARL (auto-renewal law)Renewal must be cancellable online.
California Business & Professions Code §17602 forces any company billing California residents on auto-renewal to provide an online cancel mechanism. Lawsuits have been won on this; companies often refund quickly when it’s cited.
Worldwide
- Card-issuer chargebackYour bank can reverse the charge.
Visa, Mastercard, and Amex all run chargeback schemes, “goods/services not as described” or “subscription not cancelled” are valid reason codes everywhere they operate. Your bank handles the dispute; Amazon Prime Video has ~45 days to defend.
Rights in other regions (United Kingdom, European Union)
United Kingdom
- Consumer Contracts Regulations 201314-day cooling-off on new subscriptions.
You can terminate any continuous service contract within 14 days of starting it and recover any payment, no questions asked. Applies regardless of Amazon Prime Video’s own policy.
- Consumer Rights Act 2015Services must be as described.
If Amazon Prime Video’s service was misrepresented or didn’t deliver what was promised, you have a statutory right to remedy (repair, refund, or price reduction) regardless of their terms.
European Union
- Consumer Rights Directive 2011/83/EU14-day right of withdrawal across all EU states.
EU-wide statutory right to withdraw from any distance-sold contract within 14 days. Mirrored into local law in every member state. Amazon Prime Video must honour it regardless of where they’re headquartered.
Delete your Amazon Prime Video account (not just cancel)
Cancelling stops the billing; deleting removes your account and personal data. Do them in that order, deleting an account with an active subscription can leave the billing running with no way to log in and stop it.
If there’s no delete option in Amazon Prime Video’s account settings, email cs-reply@amazon.com with the subject Account deletion request, [your account email] and ask for your account and personal data to be erased under state privacy laws such as the CCPA. They’re typically required to act on it, most companies complete erasure within about 30 days, and you should ask for written confirmation when it’s done.
Common questions about cancelling Amazon Prime Video
Cancel online, Amazon does not take cancellations by email. On Prime Video, go to **Account & Settings → Your Account** and, for a Prime Video-only subscription, select **End Subscription**. If Prime Video came with an Amazon Prime membership, you cancel the membership instead (under Prime Membership, select *Edit on Amazon*), or manage everything from **Your Memberships and Subscriptions** at `amazon.com/yourmembershipsandsubscriptions`. If your subscription was created through a third party such as a mobile provider, you must cancel with them. The confirmation screen shows your end date, screenshot it.
Money-back questions (windows, pro-rata, chargebacks) are covered in the Amazon Prime Video refund guide. Need a human for something else entirely? The Amazon Prime Video contact guide lists every channel that actually answers.
