Pirate Ship plans you can cancel
- Free (pay-as-you-go postage)$0.00/mo
No subscription, monthly fee or contract. You pay only for each USPS/UPS label you buy. Closing the account means asking Support (live chat or email) to delete it. There is no self-serve delete button.
What happens to what you’ve already paid
Pirate Ship has no subscription, so these refund rules only cover postage labels and your Account Balance. Unused USPS and UPS labels can be refunded within 28 days with the red Refund Label button. Labels you never printed are refunded instantly by USPS. Printed USPS labels usually take about two weeks to be approved (up to about 30 days), and UPS labels take about an hour. Any approved refund lands in your Pirate Ship Account Balance, not on your card. To get cash back, click 'Refund Credit' on the Reports page. It takes 3-7 business days. Carrier adjustment charges after shipping are a separate thing: you dispute them per shipment with the 'Dispute this adjustment' link.
“You must request a refund within 28 days of buying the label, but Pirate Ship will automatically request refunds for unused labels if you forget”

Does Pirate Ship charge a cancellation fee?
Pirate Ship’s terms mention conditions worth checking before you cancel, see the plan notes and policy quote above for the specifics we found. In general: rolling monthly plans end at the period you’ve already paid for with nothing extra to pay, while minimum-term or contract plans can carry an early-exit charge until the term ends.
What doesn’t work for cancelling Pirate Ship
Based on 5 sources, Reddit, app reviews, and direct testing. Skip these and save yourself the loop.
- ✕ Calling Pirate Ship by phone (the 1-844-445-5854 number listed on directory sites), Pirate Ship's help center says it doesn't offer phone support. Complaint directories report the toll-free line is an automated system with no option to reach a person. Use live chat or support@pirateship.com.
- ✕ Looking for a 'cancel subscription' or 'delete account' button in Settings, There's no subscription to cancel. To delete the account you have to ask Support. The privacy policy says to log in and submit a deletion request through Support chat.
- ✕ Requesting a label refund after 28 days or after the carrier has scanned the package, The Refund Label button disappears once the ship date is more than 28 days old, or once USPS/UPS has accepted the package. Scanned labels count as used.
- ✕ Using a label after you've refunded it (or after it was auto-refunded), Carriers treat refunded labels as invalid postage. USPS may dispose of the package, and UPS sends it to an Overgoods facility. You have to buy a new label.
- ✕ Waiting for a label refund to show up on your card automatically, Approved refunds go to your Pirate Ship Account Balance by default and get used up on your next label. You have to click 'Refund Credit' to move the money back to your card or bank.
- ✕ Asking Support to send your balance refund to PayPal for you, The help center says the crew can't manually push Account Balance refunds to PayPal. Use the self-serve Refund Credit option instead.
- ✕ Attaching photos to an adjustment dispute, Sellers on the Etsy community forum say Pirate Ship's dispute form no longer accepts photos, only a short written explanation that gets passed to USPS.
Cancelled Pirate Ship but still being charged?
Three common reasons, in order of likelihood:
- The cancellation didn’t actually complete. If you never received a written confirmation from Pirate Ship, treat it as not cancelled. Email
support@pirateship.comreferencing your original request date and ask for written confirmation plus a refund of any charge taken since. - You cancelled in the wrong place. Subscriptions started through the App Store or Google Play bill through Apple or Google, cancelling on Pirate Ship’s site doesn’t touch them. Check Settings → Subscriptions on iPhone, or Play Store → Payments & subscriptions on Android.
- You're inside a minimum term. Some Pirate Ship plans keep charging until a fixed term ends even after you cancel, check the plan notes above.
If they keep charging after a confirmed cancellation, that’s chargeback territory: dispute the charge with your bank citing “subscription cancelled, merchant continued billing”. The yoink app also flags this automatically, it keeps watching your inbox after a confirmed cancellation and alerts you if Pirate Ship charges again.
How Pirate Ship will try to keep you
Pirate Ship may respond with a retention offer, a discount, a free month, or a downgrade to a cheaper tier. Don't engage with the counteroffer. Restate that you want a full cancellation and cite the consumer law again if they push back.
They’ll say: “Refunds default to Account Balance credit, not your card, so the money quietly goes toward your next label (eBay community users and Pirate Ship's own help docs confirm this).”
You say: Once the refund shows in your Account Balance, open the Reports page and click 'Refund Credit'. You can send it to any card or bank you've spent at least that much with on Pirate Ship. It usually arrives in 3-7 business days.
They’ll say: “Carrier adjustment charges are taken from your card weeks after shipping, without asking you first. When users complain, Support points to the user agreement and says the adjustment came 'from the carrier, not Pirate Ship' (eBay community and BBB complaints).”
You say: Open the shipment in Pirate Ship, click 'Dispute this adjustment', and state the real weight, dimensions and packaging. Users report credits within about a week when USPS agrees. Keep your label receipt and package measurements as proof.
They’ll say: “There's no phone support and no self-serve delete, so closing the account means getting Support to act (help center plus privacy policy).”
You say: Send a written deletion request to support@pirateship.com from your login email, citing the privacy policy's right-to-delete section. Also send it through logged-in chat so there's a record. Ask them to confirm the deletion and any remaining Account Balance.
They’ll say: “Support doesn't respond to some account or label disputes (BBB complaint about being ignored on both accounts and by email).”
You say: Put your request in writing to support@pirateship.com with tracking numbers and dates. Copy legal@pirateship.com for formal notices. Ask for a written answer within 14 days. If a charge for an undelivered or wrongly adjusted label still isn't fixed, your card issuer's dispute process is the last resort.
Your rights when cancelling
The law where you live is the strongest hook, lead with it when you contact the company.
Worldwide
- Card-issuer chargebackYour bank can reverse the charge.
Visa, Mastercard, and Amex all run chargeback schemes, “goods/services not as described” or “subscription not cancelled” are valid reason codes everywhere they operate. Your bank handles the dispute; Pirate Ship has ~45 days to defend.
Delete your Pirate Ship account (not just cancel)
Cancelling stops the billing; deleting removes your account and personal data. Do them in that order, deleting an account with an active subscription can leave the billing running with no way to log in and stop it.
If there’s no delete option in Pirate Ship’s account settings, email support@pirateship.com with the subject Account deletion request, [your account email] and ask for your account and personal data to be erased under state privacy laws such as the CCPA. They’re typically required to act on it, most companies complete erasure within about 30 days, and you should ask for written confirmation when it’s done.
Common questions about cancelling Pirate Ship
There's nothing to cancel: Pirate Ship is **100% free**, with no subscription, monthly fee or contract. You only pay for the labels you buy. If you want the account **deleted** so you can't log in anymore, ask Support. Log in and use the live chat, or email **support@pirateship.com** from the address on your account. Before asking, cash out any money left in your Account Balance with *Reports → Refund Credit*, and refund any unused labels, so nothing is left behind.
