The fastest way
Aesop is a one-off skincare purchase, not a subscription. To cancel an order, use your account's Order Status within 30 minutes of placing it. Past that, wait for delivery and return unopened items within 30 days (14 in EU) via the online returns portal. Email uk.online@aesop.com or aesop.usonline@aesop.com, subject: 'Order cancellation / return request — [order number]'. Refunds land within ~14 business days.
Or let yoink do it for you.

Cancellation Request — [your account email]Send this template
Hi Aesop team, I'm writing to request the immediate cancellation of my subscription tied to this account, effective today. Under applicable consumer-protection law (UK Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, EU Directive 2011/83/EU, or the FTC's Click-to-Cancel rule depending on your jurisdiction), I'm entitled to terminate this continuous service contract through the same channel it was formed in — please confirm by reply that no further charges will be made. If your policy permits, I'd also appreciate a pro-rata refund for any unused portion of the current billing period. Best, [your name]

Aesop plans you can cancel
- One-off online order
Aesop does not sell subscriptions. Orders can be cancelled within 30 minutes of placement via account Order Status; after that, treat as a return.
Aesop’s refund policy
Aesop lets you self-cancel an online order for 30 minutes after checkout via Order Status. After that it ships and you have to return it: 30 days from purchase for US/UK online orders (14 days in the EU), unopened and in original condition. Refunds go back to the original payment method and take up to 14 business days after Aesop receives the parcel. Final-sale items, engraved bottles, promotional gifts and e-gift cards are not refundable, and kits/bundles must be returned in full.
“Once you submit your order on Aesop, you can cancel your order within 30 minutes by visiting your account's Order Status. For orders that are past the cancellation window, you can find additional details on how to return by referring to our Return Policy here.”

What doesn’t work for cancelling Aesop
Based on 2 sources — Reddit, app reviews, and direct testing. Skip these and save yourself the loop.
- ✕ Cancelling an order more than 30 minutes after checkout — Aesop's self-service cancel window is only 30 minutes; after that the order is locked and you must wait to return it.
- ✕ Returning an in-store purchase via the online portal — Aesop signature-store and department-store purchases must be returned to their original point of purchase, not through aesop.com.
- ✕ Refunding a PayPal, Klarna, WeChat Pay or Apple Pay order in a physical store — Aesop cannot process refunds for these payment methods in-store; you must return through the online portal.
- ✕ Cross-border refunds — Aesop won't refund a product bought in a different country to the one you're returning it in — only in-store exchange for equal/greater value.
- ✕ Refunding opened or used product — Refunds require items to be unopened and in original condition (adverse-reaction cases are handled separately by CS).
- ✕ Individual returns from a kit or bundle — Kits and bundles must be returned in their entirety; single items inside a set are not refundable separately.
How Aesop will try to keep you
Aesop may respond with a retention offer — a discount, a free month, or a downgrade to a cheaper tier. Don't engage with the counteroffer. Restate that you want a full cancellation and cite the consumer law again if they push back.
They’ll say: “CS suggests an in-store exchange instead of a refund”
You say: Politely decline — Aesop's own policy confirms online purchases paid by card, PayPal, Klarna or Apple Pay are eligible for a refund to the original payment method via the online portal. Ask for the prepaid returns label.
They’ll say: “'Try a sample of an alternative product first'”
You say: Complimentary samples sit outside the formal return policy and do not extend or replace the 30-day window. Request the refund now and evaluate samples separately.
They’ll say: “Delay past the 30-day window with slow email replies”
You say: Under UK Consumer Contracts Regulations / EU Consumer Rights Directive you have 14 days from delivery to withdraw regardless of Aesop's policy. Cite it and escalate to a chargeback via your card issuer (Section 75 in the UK) if the window is missed because Aesop delayed the label.
They’ll say: “Offering store credit / gift card instead of card refund”
You say: For card, PayPal, Afterpay and Apple Pay orders Aesop's stated policy is refund to the original method of payment. Store credit is only the default for gift-card-funded or gift-receipt purchases — insist on original-method refund.
Your rights when cancelling
Consumer law varies by where you live. The strongest hook for your country is the one to lead with when you contact the company — pick the one that applies and quote it in your email.
United States
- FTC Click-to-Cancel Rule (2024+)Cancel must be as easy as sign-up.
The Federal Trade Commission’s Click-to-Cancel rule requires Aesop to make cancelling at least as simple as signing up — same channel, same number of clicks. If they buried the cancel button or forced a phone call, they’re in violation; report to reportfraud.ftc.gov.
- California ARL (auto-renewal law)Renewal must be cancellable online.
California Business & Professions Code §17602 forces any company billing California residents on auto-renewal to provide an online cancel mechanism. Lawsuits have been won on this; companies often refund quickly when it’s cited.
- Restore Online Shoppers’ Confidence Act (ROSCA)Negative-option billing must be clearly disclosed.
Federal law (15 U.S.C. §8401) requires Aesop to clearly disclose any negative-option / auto-renewal terms before charging. Buried terms = potential federal violation. Report to the FTC alongside any FTC complaint.
United Kingdom
- Consumer Contracts Regulations 201314-day cooling-off on new subscriptions.
You can terminate any continuous service contract within 14 days of starting it and recover any payment, no questions asked. Applies regardless of Aesop’s own policy.
- Consumer Rights Act 2015Services must be as described.
If Aesop’s service was misrepresented or didn’t deliver what was promised, you have a statutory right to remedy (repair, refund, or price reduction) regardless of their terms.
European Union
- Consumer Rights Directive 2011/83/EU14-day right of withdrawal across all EU states.
EU-wide statutory right to withdraw from any distance-sold contract within 14 days. Mirrored into local law in every member state. Aesop must honour it regardless of where they’re headquartered.
- Digital Content Directive (EU) 2019/770Refund rights for digital content failures.
Specific to digital subscriptions — gives you the right to a price reduction or contract termination when Aesop’s digital service is not as advertised, with no time limit beyond the contract period.
Worldwide
- Card-issuer chargebackYour bank can reverse the charge.
Visa, Mastercard, and Amex all run chargeback schemes — “goods/services not as described” or “subscription not cancelled” are valid reason codes everywhere they operate. Your bank handles the dispute; Aesop has ~45 days to defend.
Common questions about cancelling Aesop
Yes, but only within a 30-minute window. Aesop lets you cancel through **Order Status** in your account for the first 30 minutes after checkout. Once that window closes the order is committed to fulfilment and you'll need to wait for it to arrive, then start a return through the online portal. Contact aesop.usonline@aesop.com (US) or uk.online@aesop.com (UK) immediately if you miss the self-service window — CS occasionally still catches orders that haven't been picked from the warehouse.
