Cancellation Request — [your account email]Send this template
Hi Revolut team, I'm writing to request the immediate cancellation of my subscription tied to this account, effective today. Under applicable consumer-protection law (UK Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, EU Directive 2011/83/EU, or the FTC's Click-to-Cancel rule depending on your jurisdiction), I'm entitled to terminate this continuous service contract through the same channel it was formed in — please confirm by reply that no further charges will be made. If your policy permits, I'd also appreciate a pro-rata refund for any unused portion of the current billing period. Best, [your name]
Wait for confirmation
Wait 24 hours. If there's no response, send a polite one-line follow-up referencing the original request.

- Plus£3.99/mo
Downgrade to Standard in the app (Profile → Plan → Downgrade) or ask in-app chat / email support@revolut.com.

Revolut’s refund policy
Revolut refunds a paid-plan fee only if you downgrade within 14 days of signup AND you haven't used the account — the refund is paid as a separate transaction. Mid-cycle upgrades are pro-rated automatically, but mid-cycle downgrades outside the 14-day window are not — you simply keep the benefits until the next billing date. If your account was temporarily limited, Revolut issues a separate refund covering the days you lost access.
“If you signed up for a new plan in the last 14 days and haven't used your account, you can downgrade to a lower-priced plan and receive a refund as a separate transaction.”

What doesn’t work for cancelling Revolut
Based on 6 sources — Reddit, app reviews, and direct testing. Skip these and save yourself the loop.
- ✕ Calling a customer-service phone number — Revolut has no general support phone line; the published number +442033228352 is an automated card-blocking IVR that 'can't connect you to a human agent'. Only Premium/Metal/Ultra customers can call via in-app calling.
- ✕ Cancelling via email alone for paid-plan downgrades — Support routes plan changes through in-app chat or the Billing menu. Email to support@revolut.com works for closing the whole account but plan downgrade itself happens in-app.
- ✕ Deleting the app — Removing the app does not cancel your paid plan or close the account — billing continues until you downgrade in-app or email support.
- ✕ Asking to skip the zero-balance requirement — Revolut won't close the account until all currency, crypto, commodities and stock balances are liquidated and pending transactions clear.
- ✕ Cancelling while account is restricted — Terms state 'If your Account has been temporarily restricted, we may not be able to close it until we have completed our enquiries.'
How Revolut will try to keep you
Revolut may respond with a retention offer — a discount, a free month, or a downgrade to a cheaper tier. Don't engage with the counteroffer. Restate that you want a full cancellation and cite the consumer law again if they push back.
They’ll say: “Chatbot 'Rita' loop — the AI assistant tries to handle downgrades before passing to a human”
You say: Type 'speak to a human agent' or 'formal complaint about plan fee' to escalate past Rita to a live agent.
They’ll say: “Offer to switch you to a cheaper paid plan (e.g. Metal → Plus) instead of full downgrade”
You say: Decline politely: 'I want a full downgrade to Standard, not a side-grade. Please confirm in writing the effective date and any refund due.'
They’ll say: “Reminder of forfeited 'benefits worth £2,200/year' on Metal or £9,000 on Ultra”
You say: State you don't use those bundled subscriptions and the cash cost exceeds the value to you. Ask for the downgrade to be processed today.
They’ll say: “Break-fee warning on annual paid plans”
You say: Ask for the exact break-fee amount in writing; under UK/EU consumer law you can still cancel and pay only the pro-rated cost of use, especially within 14 days of renewal.
They’ll say: “Delay tactic — request more documents before closing the account”
You say: If support stalls, email formalcomplaints@revolut.com with a clear deadline (15 business days) and the line: 'Treat this as a formal complaint; I require a final response letter so I can escalate to the Financial Ombudsman Service.'
Your rights when cancelling
Consumer law varies by where you live. The strongest hook for your country is the one to lead with when you contact the company — pick the one that applies and quote it in your email.
United States
- FTC Click-to-Cancel Rule (2024+)Cancel must be as easy as sign-up.
The Federal Trade Commission’s Click-to-Cancel rule requires Revolut to make cancelling at least as simple as signing up — same channel, same number of clicks. If they buried the cancel button or forced a phone call, they’re in violation; report to reportfraud.ftc.gov.
- California ARL (auto-renewal law)Renewal must be cancellable online.
California Business & Professions Code §17602 forces any company billing California residents on auto-renewal to provide an online cancel mechanism. Lawsuits have been won on this; companies often refund quickly when it’s cited.
- Restore Online Shoppers’ Confidence Act (ROSCA)Negative-option billing must be clearly disclosed.
Federal law (15 U.S.C. §8401) requires Revolut to clearly disclose any negative-option / auto-renewal terms before charging. Buried terms = potential federal violation. Report to the FTC alongside any FTC complaint.
United Kingdom
- Consumer Contracts Regulations 201314-day cooling-off on new subscriptions.
You can terminate any continuous service contract within 14 days of starting it and recover any payment, no questions asked. Applies regardless of Revolut’s own policy.
- Consumer Rights Act 2015Services must be as described.
If Revolut’s service was misrepresented or didn’t deliver what was promised, you have a statutory right to remedy (repair, refund, or price reduction) regardless of their terms.
European Union
- Consumer Rights Directive 2011/83/EU14-day right of withdrawal across all EU states.
EU-wide statutory right to withdraw from any distance-sold contract within 14 days. Mirrored into local law in every member state. Revolut must honour it regardless of where they’re headquartered.
- Digital Content Directive (EU) 2019/770Refund rights for digital content failures.
Specific to digital subscriptions — gives you the right to a price reduction or contract termination when Revolut’s digital service is not as advertised, with no time limit beyond the contract period.
Worldwide
- Card-issuer chargebackYour bank can reverse the charge.
Visa, Mastercard, and Amex all run chargeback schemes — “goods/services not as described” or “subscription not cancelled” are valid reason codes everywhere they operate. Your bank handles the dispute; Revolut has ~45 days to defend.
Common questions about cancelling Revolut
Open the Revolut app → tap your profile icon → **Plan** → **Downgrade to Standard** → **Yes, Proceed**. The downgrade takes effect at the end of your current billing period. If you're within 14 days of signup and haven't used the account, you'll be prompted that you're eligible for a refund. If the in-app flow won't progress, email **support@revolut.com** or ask Rita in chat to escalate to a human agent.
