The fastest way
To cancel Redis Cloud: delete every database first (Configuration → Danger Zone → Delete Database), clear outstanding invoices, then open Subscriptions → Overview → Cancel Subscription. Marketplace customers must also unsubscribe in the AWS or GCP console. No support email — file a ticket via the Redis Support Portal. Charges are non-refundable mid-cycle.
Or let yoink do it for you.

Cancellation Request — [your account email]Send this template
Hi Redis team, I'm writing to request the immediate cancellation of my subscription tied to this account, effective today. Under applicable consumer-protection law (UK Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, EU Directive 2011/83/EU, or the FTC's Click-to-Cancel rule depending on your jurisdiction), I'm entitled to terminate this continuous service contract through the same channel it was formed in — please confirm by reply that no further charges will be made. If your policy permits, I'd also appreciate a pro-rata refund for any unused portion of the current billing period. Best, [your name]
Wait for confirmation
Wait 24 hours. If there's no response, send a polite one-line follow-up referencing the original request.
Redis plans you can cancel
- Essentials Free (30 MB)$0.00/mo
Self-serve in Redis Cloud Console; delete the database to stop the subscription.
- Essentials$5.00/mo
Prepaid monthly, billed in advance. Cancel via Subscriptions → Overview → Cancel Subscription after deleting all databases.
- Pro$200.00/mo
Usage-based, billed in arrears (~$0.014/hour, $200/month minimum). Cancellation requires deleting all databases first.
- Flex$5.00/mo
Usage-based RAM:Flash tier. Delete databases then cancel subscription in console.
Redis’s refund policy
Redis treats most subscription charges as non-refundable, even if you cancel mid-cycle. The only pro-rata refund the Cloud Agreement promises is when you terminate because Redis fails to fix a material breach of the service. Outside of that, the docs and KB tell you to contact Support and explain the special circumstance — system errors or an accidental immediate start are the rare exceptions Support may honour. Service Credits issued under the SLA can only be applied to future invoices.
“Except specified in this Agreement, all payment obligations under a Transaction are non-cancelable and all payments made are non-refundable.”

What doesn’t work for cancelling Redis
Based on 2 sources — Reddit, app reviews, and direct testing. Skip these and save yourself the loop.
- ✕ Cancelling the subscription before deleting your databases — The Cancel Subscription button does not appear until every database under the subscription is deleted via Configuration → Danger Zone.
- ✕ Cancelling in the Redis Cloud Console when billing is routed through AWS or GCP Marketplace — Marketplace-linked accounts must be unsubscribed in the AWS Console (Marketplace → Manage Subscriptions) or GCP Console (Marketplace → Your Orders); cancelling only in Redis Cloud will not stop the charges.
- ✕ Removing your credit card to force a stop — Redis blocks payment-method removal until subscriptions are fully cancelled and balances cleared; outstanding invoices keep accruing and can restrict the account after 30 days.
- ✕ Requesting a refund for the unused part of the month — Redis explicitly states there are no retroactive refunds and most charges are non-refundable even when cancelled mid-cycle.
- ✕ Deleting the account directly without first cancelling subscriptions — Privacy/account-erasure requests are rejected or delayed if any databases, subscriptions, users, payment methods, or unpaid invoices remain.
How Redis will try to keep you
Redis may respond with a retention offer — a discount, a free month, or a downgrade to a cheaper tier. Don't engage with the counteroffer. Restate that you want a full cancellation and cite the consumer law again if they push back.
They’ll say: “Support points to 'special circumstances' for refunds without defining them”
You say: When you contact Support, frame the request as a 'special circumstance' the billing docs explicitly invite — accidental subscription start, a system/UI error, or a duplicate charge — and ask for written confirmation of the refund decision and timeline.
They’ll say: “Marketplace billing left running after Redis-side cancellation”
You say: If you originally subscribed via AWS or GCP Marketplace, screenshot the cancelled status in BOTH the Redis Cloud Console and the cloud provider's Marketplace console. If charges continue, escalate to Support with your AWS/GCP account ID, Redis Cloud account ID and the exact steps you took.
They’ll say: “Outstanding invoice block”
You say: Redis will not let you cancel while an invoice is unpaid. Settle the invoice (Pay Now in Billing & Payments), then immediately cancel — do not leave the account active 'until the next bill' or another cycle of usage charges will accrue.
They’ll say: “Data-loss anxiety used to keep you on the marketplace contract”
You say: Before disconnecting marketplace billing, add a fallback credit card so databases aren't auto-deleted in the grace window. Once safe, you can then cancel the subscription cleanly without the 'your data will be wiped' pressure.
They’ll say: “Privacy-deletion form bounces if anything is left behind”
You say: Run the full teardown sequence in order: delete databases → cancel subscriptions → remove non-owner users → clear payment methods → submit the Privacy Request Form. Skipping a step gets the request rejected and the account stays open.
Your rights when cancelling
Consumer law varies by where you live. The strongest hook for your country is the one to lead with when you contact the company — pick the one that applies and quote it in your email.
United States
- FTC Click-to-Cancel Rule (2024+)Cancel must be as easy as sign-up.
The Federal Trade Commission’s Click-to-Cancel rule requires Redis to make cancelling at least as simple as signing up — same channel, same number of clicks. If they buried the cancel button or forced a phone call, they’re in violation; report to reportfraud.ftc.gov.
- California ARL (auto-renewal law)Renewal must be cancellable online.
California Business & Professions Code §17602 forces any company billing California residents on auto-renewal to provide an online cancel mechanism. Lawsuits have been won on this; companies often refund quickly when it’s cited.
- Restore Online Shoppers’ Confidence Act (ROSCA)Negative-option billing must be clearly disclosed.
Federal law (15 U.S.C. §8401) requires Redis to clearly disclose any negative-option / auto-renewal terms before charging. Buried terms = potential federal violation. Report to the FTC alongside any FTC complaint.
United Kingdom
- Consumer Contracts Regulations 201314-day cooling-off on new subscriptions.
You can terminate any continuous service contract within 14 days of starting it and recover any payment, no questions asked. Applies regardless of Redis’s own policy.
- Consumer Rights Act 2015Services must be as described.
If Redis’s service was misrepresented or didn’t deliver what was promised, you have a statutory right to remedy (repair, refund, or price reduction) regardless of their terms.
European Union
- Consumer Rights Directive 2011/83/EU14-day right of withdrawal across all EU states.
EU-wide statutory right to withdraw from any distance-sold contract within 14 days. Mirrored into local law in every member state. Redis must honour it regardless of where they’re headquartered.
- Digital Content Directive (EU) 2019/770Refund rights for digital content failures.
Specific to digital subscriptions — gives you the right to a price reduction or contract termination when Redis’s digital service is not as advertised, with no time limit beyond the contract period.
Worldwide
- Card-issuer chargebackYour bank can reverse the charge.
Visa, Mastercard, and Amex all run chargeback schemes — “goods/services not as described” or “subscription not cancelled” are valid reason codes everywhere they operate. Your bank handles the dispute; Redis has ~45 days to defend.
Common questions about cancelling Redis
Sign in to the Redis Cloud Console as the Account Owner. Open each database under the subscription, go to **Configuration → Danger Zone → Delete Database**. Once the subscription shows zero databases, go to **Subscriptions → select the subscription → Overview tab → Cancel Subscription** and confirm in the dialog. If billing runs through AWS or GCP Marketplace, you also need to unsubscribe in that provider's marketplace console — the Redis-side cancellation alone won't stop charges.
