REFUND GUIDE

How to Get a Virgin Media Refund Faster.

Inside 14 days their own policy is on your side; statutory cooling-off rights may stack on top. Outside it, you've still got tools, a clear email, a card-issuer chargeback, the lot. Here's the playbook for Virgin Media.

The short answer

Virgin Media has no upfront money-back guarantee, but you get a statutory 14-day cooling-off right on any new contract taken out by phone, online or at your door. Any credit left after disconnection is refunded, but Virgin issues it as a cheque posted up to 30 days after your final bill. In practice customers report waits of 42 to 45 days, and you generally can't request a bank transfer until 45 days after disconnection. Keep your address up to date, and you have six months to cash the cheque.

Or let yoink chase the refund.

What Virgin Media actually says

Once your services have been disconnected, our system will tot up any bills and credits that are left over, and give you a final bill. This is produced up to 30 days after your disconnection... If it turns out you’ve got some credit on your account, we’ll pop that amount on a cheque and send it to you in the post.

How long does a Virgin Media refund take?

Most merchants agree to a straightforward refund within 1 to 3 working days of a well-written email request. Once agreed, the money itself takes another 3 to 5 working days to land, that part is card-network processing and no merchant can skip it. If nothing has arrived 10 working days after a written “refund approved”, reply on the same thread asking for the ARN (acquirer reference number), which your bank can trace.

Note Virgin Media’s own policy works on a 14-day window, ask inside it and the request is routine; outside it you’re relying on goodwill or statutory rights.

Refund FAQ for Virgin Media

There's no fee if you cancel after your minimum term or within the 14-day cooling-off period on a new contract. If you leave mid-contract you'll usually pay an **early disconnection fee**, roughly your monthly cost (or a percentage of it) multiplied by the months remaining. Fees can be waived if you're moving somewhere Virgin doesn't serve, if speeds fall below the Ofcom minimum they can't fix, or if they raise your price mid-contract. Ask for a written breakdown.
