Argos plans you can cancel
- Argos Card / Monthly Payment Plan
Argos Card is a credit account, not a subscription. The help centre warns customers not to cancel the Direct Debit when disputing or returning an item.
- Argos Care (extended warranty)
Cancellable; refund processed back to the original payment method or Argos Card.
Argos’s refund policy
Argos gives a 30-day change-of-mind window on top of the 14-day statutory cancellation right under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. Refunds are triggered immediately on cancellation or in-store return, but banks can take up to 5 working days (PayPal up to 30 days, Klarna up to 14). Large items returned post-delivery may incur a £30 collection fee unless faulty. Digital downloads, opened hygiene items and Sainsbury's collection-point orders are excluded.
“In addition to our 30-day Standard Returns Policy, for most goods bought online, including click & collect orders, you have the statutory right to cancel your order for any reason within 14 days beginning with the day after you (or your nominee) receive the item.”

Does Argos charge a cancellation fee?
We found no cancellation fee in Argos’s published terms. On a rolling plan you simply pay to the end of the current billing period and nothing after. If you’re inside a fixed minimum term, check your signup email for the end date, cancelling early is where fees usually hide. If you signed up online within the last 14 days, the Consumer Contracts Regulations give you a cooling-off right to walk away, fee-free, for most digital subscriptions.
What doesn’t work for cancelling Argos
Based on 2 sources, Reddit, app reviews, and direct testing. Skip these and save yourself the loop.
- ✕ Cancelling a Sainsbury's collection-point order online, Argos help centre states it is not currently possible, you must collect and return, or let the order expire.
- ✕ Cancelling digital download orders, Argos refuses cancellations/returns once a digital download order is placed due to fast processing.
- ✕ Calling 0345 640 2020 expecting a human, Reviewers report the line routes to automated IVR with poor English-comprehension and long waits.
- ✕ Emailing the CEO's personal inbox, Forum users report writing to the CEO directly produced no acknowledgement; Customer Relations is the working route.
- ✕ Cancelling your Argos Card Direct Debit to force a refund, Argos help explicitly warns 'Please don't cancel your Direct Debit', it damages credit and doesn't trigger a refund.
Cancelled Argos but still being charged?
Three common reasons, in order of likelihood:
- The cancellation didn’t actually complete. If you never received a written confirmation from Argos, treat it as not cancelled. Email
order.enquiries@argos.co.ukreferencing your original request date and ask for written confirmation plus a refund of any charge taken since. - You cancelled in the wrong place. Subscriptions started through the App Store or Google Play bill through Apple or Google, cancelling on Argos’s site doesn’t touch them. Check Settings → Subscriptions on iPhone, or Play Store → Payments & subscriptions on Android.
- Billing lag. A charge that was already in flight when you cancelled can still land a few days later. One trailing charge can be normal; two is not.
If they keep charging after a confirmed cancellation, that’s chargeback territory: dispute the charge with your bank citing “subscription cancelled, merchant continued billing”. The yoink app also flags this automatically, it keeps watching your inbox after a confirmed cancellation and alerts you if Argos charges again.
How Argos will try to keep you
Argos may respond with a retention offer, a discount, a free month, or a downgrade to a cheaper tier. Don't engage with the counteroffer. Restate that you want a full cancellation and cite the consumer law again if they push back.
They’ll say: “Agent ends Live Chat mid-conversation, forcing customer to re-queue”
You say: Screenshot the chat transcript and timestamp before it closes. Re-open chat, paste the transcript, and quote Consumer Rights Act 2015 s.49 (reasonable care and skill). If ignored a second time, escalate by email to Customer.Relations@argos.co.uk citing both failed chats.
They’ll say: “Store staff refuse a faulty-item refund within the 30-day window”
You say: Cite the Consumer Rights Act 2015 short-term right to reject (30 days from delivery). Ask for the store manager, then escalate in writing to Customer.Relations@argos.co.uk with the receipt, photos, and a 14-day deadline before Section 75 / chargeback.
They’ll say: “£30 large-item collection charge applied to a change-of-mind return”
You say: Argos's own T&Cs waive the £30 fee where the item is faulty. If the item is unfaulty, request a return to a participating store instead, store returns are free.
They’ll say: “Refund 'pending' beyond the stated 5 working days”
You say: Push back at day 6 quoting the help-centre line that refunds are 'triggered immediately' and request a refund reference. If unresolved, open a Section 75 claim with your card issuer (orders over £100) or a chargeback.
They’ll say: “Executive office denies responsibility for a faulty product after one email”
You say: Trustpilot shows execs 'Andrew H.' and 'Lee H.' deflecting on faulty bike claims. Reply once with independent inspection evidence and a 14-day deadline, then file with the Retail ADR scheme or Resolver, don't let one rejection close the file.
Your rights when cancelling
The law where you live is the strongest hook, lead with it when you contact the company.
United Kingdom
- Consumer Contracts Regulations 201314-day cooling-off on new subscriptions.
You can terminate any continuous service contract within 14 days of starting it and recover any payment, no questions asked. Applies regardless of Argos’s own policy.
- Consumer Rights Act 2015Services must be as described.
If Argos’s service was misrepresented or didn’t deliver what was promised, you have a statutory right to remedy (repair, refund, or price reduction) regardless of their terms.
Worldwide
- Card-issuer chargebackYour bank can reverse the charge.
Visa, Mastercard, and Amex all run chargeback schemes, “goods/services not as described” or “subscription not cancelled” are valid reason codes everywhere they operate. Your bank handles the dispute; Argos has ~45 days to defend.
Delete your Argos account (not just cancel)
Cancelling stops the billing; deleting removes your account and personal data. Do them in that order, deleting an account with an active subscription can leave the billing running with no way to log in and stop it.
If there’s no delete option in Argos’s account settings, email order.enquiries@argos.co.uk with the subject Account deletion request, [your account email] and ask for your account and personal data to be erased under UK GDPR (Article 17, the right to erasure). They’re typically required to act on it, most companies complete erasure within about 30 days, and you should ask for written confirmation when it’s done.
Common questions about cancelling Argos
Sign in at argos.co.uk, open **Your Account → Recent Orders**, click **View Order Details** on the order, then hit **Cancel Order**. On the Argos app the same option appears as **Cancel My Order** at the bottom of the order in your order history. If the button isn't visible the order is already in fulfilment, use Live Chat to request cancellation before dispatch, or refuse the parcel at the door and Argos will refund once it's back in the warehouse.
Money-back questions (windows, pro-rata, chargebacks) are covered in the Argos refund guide. Need a human for something else entirely? The Argos contact guide lists every channel that actually answers.
