The fastest way
Runpod is pay-as-you-go GPU cloud — there's no monthly subscription to cancel. Stop charges by terminating all Pods, Serverless endpoints, and network storage in the console, then disable auto-billing under Billing settings. For account closure or unused credit refunds, email support@runpod.io. Confirmations typically arrive within 1-2 business days.

Cancellation Request — [your account email]Send this template
Hi Runpod team, I'm writing to request the immediate cancellation of my subscription tied to this account, effective today. Under applicable consumer-protection law (UK Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, EU Directive 2011/83/EU, or the FTC's Click-to-Cancel rule depending on your jurisdiction), I'm entitled to terminate this continuous service contract through the same channel it was formed in — please confirm by reply that no further charges will be made. If your policy permits, I'd also appreciate a pro-rata refund for any unused portion of the current billing period. Best, [your name]
Wait for confirmation
Wait 24 hours. If there's no response, send a polite one-line follow-up referencing the original request.
Runpod plans you can cancel
- Pods (On-Demand GPU)
Billed per-second/per-hour. Stop charges by terminating the Pod in the console — idle volume storage continues to bill at $0.20/GB/mo until the volume is deleted.
- Serverless
Usage-based, billed per second of worker runtime. Delete the endpoint to stop all charges; no minimum commitment.
- Clusters (On-Demand)
No commitment — terminate the cluster in the console to stop billing.
- Reserved Clusters
Term-based commitment (1mo / 3mo / 6mo / 12mo / 12mo+). Subscription auto-renews for the same duration unless you opt out per the Terms.
- Network Storage
Continues to bill at $0.07/GB/mo (under 1TB) or $0.05/GB/mo (over 1TB) even after Pods are terminated. Delete the volume to stop charges.
Runpod’s refund policy
Runpod is primarily a pay-as-you-go service, so there is no stated refund window for consumed GPU time, storage, or serverless usage. Unused prepaid credit balances may be refunded at Runpod's discretion if you contact support@runpod.io. Any term-based subscription (e.g. Reserved Clusters) auto-renews unless you opt out under the Purchases and Payment section. Always terminate Pods and delete volumes before requesting account closure to avoid additional charges.
“IF YOU SUBSCRIBE TO ANY SUBSCRIPTION WE MAY OFFER THROUGH THE SERVICE FOR A TERM (THE "INITIAL TERM"), THEN YOUR SUBSCRIPTION WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY RENEWED FOR ADDITIONAL PERIODS OF THE SAME DURATION AS THE INITIAL TERM AT RUNPOD'S THEN-CURRENT FEE FOR SUCH SUBSCRIPTION UNLESS YOU OPT OUT OF THE AUTO-RENEWAL OR DECLINE TO RENEW YOUR SUBSCRIPTION IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE SECTION TITLED "PURCHASES AND PAYMENT" BELOW.”

What doesn’t work for cancelling Runpod
Based on 3 sources — Reddit, app reviews, and direct testing. Skip these and save yourself the loop.
- ✕ Closing your browser tab to stop a running Pod — Pods continue billing per-second until you explicitly Stop or Terminate them in the console.
- ✕ Stopping a Pod but leaving the volume attached — Idle volume disk still bills at $0.20/GB/mo. You must delete the volume to stop storage charges.
- ✕ Removing your payment card to 'cancel' — Outstanding usage is still owed, and Runpod can pursue the balance per the Terms. Terminate resources first.
- ✕ Disputing the charge with your bank without contacting support first — Chargebacks typically result in account suspension; support@runpod.io usually resolves credit disputes faster.
- ✕ Assuming a Reserved Cluster ends automatically — Terms state subscriptions auto-renew for the same duration unless you opt out in advance.
How Runpod will try to keep you
Runpod may respond with a retention offer — a discount, a free month, or a downgrade to a cheaper tier. Don't engage with the counteroffer. Restate that you want a full cancellation and cite the consumer law again if they push back.
They’ll say: “Offer of additional credits to keep the account active”
You say: Thanks, but I don't have upcoming GPU workloads. Please close the account and refund any unused credit balance to my original payment method.
They’ll say: “Suggesting you pause/stop Pods instead of terminating”
You say: Paused Pods still incur storage costs. Please terminate all my Pods, delete all attached volumes and network storage, and confirm a $0 balance going forward.
They’ll say: “Pointing to cheaper Community Cloud GPUs as an alternative”
You say: I'm not switching tiers — I'm leaving the platform entirely. Please proceed with account closure.
Your rights when cancelling
Consumer law varies by where you live. The strongest hook for your country is the one to lead with when you contact the company — pick the one that applies and quote it in your email.
United States
- FTC Click-to-Cancel Rule (2024+)Cancel must be as easy as sign-up.
The Federal Trade Commission’s Click-to-Cancel rule requires Runpod to make cancelling at least as simple as signing up — same channel, same number of clicks. If they buried the cancel button or forced a phone call, they’re in violation; report to reportfraud.ftc.gov.
- California ARL (auto-renewal law)Renewal must be cancellable online.
California Business & Professions Code §17602 forces any company billing California residents on auto-renewal to provide an online cancel mechanism. Lawsuits have been won on this; companies often refund quickly when it’s cited.
- Restore Online Shoppers’ Confidence Act (ROSCA)Negative-option billing must be clearly disclosed.
Federal law (15 U.S.C. §8401) requires Runpod to clearly disclose any negative-option / auto-renewal terms before charging. Buried terms = potential federal violation. Report to the FTC alongside any FTC complaint.
United Kingdom
- Consumer Contracts Regulations 201314-day cooling-off on new subscriptions.
You can terminate any continuous service contract within 14 days of starting it and recover any payment, no questions asked. Applies regardless of Runpod’s own policy.
- Consumer Rights Act 2015Services must be as described.
If Runpod’s service was misrepresented or didn’t deliver what was promised, you have a statutory right to remedy (repair, refund, or price reduction) regardless of their terms.
European Union
- Consumer Rights Directive 2011/83/EU14-day right of withdrawal across all EU states.
EU-wide statutory right to withdraw from any distance-sold contract within 14 days. Mirrored into local law in every member state. Runpod must honour it regardless of where they’re headquartered.
- Digital Content Directive (EU) 2019/770Refund rights for digital content failures.
Specific to digital subscriptions — gives you the right to a price reduction or contract termination when Runpod’s digital service is not as advertised, with no time limit beyond the contract period.
Worldwide
- Card-issuer chargebackYour bank can reverse the charge.
Visa, Mastercard, and Amex all run chargeback schemes — “goods/services not as described” or “subscription not cancelled” are valid reason codes everywhere they operate. Your bank handles the dispute; Runpod has ~45 days to defend.
Common questions about cancelling Runpod
There is no one-click account-delete button. To fully cancel: (1) terminate every running Pod from the **Pods** dashboard, (2) delete every Serverless endpoint, (3) delete any attached **Volume** and **Network Storage** (these keep billing even after Pods stop), and (4) email **support@runpod.io** from your account email with the subject *"Account closure request"*. Ask them to disable auto-billing and confirm a zero balance in writing. Most users report a reply within 1-2 business days.
