What happens to what you’ve already paid
Products sold by B&Q (in store, Click + Collect or delivered) can be returned within 90 days in their original condition. Bring proof of purchase and the original payment card. Refunds go back to that card within 14 days of the return, or within 14 days of cancelling if the order hasn't been sent yet. You can cancel delivered orders up to 24 hours before delivery. If you cancel only part of an order, B&Q may recalculate the delivery charge and take it off your refund. Store returns are free, but home collection can cost up to £50. Made-to-measure, cut-to-size and mixed-paint products can't be returned unless they're faulty. Products 'sold and shipped' by verified marketplace sellers go back through the seller's Contact Seller link. Kitchen, bathroom and other supply-and-install orders have a separate 14-day cancellation right in the terms.
“If you change your mind, you can return your B&Q purchase to us, in its original condition, within 90 days - just bring your receipt, order confirmation or sales invoice with you.”

Does B&Q charge a cancellation fee?
We found no cancellation fee in B&Q’s published terms. On a rolling plan you simply pay to the end of the current billing period and nothing after. If you’re inside a fixed minimum term, check your signup email for the end date, cancelling early is where fees usually hide. If you signed up online within the last 14 days, the Consumer Contracts Regulations give you a cooling-off right to walk away, fee-free, for most digital subscriptions.
What doesn’t work for cancelling B&Q
Based on 6 sources, Reddit, app reviews, and direct testing. Skip these and save yourself the loop.
- ✕ Asking B&Q to cancel a Click + Collect order, B&Q's help page says it can't cancel Click + Collect orders. Just don't collect: after 7 days the order goes back automatically and is refunded.
- ✕ Cancelling a B&Q-shipped delivery within 24 hours of its delivery date, B&Q says it can't change or cancel a delivery due in the next 24 hours. Let it arrive (or refuse it), then use the returns process.
- ✕ Relying on B&Q's phone line to cancel a verified-seller (marketplace) order, A MoneySavingExpert user said B&Q staff only emailed the seller asking them to call back, and the seller ignored cancellation messages until it was 'too late'. Cancel in writing through the Contact Seller link and keep a dated copy.
- ✕ Returning cut-to-size, made-to-measure or mixed paint products because you changed your mind, B&Q excludes customised products from change-of-mind refunds. Only faulty or not-as-described items can be repaired, replaced or refunded.
- ✕ Expecting a home collection to be free, B&Q says home collection of online orders may cost up to £50. Returning to any store costs nothing.
Cancelled B&Q but still being charged?
Three common reasons, in order of likelihood:
- The cancellation didn’t actually complete. If you never received a written confirmation from B&Q, treat it as not cancelled. Email
home.delivery@b-and-q.co.ukreferencing your original request date and ask for written confirmation plus a refund of any charge taken since. - You cancelled in the wrong place. Subscriptions started through the App Store or Google Play bill through Apple or Google, cancelling on B&Q’s site doesn’t touch them. Check Settings → Subscriptions on iPhone, or Play Store → Payments & subscriptions on Android.
- Billing lag. A charge that was already in flight when you cancelled can still land a few days later. One trailing charge can be normal; two is not.
If they keep charging after a confirmed cancellation, that’s chargeback territory: dispute the charge with your bank citing “subscription cancelled, merchant continued billing”. The yoink app also flags this automatically, it keeps watching your inbox after a confirmed cancellation and alerts you if B&Q charges again.
How B&Q will try to keep you
B&Q may respond with a retention offer, a discount, a free month, or a downgrade to a cheaper tier. Don't engage with the counteroffer. Restate that you want a full cancellation and cite the consumer law again if they push back.
They’ll say: “A verified seller says it's 'too late to cancel, the order is being shipped'”
You say: For distance sales you can still cancel after delivery and return the item within the cooling-off period. Send your cancellation in writing (Contact Seller link plus home.delivery@b-and-q.co.uk) so the date is on record. A seller shipping the order doesn't remove your right to cancel.
They’ll say: “Missed collection windows that drag out a return (Mumsnet: two 48 to 72 hour windows missed)”
You say: Date every message. Email a firm deadline for collection, say your return request was made inside the window, and say you'll start a small-claims refund if they don't confirm. They can't later say the return window has closed.
They’ll say: “A refund or settlement paid to a B&Q credit account instead of cash (MSE kitchen thread)”
You say: B&Q's refund FAQ says refunds go to your original payment method. Ask in writing for the money to go back to the card or finance agreement you paid with, not store credit.
They’ll say: “A gift-card order cancelled, then you're told to collect a credit note in store (Trustpilot)”
You say: Ask for the gift-card balance to be put back so you can spend it online. If B&Q cancelled the order, you shouldn't have to make a trip to get your own money back.
They’ll say: “Head-office complaints get sent back to the store (MSE)”
You say: If the store and Customer Services haven't fixed it, escalate in writing to ExecutiveCustomerCareTeam@b-and-q.co.uk with your order number and a timeline. One forum user got a reply within 2 hours after weeks of delay.
They’ll say: “Charging up to £50 for home collection”
You say: For faulty or wrong items, B&Q's returns page says it will offer a repair, replacement or refund. Push for free collection on faulty goods, or take change-of-mind returns to any store for free.
Your rights when cancelling
The law where you live is the strongest hook, lead with it when you contact the company.
United Kingdom
- Consumer Contracts Regulations 201314-day cooling-off on new subscriptions.
You can terminate any continuous service contract within 14 days of starting it and recover any payment, no questions asked. Applies regardless of B&Q’s own policy.
- Consumer Rights Act 2015Services must be as described.
If B&Q’s service was misrepresented or didn’t deliver what was promised, you have a statutory right to remedy (repair, refund, or price reduction) regardless of their terms.
Worldwide
- Card-issuer chargebackYour bank can reverse the charge.
Visa, Mastercard, and Amex all run chargeback schemes, “goods/services not as described” or “subscription not cancelled” are valid reason codes everywhere they operate. Your bank handles the dispute; B&Q has ~45 days to defend.
Rights in other regions (European Union)
European Union
- Consumer Rights Directive 2011/83/EU14-day right of withdrawal across all EU states.
EU-wide statutory right to withdraw from any distance-sold contract within 14 days. Mirrored into local law in every member state. B&Q must honour it regardless of where they’re headquartered.
Delete your B&Q account (not just cancel)
Cancelling stops the billing; deleting removes your account and personal data. Do them in that order, deleting an account with an active subscription can leave the billing running with no way to log in and stop it.
If there’s no delete option in B&Q’s account settings, email home.delivery@b-and-q.co.uk with the subject Account deletion request, [your account email] and ask for your account and personal data to be erased under UK GDPR (Article 17, the right to erasure). They’re typically required to act on it, most companies complete erasure within about 30 days, and you should ask for written confirmation when it’s done.
Common questions about cancelling B&Q
Yes, for products **sold and shipped by B&Q**, as long as delivery is more than 24 hours away. Call **0333 014 3357** or use Live Chat on the Customer Support pages. To get a paper trail, also email **home.delivery@b-and-q.co.uk** with your order number, name and delivery address. If delivery is due within 24 hours, B&Q won't change the order, so let it arrive and use the returns process. You'll get your refund within 14 days of telling them, as long as the goods haven't been sent.
Money-back questions (windows, pro-rata, chargebacks) are covered in the B&Q refund guide. Need a human for something else entirely? The B&Q contact guide lists every channel that actually answers.
